Suspenseful sci-fi with complex world-building and a tough-as-nails heroine youll want to root for! Elizabeth Briggs, New York Times Bestselling Author of Future Shock In this bleak world, one spark of hope soon turns into an inferno. And just like a fireball, once this story is ignited, it just doesnt stop. Maria V. Snyder, New York Times bestselling author of Navigating the Stars. From USA Today Bestselling Author Aileen Erin In an all-too-plausible future where corporate conglomerates have left the worlds governments in shambles, anyone with means has left the polluted Earth for the promise of a better life on a SpaceTech owned colony among the stars. Mait Martinez is the daughter of an Earther Latina and a powerful Aunare man, an alien race that SpaceTech sees as a threat to their dominion. When tensions turn violent, Mait finds herself trapped on Earth and forced into hiding. For over ten years, Mait has stayed hidden, but every minute Mait stays on Earth is one closer to getting caught. Shes lived on the streets. Gone hungry. And found a way to fight through it all. But one night, while waitressing in a greasy diner, a customer gets handsy with her. She reacts without thinking. Covered in blood, Mait runs, but its not long before SpaceTech finds her... Arrested and forced into dangerous work detail on a volcano planet, Mait waits for SpaceTech to make their move against the Aunare. She knows that if she cant somehow find a way to stop them, there will be an interstellar war big enough to end all life in the universe. Theres only one question: Can Mait prevent the total annihilation of humanity without getting herself killed in the process? Erins world-building is excellent and her characters are big and bold... I am posting one book per day from my to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new - don‘t judge me I have a lot of books.
Join the fun if you want. This is day 194.

This review is actually for the sequel to the tagged book (not in the system yet), Off Balance. Overall an enjoyable read, altho' the MC did seem self-absorbed at times. Totally in love w/ the love interest, though, & SUPER glad there was no love triangle! A 3.5* read - if you liked the first book, you'll like this one. A lil slow in spots but overall a decent lite sci-fi.
Sitting at just shy of 5hrs for #JumpStart2020, so way ahead of schedule!

TheAromaofBooks This was an ARC provided by the publisher, Ink Monster, that I received for free, which didn't impact my review. 4y

If you like your sci-fi on the lite side, this could be for you. It has a fun dystopian plot, with the MC as a half-alien on an Earth that has decided that all Aunare must die. The middle does drag a little bit, but overall I enjoyed rereading this one in preparation for reading the ARC of the sequel that I just received. ⬇

TheAromaofBooks Finishing the last couple chapters of this book this morning puts me at 19mins for #JumpStart2020 My goal is two hours a day and a total of 15 books, so we will see what happens!! @Clwojick @LizPixie (edited) 4y
TheAromaofBooks In order to complete even some of the challenges I'm trying this year, I need a lot of double-dipping!! This one is going to count for O in #LitsyAtoZ and also New Mexico for #ReadtheUSA2020 I was hoping she would be a millennial author as well, but I can't seem to find her age around the interwebs, so oh well. @bookishmarginalia - do you want to be tagged for all of the AtoZ posts? 4y

1. My sister came over, & she, my husband, & I played games, got slightly tipsy, & watched some episodes of The IT Crowd.
2. I don't have a hard number, usually 25ish books/month.
3. Two words this year - healing & joy. A lot of very crappy stuff happened last year & some is still ongoing. I can't always control my circumstances, but I can control how I respond. Time to let go of some things so healing can start & face the new year with joy!

wanderinglynn For no. 3, that‘s a fantastic response. 💚💙 I wish you much healing & joy in the new year. ❤️ 4y
MoonWitch94 3️⃣ is very powerful. It is the best thing you can do for yourself. I hope 2020 brings you joy, peace & laughter (the best medicine). Thanks for playing 🎉💙🎆♥️ 4y

TheAromaofBooks @wanderinglynn @MoonWitch94 @Cupcake12 - Thank you! It's easy for me to get into negative thought patterns, but objectively I have far more good things/blessings in my life than bad, and I want to practice focusing on those. 4y
ljuliel I liked your number 3. A very important lesson , which I need to work on. I wish you great success. ♥️ 4y

My final time for #24b42020 - so close to my goal of 15hrs!! But my sister came over last night to ring in the new year, and we spent the final hours of 2019 playing games and introducing my husband to The IT Crowd. 😁 Great evening and great readathon. Thanks for hosting @Andrew65 @jb72 @TheReadingMermaid

Andrew65 Great time, well done. 👏👏👏🙌🥳🍾🎯😍🎆 Happy New Year. 4y

There was plenty of suspense taking place in this story. With every choice Maité made there were immediate consequences and they weren‘t always pleasant. Maité was an interesting young adult who had plenty of angst and grit and I definitely felt bad for her character as she was essentially being used as a pawn in a grand scheme. Overall this was one wild ride where the outcome was never a sure thing. Full review at www.thegenreminx.com
