Full disclosure: I don‘t really like short stories. This collection did not change my mind about the genre. While I thought some were pretty good, overall I felt weighted down by the melancholy. I was especially troubled by the recurring theme of dead animals, which saddens me more than most topics, as well as the broken relationships and sicknesses. I don‘t understand why the back of the book kept referring to the humor; I must have missed that.
Well now. This. Makes. My. Day. 💯
These short stories have all the feels. The characters are diverse in age, and face unique conundrums. Maizes clearly has history with beloved pets, because many stories include their relationships with humans. It‘s a quick read, and was perfect for a vacation with limited reading time. I especially loved the titular story and one called Tattoo. But honestly, every one was enjoyable. Pub date 7/23/19 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
