I‘ve been hearing about this series for years and was drawn to the concept, so I‘m glad I finally got around to reading the first one, but I‘m not inclined to continue. Honestly I‘m a bit unclear on what the message is re rebelling against vs accepting traditional roles in this community. I‘d be interested to know the typical demographics of the readership of this series. 👇🏼

I love this book!!! It is my go to airplane read for it‘s simplicity and easy to read style. Also, you can interpret it a little different every time! Did I mention it‘s funny? Read the excerpt above :)

I‘m working in our summer camp‘s library/ sensory room this summer (it‘s kinda my dream job). I read this book between visits from kids. Mirka lives in an Orthodox Jewish community. She dreams of fighting dragons. In pursuit of her goals, she pushes boundaries and rebels against rules, but also draws strength from her upbringing.

This middle grade graphic novel about an Orthodox Jewish girl looking to Slaughter nearby evil fantasy creatures is unique and delightful and so much fun. The ending was especially fun. Definitely recommending this to everyone I know. I look forward to reading more from the series.

I read this graphic novel on the plane home and it was absolutely delightful and charming!

A delightful graphic novel full of humour, adventure, and unexpected characters. Mirka is a great protagonist, and I love how she defies gender expectations but the book also values work associated with women (one battle involves knitting!). It takes place in a kind of fairy tale land out of time but is also rooted in an Orthodox Jewish community. So it's a fun intro for Gentile kids and awesome representation for Jewish kids. #WeNeedDiverseBooks

My Christmas vacation starts now! And of course that means hanging out with my Dad's cat Trixie and a big to-read pile. I'm gonna finish Dumplin' and Labyrinth Lost today, which one should I read next? #CatsofLitsy

This is the first of the series, but I read it third. Really cute and a quick graphic novel with a fun adventure.
