The Complete History of Middle-Earth | Christopher Tolkien

On 18 July 2017, tens of us started an adventure, but only 5 kept going: @Daisey @wordslinger42 @BookwormAHN @Riveted_Reader_Melissa and myself.
Together, we crossed the gates of Morning and entered the Undying Lands to learn about the Valar. We cheered Beren and Luthien as they fought Morgoth, fled Numenor with Elendil and finally came to Middle-earth and its Rings.

I'll forever remember that journey,ladies!

Riveted_Reader_Melissa What great memories! Both the stories and reading with you ladies. Who would have guessed that a fun adventure would lead us through all 12 Histories of Middle Earth. Bilbo was right, you do need to be careful stepping out your door, who knows where the road might take you. 😉 1y

And so it's over 🥺
With this book, we complete the History of Middle-earth. I feel accomished, but also sad that the journey it's over. It was more then two years, and such an awarding, enriching journey. I enjoy every word.

But l hope my fellow travellers of Middle-earth will want to go on, on more andventures 😜

wordslinger42 I still haven't finished! I feel so bad that I couldn't keep up with the schedule. I'll definitely be reading lots of Tolkien this fall once I start grad school! And I'm always happy to do readalongs with you ladies 😊 4y

Daisey @wordslinger42 Congratulations on grad school. Somehow I missed that announcement. The Tolkien Society of KC works with Signum quite a bit so I‘ve heard a few of their professors as speakers. Enjoy! 4y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘m reading Narnia at the moment (the other Inkling), but that should be finished in July. I have a few ready & waiting when we are ready.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers You could definitely catch up, they are reading a chapter a day, with about a week in between books, I‘m just sitting down and reading the whole book over a weekend, they are much shorter than Tolkien‘s and you‘d be able to jump in and catch-up pretty easily. I‘m on book 3 now. (Oh, and we are reading them in Publication Order) 4y

I finished it tonight, right after the year started.
Gals, can you imagine that only one volume of HoME remains to be read? I can't believe it 😱
I'm ready to go whenever. In the meanwhile, l'm doing some catching up 😆

Yesterday, my 17 yo old decided to binge watch Peter Jackson‘s Lord of the Rings movies - extended version. I‘ve been wanting to read The History of Middle Earth, so I suggested that he should read it too. He agreed as he‘s been watching YouTube videos about Middle Earth and the background of Tolkien‘s LOTR. So I bought the trade paper versions yesterday. Has anyone else read these? If so, what are your thoughts?

LibrarianJen The only book I‘ve read outside of the trilogy and the hobbit is the adventures of Tom Bombadil, which I absolutely loved. 5y

BarbaraJean I‘ve never read the History of Middle Earth (someday maybe!), but I think @JazzFeathers and the #YearOfTolkien crew read it a little while back! You might check out that hashtag or #LOTRHistory I think as well. 5y

rretzler @JazzFeathers Thanks for the invite, I would love to join but I was deluged with 4 holds from the library plus 3 group reads I need to get through this month. I would love to follow along with the groups posts, but I may not start to read the books until next year, at this point. I‘ll probably let my son read them first. 5y

shanaqui I used a couple of them as sources when I was writing my MA essays on LOTR! There's a lot of interesting background in there. 5y
