A supernatural thriller in the vein of A Head Full of Ghosts about two young girls, a scary story that becomes far too real, and the tragic--and terrifying--consequences that follow one of them into adulthood. Red Lady, Red Lady, show us your face... In 1991, Heather Cole and her friends were members of the Dead Girls Club. Obsessed with the macabre, the girls exchanged stories about serial killers and imaginary monsters, like the Red Lady, the spirit of a vengeful witch killed centuries before. Heather knew the stories were just that, until her best friend Becca began insisting the Red Lady was real--and she could prove it. That belief got Becca killed. It's been nearly thirty years, but Heather has never told anyone what really happened that night--that Becca was right and the Red Lady was real. She's done her best to put that fateful summer, Becca, and the Red Lady, behind her. Until a familiar necklace arrives in the mail, a necklace Heather hasn't seen since the night Becca died. The night Heather killed her. Now, someone else knows what she did...and they're determined to make Heather pay.

The first thriller I‘ve read in awhile that actually felt original!! Half ghost story, half murder mystery, this book leaves you wondering just how exactly it‘s going to end, and that ending is so satisfying and RIGHT. There aren‘t a million unnecessary twists. It feels a bit Stephen King-ish. A great spooky read. #netgalley ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My thoughts while reading this book. “Eh.” “Meh.” “Oh.” “Hmm.” “Ooh, where‘s she going with this?” “Okay, now it‘s getting creepy.” “WTF is going on here?” “Is it or isn‘t it?” “Must. Know. Now.” “Whah, whah.” There was a stretch where I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, so I‘d probably give this author another try. A bit of a “Sun Down Motel” vibe, but you have to stick it out a bit to get there, and the ending underwhelmed me.

A solid addition to the mystery genre. This has a then/now approach to storytelling, possible unreliable narrator, the macabre/maybe supernatural undertones. It explores the uglier dynamics of troubled teenage girls and their friendships. At first I wasn‘t feeling it but I got into it and liked the reveals at the end. Well, I liked one reveal. One felt tacked on and apart from all the clues. The other was good. It kept me reading! #netgalley

It's gonna be late back to the library but it was so worth it. A fantastic book. Very intense and sad but utterly lovely and beautifully written.

Now, I don‘t need every character to be a genius, but having a lead who is a psychologist who makes every dumbass decision at every point is actually a writing flaw. Fun mystery but damn, she dumb!

This was a fun mystery. I enjoyed the alternating chapters between the present and past, and the way that doled out the key points of the story made for good pacing. It was pretty easy to get wrapped up in the main character's paranoia despite it feeling like an overreaction at first. This is definitely a fun, quick read.

This one started out great and fast paced. The middle slowed down a bit for me but then about 70% through the book it really started to pick up again to when I couldn‘t put it down. The ending was just great! It had such a twist that I didn‘t see it coming. Glad I stuck with it definitely was worth the read📚FULL REVIEW:

This came over my desk today to be checked in as a rush, but no one was on the hold list for it. It looked interesting so I snagged it. Then I found out that it just came out today! So that's kind of exciting. I'm the first person at my library who gets to read it. 😻

Heather Cole receives a half of a heart necklace, Her friend Becca had the other half but she died years ago. Who has sent this necklace to her? Heather thinks it is one of the other two girls from the Dead Girls Club, a club that read books about killers. She gets paranoid and thinks someone is after her.
This book is a psychological thriller. Well worth a read.

I was immediately sucked into this book since I was child who loved scary stories and movies. I was also a pre-teen girl once upon a time with difficult friendships. I am also currently a therapist which is the adult profession of the main character. I thought the book was well paced between “then” and “now” and it didn‘t lose my attention once. I finished it in about a day and a half which is rare for such a long book.

Wowza!!! This exciting thriller hooks you in the very beginning with two timelines from Heather‘s perspective- her present as a child psychologist and the summer of 1991, when she and her best friends had started the titular club- a macabre interest in murders, spooky stories and a growing obsession with a mysterious Red Lady... the past comes to her present and this book is chilling, thrilling and totally fulfilling! Thank you #NetGalley #Top2019

I really liked this. It pulled me in and kept me wanting to read. It turned out to be a pretty fast read. It is told alternating between Then and Now, as the reader slowly learns what happened that summer, while at the same time trying to figure out who has contacted Heather now. Yes, I was surprised by a couple of twists at the end. And, there were a few creepy parts, so fitting for an October read.

I thought that Damien Angelica Walters wrote about the melodrama of being twelve and the complexities that accompany preteen friendships with startling accuracy. The emotions that twelve-year-old Heather felt towards Becca and the other members of the Dead Girls Club were very realistic to me. On a more serious note, this book is an interesting take on what we, especially as children, are willing to believe when we're desperate.

This one felt disjointed, and the pacing was inconsistent. My rating teetered between a 2 and a 3 but the story picked up at the end. I can usually predict or see a twist coming but these blindsided me, I had no idea. I had a hard time detecting the main character's emotion as she seemed vapid in moments of nonsuspense, and therefore I was not sympathetic. A solid 3 out of 5 stars in the end.

Thank you to netgalley for sharing an arc for review.

I‘m super enjoying this plot line and quickly devouring this book, but seriously, one more description of Heather annihilating her cuticle skin and I‘m shelving it 🤣😳

Excited for this ARC! The description is too good: In 1991, Heather and her friends were members of the Dead Girls Club.
