Another pretty cover. And honestly a better book. A lot of racism but much less r wording happening. Onward to the third!

The Miscellaneous categories for #NoShameReadathon were harder than the rest for me, they really aren‘t in my wheelhouse.
Western - A Longer Fall (Gunnie Rose #2)
Inspirational - ???
While I think of the Gunnie Rose series as Paranormal Alt History, it‘s totally a Western. As for the Inspirational Fiction genre, I find myself at a loss - I‘ve got nothing. I might just let it be, but if you have any suggestions, I‘m all ears!

#summerreading Stack 2/6
The Thief: ✅ 3/5
The Reluctant Queen: ✅ 4/5
A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking: ✅ 3/5
The Merciful Crow: currently listening to the audiobook
A Longer Fall: TBR
This stack fells like I actually read a lot of the summer reading books. Which I did not. But, there's a lot of summer left, right?
Hey… no one ever said patience was *my* virtue. I‘m actually notoriously IMpatient when it comes to books… 😬🥸😎
Anyway, *while* ThriftBooks.com is mailing me the 2nd Gunnie Rose book, I checked it out from the library (hoopla) on audio. I picked the dramatized version. I‘m about 1/4 done and loving the dramatization! @Tineke - if I can get away with it, I‘ll send you both books! 😄
Also, this 90-calorie coffee drink? 👄🤌🏽 (yumm!)
I am a fan of Harris, I think she writes really interesting female characters and Lizbeth Rose is no exception. My lockdown exhausted brain couldn't focus on any book this week until this one took me somewhere else for a few precious hours with action adventure and a sex-positive love story.
However a story about Southern race relations, no matter how well intentioned, to have no developed black characters is not a good look.
Charlaine Harris is an author whose books I will pick up without knowing what they're about. That being said, I am not a fan of Westerns, so I was wary of this series going in. But the mix of alternate history, magic, & a fast paced plot in the 1st book enthralled me, & I loved A Longer Fall just as much. Does anyone know if this series will be longer than 3 books? First book finished in 2021. Woo-hoo! #seriesread2021
Litsy is my safe space, where we lift each other up instead of tearing each other down, so I won't get political. I just want to say that the division in my country scares me, & I had to get off social media yesterday due to the hate being spewed. I picked up my book to calm myself & it happened to be a scene with a peaceful resolution to a riot & people finding unity. It was exactly what I needed in that moment. Thank you, Charlaine Harris.💓
🎧 long day. I enjoyed this book. Gunnie Rose picks up shortly after she left off in the 1st book with a new crew. Things don‘t go well again and she ends up pretending to be married to an old friend to investigate the theft of the box she has paid to protect. The mystery box has something world ending within it. A solidly written and narrated 2nd book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My review of this book can be found on my Youtube Vlog at:

Enjoy!
We meet up with Lizbeth "Gunnie" Rose on a train with a new mission to get a single crate to Dixie. But we know Gunnie doesn't have the best of luck and in an attempt to steal the box the train is derailed and dozens of people are killed.
.
This felt a little all over the place. While it furthered the romantic aspects from the first, I think this suffered from the sophomore slump. Too much trying to be done.
I read any book that Charlaine Harris writes. She is one of my go to authors and I just love her new Gunnie Rose series. This is the second book in the series and just like the first it kept me on the edge of my seat with so many twists and turns. I was sad when it ended because I just wanted more. I can‘t wait for the next book!
Taking advantage of a late start at work today to stay curled up in bed and make some more progress on my library pile! Charlaine Harris‘ stuff is pretty much always good for a quick, entertaining read, and as usual, I really enjoy her characters. #alongerfall #lizbethrose #gunnierose #charlaineharris
Book mail!
Super excited to see where the adventure goes in this series, this is book 2.
I‘m a long time Harris fan, so I give her a bit of leeway. Couple things felt rushed, and I‘m conflicted about Moses the Black and his magic singing. However, Harris writes engaging stories and while I questioned a couple things, it was hard to put down. Liked seeing more of the world in which Lisbeth lives too. The differences were marked and interesting.
I can't stop myself from reading a Charlaine Harris book. They're ridiculous & cozy with strong female protagonists that most readers can identify with while adding a dose of paranormal.
This is the 2nd in a paranormal fantasy series set in an alternative history of the U.S. following Lisbeth Rose, a young gun for hire & I devoured it in a day.
I don't understand the allure but yet I'm charmed by her books every time.
I love this new series. Of course I received an ARC and then had to track down the other book in the series. I'm really glad I found this. Read the other one first though. The main character is an epic heroine btw.
