Nightflyers and Other Stories | 
pickThis sci-fi horror novella tells of a journey gone wrong to discover the mythical volcryns. When the captain of the Nightflyer sends a holographic projection of himself & refuses to meet the crew in person, suspicions soon arise. This one had some issues, & I do think that Tuf Voyaging is a better SF work by Martin. But as I was looking for a sci-fi horror to read, this scratched that itch.

pickBook 9: I watched the only season of the series based on this book. The basic story is the same: on the way to intercept an alien ship, the crew of The Nightflyer experience strange things. Gory deaths occur. The story isn‘t substantial enough for multiple seasons—the important plot points were covered in one. The characters are very different, but are more fleshed out and interesting in the series. It‘s good, but not his best. #30booksin30days
pickUnusual. It took me a while to get into the story and the style of writing (it‘s the first book by Martin that I‘ve read), but I was hooked by about the halfway mark. It‘s an interesting short story which manages to cover quite a bit of ground in a limited number of pages. It definitely hasn‘t made it onto my list of “all-time favorites”, but overall I quite enjoyed it and can appreciate what it has to offer. 🌚✨

so-soAs with most short stories, there is so much potential in this world to take it to all sorts of places. I look forward to the TV series to see how they translate the story, and if they explore further around the events in the book. Overall a nice quick and fast paced read
