Good apocalyptic fiction. Another virus attacks the world.

What happens in a pandemic when everyone who‘s not immune or doesn‘t get the limited supply of vaccine is dead? We send off genetically engineered babies out with robot mothers programmed with the mother code to keep them safe & preserve the human race. But when it‘s time to bring them all back in, how do we get past the mothers, whose primary directive is to protect the children? An interesting sci-fi story for this particular time for sure.

The Mother Code was on my radar for quite a while before publication. It didn't meet my high expectations. Part of the problem may lie in reading about viral pandemic during a viral pandemic. As much as I've always been a fan of sci-fi and dystopian fiction, it doesn't hold the same appeal when it's perilously close to real life. [more below]

JoyBlue The story is set in two timelines with two casts of characters. There is, eventually, some overlap. I wasn't invested in any of the characters in either timeline. Way too much time is spent on the children with mechanical “mothers.“ 4y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you @Addison_Reads for gifting me this book! I really loved it! This was a great sci fi read. There was a lot of “sci fi science” that I just loved and the robot mother storyline was very beautiful. I‘m so glad I read this even though the world is a little eerily similar to our world right now. I‘ve read for 3.5 hours so far #24b4monday

Andrew65 Well done, a great start. 👏👏👏 (edited) 4y

mollyrotondo @Addison_Reads I know I was a little worried to. But the mail doesn‘t come everyday so I was trying to be patient. So glad it showed up in the mailbox! I‘ll tag you in my review once I‘m finished! Thank you! 4y

I won an ARC of this book in a Goodreads giveaway.

Perhaps I'm a little nuts, but this book about a man-made pandemic created by humans that causes catastrophic events to occur was exactly what I needed to forget about what's going on right now. 😁 The interactions between the robot mothers and the human children were fascinating to me.

If anyone is interested in reading this one, I'm happy to send it to you. #PayItForward. US only please.

mollyrotondo I‘d be interested in reading this one. I‘d love to send you something too but it might have to be after this mess is near an end because no one is picking up outgoing mail right now where I live. So my #payitforward might not be for a couple of months 🤦🏻‍♀️ 4y
Addison_Reads @mollyrotondo No need to send something to me, although I appreciate the offer. When things calm down either pass this book on to someone else, or share a book from your shelves with another book lover. No time limit. I just like passing on books to others. 😁 If you'll send me an email with your address to caddison97@gmail.com I will put this in the mail to you. 💚 4y

I rec‘d an adv read copy of this book. I was leery at first. I‘ve never read a book of the Sci Fi genre. After starting it, I found it hard to put down.
This author‘s background as a biochemist came through in her writing, which made it a little hard to follow at times. I could tell she‘s one smart cookie! That being said, I can‘t wait to hear that someone else has read this book so that Give this book a try?I don‘t think you‘ll be disappointed.

This was an interesting concept. How do you save the human race after you already messed it up? Merry Christmas! 🎄❤

“The Mother Code” explores what it means to be maternal and what a family is in the wake of man-made apocalypse. It is a slow burn, but one with important undertones. It is one to look forward to in May 2020.

Cathyloves2read Do you think this author knew something ?? 4y
