The book started out intriguing; however it got repetitive quickly. I thought the direction Meg‘s life had taken was realistic and pertinent to her character. I found myself enjoying her perspective more than Jo‘s. However, I think Jo‘s side of the story grew too focused on romance and obscured her independent spirit. The immense devotion given to Jo‘s infatuation to Eric was disappointing.

I love this retelling! The updates align with the spirit of the original text, but the modernizations also add a fresh feeling, especially for Beth. #retelling #contemporaryfiction

I really enjoyed this retelling. I loved how the sisters felt so modern and part of today's world.

I really enjoyed this thoroughly modern reimagining of Little Women, told in the alternating voices of mom-of-twins Meg and food blogger Jo.

Okay, I was just bored so I gave up. Not a lot was happening besides Meg and Jo bitching and moaning about their lives.

A modern retelling of the second half of little women from the perspective of the two older sisters. I really had a good time seeing how certain things were adapted.

I went through my book cases this weekend as they were starting to overflow. This is now my TBR pile!

DGRachel Wow! I don‘t dare pull all of my unread books off my shelves. 😱🤣🤣 5y
Nute Whoa! Let the reading begin! 5y
Copwithabook @DGRachel I keep mine scattered throughout the house so my husband doesn‘t know how many haven‘t been read yet (he‘s try to enforce a spending freeze if he did!) 5y

DGRachel @Copwithabook 🤣🤣 I swear I was going to put a freeze on book buying this year, but then COVID hit... 5y
Graciouswarriorprincess @DGRachel @Nute @Copwithabook @Cinfhen Lol! I also swore that I wasn‘t going to buy any books this year. A lot of these books have come from the annual library sale, gifts and arcs. I pick 35 books a year from this pile for my Mount TBR on goodreads. Still my reading list and books grow but living in a small apartment, I only have so much room for bookcases too. Happy reading! 5y

Bailed on this one. Cute premise but the main characters were annoying and over the top. Very sad since the original is so good. ☹️
Now I need to find a new, light audiobook. Everything else I‘m reading takes brain work. 😂 Back to the library!

First let me say one of the first books bought for me was Little Women by my junior high school librarian. Having this gem set in modern times was fabulous. Meg and Jo were the two March sisters that I connected to the most when I read the original years ago. They are timeless characters that still feel very real with real current life issues. I enjoyed every once of this retelling.

After a bookseller recommended this one, I put it on hold at the library, then had to wait another month because it was overdue that long. A contemporary version of Little Women, this tells the story by alternating between Meg & Jo‘s perspectives. I really liked Chef Eric, the bonds of sisterhood, & Meg‘s character arc. There‘s a sequel coming out (Beth & Amy) that I will definitely read. #readtheUSA2020 for North Carolina

A modern retelling of Little Women with an interesting restructuring of the story. It starts towards the end of the actual book and we spend a lot more time with Jo & Bhaer. This was alright but it was missing the heart that makes the original so good. I think the restructuring doesn't allow the reader to fall in love with the characters and to see the growth necessary for the book's ultimate payoff. It was fine but I was hoping for much more.

It was alright. I feel like the character Jo did not grow all that much. Meg's story was slightly better but I found the twins more entertaining than her relationship with her husband. I didn't even bother to read the excerpt because I am not interested in Trey and Amy's story. Too bad Meg doesn't have a separate book because I'd definitely read it.

Little Women has been adapted into a modern setting with Jo as a food blogger and Meg as a overworked mom who won‘t let anyone help her out because it‘s her job. It was a fun read, but I don‘t consider it true to the characters.

A modern retelling of Little Women with a more romance focus. Didn‘t love some of the twists but this was entertaining enough.

Currently reading. This is a cute adaptation of Little Women. Has anyone seen the new film already? I saw it last week and loved it. What did you think?

GatheringBooks hi stef! went to the post office today to track the #screamsbymail book - but they said no such package for the tracking number you gave. did you include my mobile number? it is needed in sending anything here, unfortunately 5y
scripturient @GatheringBooks Yes, I added the mobile number. This is a nightmare. Still waiting to hear from DHL. I think we need to figure something out for the next round. I‘ll look into other carriers. 5y
mom2bugnbee LW is my favorite book of all time. The 90's movie adaptation with Winona Ryder is one of my favorite movies of all time. Greta Gerwig's version blew it out of the water. I ADORED this new adaptation. It quickly vaulted into my top 5 movies. 5y

“Little Women” is a childhood favorite of mine, one that I tend to read around the holidays, so I was intrigued by this retelling. In some ways I enjoyed this retelling more than Alcott‘s original book. I found that Kantra fixed all the issues I had with Alcott‘s story and that I actually like the sisters and their relationship better in her retelling. I can see this becoming a reread #WinterGames #TheFilthyAnimals #ImpulseRead

A modern day retelling of Little Women, partially (there is an upcoming novel called Beth & Amy that I'm sure will advance the story.) - I have to be honest when I say I never gave Meg one moment of thought, always seeing Jo as the central character, so Meg's story was interesting to me with her epic sense of responsibility. ⤵️

ReadingEnvy Jo's story was also interesting as a food blogger in NYC, with a pretty memorable love scene, but it was a little hard for me to think of the March sisters as anything but chaste! The relocation to NC instead of Concord was an interesting choice, and the modernization of the father was pretty realistic. One big difference for me is that I root for Laurie in the original, but not here (he's called Trey in this retelling.) 5y
Sace This review makes me 1.want to read the original (which I've never done) and 2. Immediately read this! 😁 5y
ReadingEnvy @Sace yes! Read the original. I haven't in years and years but it was a childhood fave. 5y

Enjoyed contemporary take on one of my favorite novels. A small HP reference, a Twilight reference. No Hunger Games. It focuses more on Volume/Part 2, with stories from childhood mixed in. Jo is now working in a restaurant in NYC and moonlights as a blogger. Meg, a stay at home mom, whose marriage may be falling apart. It's also a reminder that I haven't read Little Women in so long, is time to reread

Little Women is my favorite childhood book and I‘m generally loathe to read any kind of spin off works. But this one has had good buzz and it seemed fun and light - perfect for this busy time of year.

If you love a good modern day retelling & if you're a fan of Little Women you're gonna love Meg & Jo.
A wonderful book about family & navigating adulthood. The author puts her own spin on the March sisters but wonderfully writes various nods and character traits of the March sisters fans of the original book will appreciate & love.
