Today is National PTSD Awareness Day, a cause that is near and dear to my heart, having been diagnosed long ago with C-PTSD.

If you know any memoirs that share stories of other sufferers, feel free to share those titles here!

This was a hard but incredible read. Having dealt with minor ptsd, it's so affirming to read about another dealing with it. So very brave of the author, and I'm grateful that this books exists.

Today is also #WorldMentalHealthDay. I fight against many disorders daily & have had to take time off for my mental health, so I know first hand that those with disorders face a lot of stigma around the world, even in developed "first world" countries. If you're neurotypical or not, it's so important to take care of yourself & learn about mental health issues to unlearn our societally built-in stigma. ????

BookishFeminist No matter your background, mental illness doesn't discriminate. Your problems are valid & it's not your fault. 💞 #mentalhealth #wndb #disability #ableism #diversebooks #weneeddiversebooks 8y
read_diverse_books Wonderful recommendations. I've heard great things about Furiously Happy. Sounds like a perfect audiobook! 8y
BookishFeminist @read_diverse_books I haven't listened to the audio but I don't think I've laughed harder at a book. 😂 Jenny Lawson is amazing. 8y

the_hibernator Fighting stigma on mental illness is a big deal to me, too. Have you read all of those books? I loved Noonday Demon 8y
BookishFeminist @the_hibernator a fair portion of them but not 100%! The ones I haven't read I've at least read snipets of- I've read a large chunk of Noonday Demon and agree, it's amazing! It's my mentor's favorite memoir and she teaches creative writing. I'll finish it when I have built up stamina for a long book on mental health. :) 8y
Titania ❤️❤️ 8y
the_hibernator I also read Solomon's book which was likewise fantastic, but not so much about mental illness. 8y
BookishFeminist @the_hibernator I have that one as well and had a similar problem with finishing it bc it's so long!! I tried a while ago for both of these books and didn't have the reading stamina I do now (bc of mental health reasons!) but I agree it is also really good. I hear this book discusses genetic disposition to mental health quite a not because Mukherjee's brother has schizophrenia I believe: 8y
DuckOfDoom i think i will have to read Furiously Happy, if it is so funny. It has been a long time since a book got me laughing 8y

the_hibernator I've heard so many good things about that book. I really want to read it. I, too have mental health issues that sometimes get in the way of living my life. They are toned down this year so far, though. 8y
tricours I've got The Noonday Demon, and I've been looking forward to reading it for a while now! Furiously Happy I started but just... couldn't get into. It feels too forced to me. 8y
LeahBergen Yes!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 8y
Centique Thanks so much for drawing our attention to this ❤️❤️ My family has 4 people with significant mental health issues so i also think it's really important to break through the stigma. I read The Man Who Couldn't Stop - well written, unfortunately some of it was so troubling to me I had to skip some chapters ☹️ An important read though! Gives a dose of reality to a misunderstood illness. 8y
WordWaller Omg all the national days I can't remember! TOOO MANYYY. But thank you so much for sharing this. As a person who struggles with several disorders myself, it's highly appreciated!! 8y
EnidBiteEm Furiously Happy 😍😍 I'm furiously in love with it 😀 8y
