Sanctuary (Reprint)
Sanctuary (Reprint) | Caryn LIX
Alien meets Alexandra Bracken's The Darkest Minds in this thrilling debut novel about prison-guard-in-training, Kenzie, who is taken hostage by the superpowered criminal teens of the Sanctuary space station--only to have to band together with them when the station is attacked by mysterious creatures. Kenzie holds one truth above all: the company is everything. As a citizen of Omnistellar Concepts, the most powerful corporation in the solar system, Kenzie has trained her entire life for one goal: to become an elite guard on Sanctuary, Omnistellar's space prison for superpowered teens too dangerous for Earth. As a junior guard, she's excited to prove herself to her company--and that means sacrificing anything that won't propel her forward. But then a routine drill goes sideways and Kenzie is taken hostage by rioting prisoners. At first, she's confident her commanding officer--who also happens to be her mother--will stop at nothing to secure her freedom. Yet it soon becomes clear that her mother is more concerned with sticking to Omnistellar protocol than she is with getting Kenzie out safely. As Kenzie forms her own plan to escape, she doesn't realize there's a more sinister threat looming, something ancient and evil that has clawed its way into Sanctuary from the vacuum of space. And Kenzie might have to team up with her captors to survive--all while beginning to suspect there's a darker side to the Omnistellar she knows.

I have only gotten to chapter nine so far and I am really enjoying it. I can relate to the main character (Kenzie) and it helps be connect and understand the book better. The author uses very descriptive words which engages me to the book more. This book has kept me engaged so far and I can‘t wait to finish it. If you like books that are action packed and keep you wanting more, this book is for you. The motif of this book is you don‘t know who

PatrickBulger You got until there gone. This is important because when Kenzie is faced with a lot of lose and trauma and is quick to realize that it‘s harder to do things on your own. 4y
PatrickBulger There is a prison in space that holds super-powered criminals. One night systems fail and the criminals are loose. There are only a few prison guards working there and one is Kenzie, she is in training to become a prison guard. She has to figure out how to round up all the super-powered criminals before they end figure out how to make it back down to earth. 4y
PatrickBulger The point of view for Sanctuary is in third person omniscient and because there are l two people telling the story. Caryn Lix uses third person omniscient to show two sides of the story and helped me understand the plot more. 4y

The Avengers Reading Challenge March special mission book. It was an interesting read and I think I‘ll definitely do the rest of the series at some point, just not right now because I have other books on higher priority (ie my Netgalley stack 🤦🏼‍♀️😅).
Kenzie, space prison guard in training, gets taken hostage when the teen super powered prisoners make an escape. Things go from bad to worse when something else finds its way onto the prison.

Sanctuary follows the story of Kenzie as she works hard to land a job at an interstellar prison, containing the most dangerous superpowered teenagers to ever live. Throughout the book, we follow Kenzie as we learn more about the Sanctuary prison. The motif of this book is family, and how your loyalties affects your decisions. If you like books that are about prison stories, with an overarching plot involving superpowers, you‘ll like this book.

MissYaremcio OOOo this sounds like a sci-fi I might actually enjoy! Have you read Tunnels? Sounds somewhat similar! Great review! 6/6 5y

I don't know if it was just my mood or what, but I had a really hard time caring about any of these people. It was a good story, but I'm not gonna rush to get my hands on the sequel.

So my #bookoutlet #bookhaul came in two days early. Here is what I am keeping for myself. There were more for my #bookswaps. Let the wrapping begin.

DefLeppard @LibrarianRyan omg, beautiful. Seems like you like a lot of fantasy / sci fi. One of my fave genres. 😊 6y
LibrarianRyan @DefLeppard that is generally what I read. When I read contemporary it‘s normally adult thriller and I read library books or they are sent from the publisher. 6y
DefLeppard @LibrarianRyan quite a few genres then, I read very widely and of course depending on mood or "occasion" reading like horror for Halloween, festive light reads for Christmas. 6y

#happy reading place I‘ve never done a hashtag before so correct me if I‘m wrong. This a book that got me back into reading. 40 pages in your already neck deep second guessing yourself. This is a book where you realize how easy it to love and trust your captors. Like many I felt impenetrable to Stockholm syndrome but, I was victim to it from just reading about someone in that scenario.

Kyle_MacKinnon Just from looking at the post I can tell I messed up the hashtag. 6y

Very good sci-fi/horror/dystopia. Very entertaining and, surprisingly, not overly romancey. Well worth the read.

This has a touch of an Illuminae feel. It's not quite as good as that book but if you like Illuminae I think you'll like this. There's aliens and superpowers and a touch of romance but it wasn't too much and wasn't too insta-love. I enjoyed it and will most likely read the next in the series.

TheBookAddict Also, do you think you would be able to add a list of the books you talk about on your video description? It would just make it easier to search for the books. I also subscribed! 6y

Well despite the heat, and a very irate and racist disabled man on the light rail here in Phoenix; I made it to Changing Books and their bookstore bar, First Draft, where I found a couple of books and took some time out to read my library book (pictured) and enjoy a maple and pecan scone along with a glass of cider. All in all, a great way to spend my Phoenix layover.

Sanctuary is the Prison Break meets Alien debut novel by Caryn Lix. A high octane sci-fi action adventure that grips you from the very first pages. It is fast paced, action packed and thrilling with a little romance and horror thrown in for good measure. It has a little bit of something to appeal to the pickiest reader and would be perfect as a quick summer read.
