How to Save Your Child from Ostrich Attacks, Accidental Time Travel, and Anything Else that Might Happen on an Average Tuesday
How to Save Your Child from Ostrich Attacks, Accidental Time Travel, and Anything Else that Might Happen on an Average Tuesday | James Breakwell
6 posts | 2 read | 4 to read
The parenting humorist behind the viral Twitter account @XplodingUnicorn and author of Only Dead on the Inside: A Parents Guide to Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse presents the long-awaited guide to surviving everything else In the era of instant parent shaming and viral hot takes, some questions are too dangerous to ask out loud: What's the proper first aid for my toddlers vampire bite? What should I do if I take a wrong turn on the way to soccer practice and end up in the Cretaceous Period? How can I fend off Godzilla without disrupting my child's nap? Fortunately, there's now a parenting resource that answers those burning questions and many more. Professional comedy writer and amateur father James Breakwells latest book tackles more than 90 survival challenges ordinary parents might encounter in their everyday lives, including: How to protect your child against tigers, penguins, mastodons, and other animals found in the suburbs. How to defeat ghosts, gremlins, mummies, and any other supernatural force that might prevent you from getting your kid to bed on time. How to survive crashing horses, trains, hot air balloons, and other vehicles you might find in the carpool lane. This is an essential guide for anyone who has children, might have children someday, or is vaguely aware children exist. Put this book down at your ownand your childrensrisk.

A very silly book taking a light hearted approach to child care

Finally finished my February #bookspin pick!! If you enjoy Breakwell's social media, you'll like this book. It got repetitive in parts (personally, I think his perfect writing length is his weekly newsletter) but was still good fun. Breakwell makes me laugh a lot for free, so I am always happy to order his books as a thank you if nothing else!

TheAromaofBooks Favorite quote: “If your child falls off the bed and hits their head, but might wonder if you need to take your child to the emergency room. You don't. If it were a real emergency, you would know, because you would be on your way to the emergency room instead of wondering if you could keep your child home to save some money. In a real crisis, your survival genes override your cheapness genes.“ 😂 5y
TheAromaofBooks Challenges: Slightly stretching here, but going with Satire for #Jennyis30 (of a parenting book) @jenniferw88 and also self-care for #FebruaryBookBingo - I think learning to survive in case I ever get thrown into the Harry Potter universe is definitely self-care! 😁 5y
BookishMe Glad to know cheapness genes is not uncommon! Lol 5y

Well friends, we are now halfway through February!! Just checking in to say how much I have been enjoying everyone's posts. This whole challenge is definitely adding, rather than subtracting, books from my TBR, but sometimes that's how life goes! 😁

Reminder - please tag me directly in your review posts for #BookSpin & #DoubleSpin reads so that I can mark you down for an entry in the end-of-year giveaway!!

Have also had several people ask - ⬇

TheAromaofBooks and yes - I do plan to have #BookSpin every month, as long as life events don't conspire against me too much. The drawing will theoretically be on the 2nd every month.

Thank you so much to everyone who is participating & keep your reviews coming!! 😊

JamieArc Looking forward to starting my #Bookspin book today! 5y

veritysalter It‘s such a fab idea @TheAromaofBooks , we‘re all guilty (or perhaps it‘s just me) of buying more books than we can possibly read, then they end up sad and dusty on a shelf. 5y
rabbitprincess I‘m enjoying seeing everyone‘s posts too, so much so that I‘ve built my own list for next month 😄 5y
Amandajoy I‘m hoping to start mine this weekend 🤓 5y
SamAnne I want to play on the next spin! 5y
TheAromaofBooks @kspenmoll @JamieArc - yay!! Keep me posted!! I'm hoping to read mine this week, too! 5y
TheAromaofBooks @veritysalter - it's just so easy to collect them up and never get around to actually reading them. My big weakness is used books - I'm always finding them at thrift stores and Little Free Libraries and at booksales - and when they are less than a dollar, it's pretty easy to justify! Except now there are hundreds of books here! 😆 5y
TheAromaofBooks @rabbitprincess @SamAnne - it would be great to have you along for the March spin!! I'll add you to the tag list!! 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Amandajoy - I think I'm going to pick mine up this week, too!! 5y
Smarkies A quick question on whether I need to post up a new list for bookspin every month or can I use the original one? 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Smarkies - It's however you want it to be!! I enjoy making a totally new list every month, which you can also do. Most people just add books to fill in the blank(s) for what they read. A few people really want to read those specific 20 books this year, so instead of adding a title, they give the used number to another book on the list (so if they read No. 1 and No. 12 in Feb, they might make book No. 2 be No 1 & 2; and book No. 11 be No 11 & 12) 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Smarkies - (cont'd) - it's a pretty loose challenge, so however you want to end up with 20 numbers is good with me!! 😊 5y
Smarkies @TheAromaofBooks thanks! 😁 5y

The tagged book is my #BookSpin winner, and Well Met is my #DoubleSpin draw. Probably won't read either this week, but I think I can do both sometime in February!!

Deifio Tagged book sounds like lots of fun! 🤩 5y
Scochrane26 I love Well Met. 5y
rockpools Sounds just like my average Tuesday! 5y

TheAromaofBooks @Deifio - the author is popular on Twitter and such. I get his weekly newsletter and it is one of the highlights of my week. I figure that even if I don't love his book, it's a small price to pay for someone who brings me a lot of laughs for free! 😁 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Scochrane26 - I've heard a lot of good things about it, so I'm excited to finally dive in! 5y
TheAromaofBooks @RachelO - Right!? Especially if kids are involved! 😆 5y
hes7 Well Met is so fun! And James Breakwell‘s tweets are hilarious—hope his book is just as funny. 5y
TheAromaofBooks @hes7 - I've heard a lot of happy things about Well Met. And I'm a huge fan of Breakwell. I don't do Twitter any more, but I follow him on Instagram and also am subscribed to his weekly newsletter, which I highly recommend. I figure that even if his book isn't that great, I don't mind pay $15 since he makes me snort-laugh when I read about his life every week! 😂 5y
Prairiegirl_reading Are you planning on doing this every month? I meant to get a list together and I forgot. 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Prairiegirl_reading - I am hoping to do this every month, yes! The draw will always be on the 2nd of the month. You are still welcome to join for February if you want - you can just count off to the 12th book on your shelf, or the 12th book on your Kindle list, or anything like that. Either way, I'll add you to the tag list for when it's time to get the March list together!! 5y
Prairiegirl_reading Yes please add me for March! 😄 5y
TheAromaofBooks @Prairiegirl_reading - I have you down!! 5y

I don't have #bookmail posts very often because I am more of a library girl, but look at this stack of goodies!! Swiss Family Robinson and The Prenup are for my #lmpbc groups (Classics and Romance). The tagged book was a pre-order - James Breakwell makes my day better regularly. The last book is what happens when the eBay description doesn't match what they sent! (I need Winter Holiday; this includes that & the original book in one volume).
