An outcast teenage lesbian witch finds her coven hidden amongst the popular girls in her school, and performs some seriously badass magic in the process. Skulking near the bottom of West Highs social pyramid, Sideways Pike lurks under the bleachers doing magic tricks for Coke bottles. As a witch, lesbian, and lifelong outsider, shes had a hard time making friends. But when the three most popular girls pay her $40 to cast a spell at their Halloween party, Sideways gets swept into a new clique. The unholy trinity are dangerous angels, sugar-coated rattlesnakes, and nowunbelievablySideways best friends. Together, the four bond to form a ferocious and powerful coven. They plan parties, cast curses on dudebros, try to find Sideways a girlfriend, and elude the fundamentalist witch hunters hellbent stealing their magic. But for Sideways, the hardest part is the whole having friends thing. Who knew that balancing human interaction with supernatural peril could be so complicated? Rich with the urgency of feral youth, The Scapegracers explores growing up and complex female friendship with all the rage of a teenage girl. It subverts the trope of competitive mean girls and instead portrays a mercilessly supportive clique of diverse and vivid characters. It is an atmospheric, voice-driven novel of the occult, and the first of a three-book series.

I absolutely loved this book! I‘m so so SO happy I picked it up! I feel like this book has been seriously under hyped. I haven‘t seen any reviews from anyone I follow on bookish social media and I hope to see that remedied soon! This is the queer, teen, witch story, I have been longing for since the movie, The Craft, hit theaters in 1996. It‘s raw, unapologetic, and dangerous. I couldn‘t hit the preorder button for The Scratch Daughters harder.

If you are looking for a YA witchy girl posse read this is for you. Descriptive and ensnaring. I loved every dark teen angsty moment of it and am looking forward to its sequel!

In December, I don‘t have to read any new titles for episodes of All the Books! because we do wrap-up and preview shows, so it‘s kind of a free reading pass month for me. I usually use the time to get ahead on reading for the next year‘s episodes, but this weekend I am going to spend it revisiting some of my favorites from 2020. What are you reading this weekend? 📚❤️📚

MicheleinPhilly Shuggie Bain is currently cracking my heart wide open. 3y
AmyL Hoping to finish The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. A Burning is in my what‘s next pile! 3y

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.

No idea what this book is about. Hadn't even seen it until last week. And the cover may be plain, but I love the color play and the darkness and imaginary that make me think pagan sacrifices.

Out September 14

Time to knuckle down and finish off the (almost) last book from the April TBR. I'm enjoying this but I think I am over the contemporary-style witch books 🌕✨ They just aren't gritty enough for me.

There was a cover reveal for this amazing high school lesbian witch book today, and I'm completely in love! An amazing tattoo artist as the cover artist, and such a fun start to a new series.

Who knew that balancing human interaction with supernatural peril could be so complicated?
