Sometimes my local library really comes through.
Sometimes my local library really comes through.
Why do the blurbs on the back of books reveal so much of the story! I try not to read them, but sometimes it happens before I can stop it.
I reached the third act of this book and kind of lost interest. 🤭 There was a huge shift and I‘m sure it‘s going to get really good, but I am ready to move on. Do you ever feel like you‘ve been reading the same book for so long, you just want to be done with it?
This was way more fun than reading the Odyssey. I wouldn‘t mind my own island with lions and wolves. Circe got on my nerves though. Definitely want to read the Song of Achilles sometime.
Also a story of compassion and brokenness. The way Bryan writes about how we‘re all connected through our brokenness is something I‘ll always remember. It‘s always alarming to see stats and dates that show how awful this country has been and in recent years. Not just way back in the history books.
Took my little man to the local library this weekend. He wore his Captain America costume from Halloween.
I‘ve started this three times and think I finally found my rhythm. I was about to give up and then I read an article about the author‘s interview with Roxane Gay that made me keep going. I‘m in a non fantasy loving season of life, but this book is beautifully written. Also, it smells really good. 😂
Very short classic about race. This is the kind of thing that I wish was taught to me in high school. I think every classic novel we read was written by a white person. Plus, this is just over 100 pages long. Perfect for busy high schoolers!
After A Place For Us, I want to read everything out of SJP for Hogarth. I finished earlier today and I don‘t know how to rate it. It‘s so crushing. It‘s going to bother me for a while. It‘s a very fast read. I don‘t think I‘ve ever read about Trinidad before, so I feel like I‘ve learned something about that place through this novel.
I have a lot of new followers. I‘m probably a big disappointment, but thank you! Today is my birthday and I gave my two week notice to my current job. Kind of a wild day! This book is really good so far, I‘ve just had no time to read with all the changes happening in life.
These were both really weird and trippy. And you can read them in one sitting. One is fiction, one is non fiction. Fever Dream made me want to hug my child. I definitely recommend What We See When We Read to anyone who loves reading. Makes ya think about your brain and what‘s going on in there when you look at words on a page.
This quote from my reading journal made me think of Litsy.
My favorite book of the year! This was all my wheelhouses in one. I am so glad Esi Edugyan is on my radar now. I have to read more of her work. This was such a great story. I don‘t want to give any of it away. It should be a movie. If you like the Ologies podcast, I recommend this book. I just finished it and can‘t stop gushing. There is one specific quote I wrote down and will have to think on it more later. Gah! The hype is real.
I wanted to slow down my reading this year. This book certainly helped with that. It‘s nice to read about my home state although I‘m not familiar with the particular area the book was set in.
I grabbed this from a little lending library a while ago. I feel bad but it‘s just not for me. More and more I‘m finding fantasy isn‘t my genre unless it‘s the classics I grew up with. I‘m glad I can give it back the the lending library and someone else can enjoy it.
Isn‘t this weird? I just realized these were two different things. My mind is blown right now.
I have owned this for such a long time. I think I bought it in high school. I really wanted to start 2019 reading something by a woman but since I‘ve owned this for so long, I think it‘s a great way to start reading what I own. Also it‘s really funny. I haven‘t read Vonnegut in a long time. I missed him.
This is a stack of books I‘ve read in the past couple years that I want to go back to. I read them all from the library and then bought them later. Normally I don‘t circle back to something I have read before (unless it‘s Harry Potter) since there is so much new material to consume. But in 2019 I want to take my time and enjoy these again.
This may be the last book of 2018 for me. It was really entertaining, I‘m just becoming a fuddy duddy when it comes to fantasy lately. Pro tip: there is a glossary in the back. I found it quite useful for my slow holiday brain.
This was a beautiful book. I read it on the hoopla app, which is a great resource if you have a library card. This story contained so much, but I really like the passages on faith, how we use “God‘s will” to simplify complicated matters and use it to try to erase or ignore a lot of pain. There is so much I can‘t get into here, but please read this book if you haven‘t already!
This came in the mail yesterday and I read it yesterday. Totally off my brand as I normally keep a book at least a year before cracking it open.
This was a great scientific memoir. The author writes about being a woman scientist, the life of plants and trees, and her relationship with her lab partner. The epilogue has inspired me to plant a tree somewhere in my backyard. #catsoflitsy
Umwelt is blowing my mind. #wordoftheweek
#nonfictionnovember So my son started the morning early with a stomach bug, so I get to stay home today and read (and also take care of him, of course). This book...I‘m only a few chapters in, but whoa. Like tigers are cool, but they are terrifying. I love non fiction. I used to think it was boring, but now I‘ve matured. 😂
Book orders were always my favorite part of school. And now I get to relive that fun time with my son.
It‘s just not my day. I opened up a book from thriftbooks and it‘s missing the first 4 pages. Am I missing a lot of info in these pages? Am I okay without them? Am I cursed? Should I stop reading?
I‘m taking this back to the library without finishing. I love it, but my library is charging me an insane amount of money and accusing me of damaging a book. I‘m done with them. I called and they just wanted to get me off the phone. I loved that library, so I‘m heartbroken. It sounds stupid, but I know you all will understand. Luckily, I have a small local library I can go to. Just sad about losing this other one. 😔
Just looking at my book. Wishing I were home reading it. Instead of at this desk. I see you!
Classic.
My way of keeping up with the show everyone is talking about. #libraryhold
Might have gone a tad overboard with the poetry the other day at the library. #catsoflitsy
I recommend asking your library to buy books. They take requests.
This is not the kind of book I ever enjoy. I would much rather read a non fiction book than historical fiction. Like I need to know way more about the Spanish flu. The ending was too neat for me. I‘m going to put it in a little lending library and hope it finds a good home.
Also bought this babe. I love #bookriot so much. But I feel like I need to wait until 2019 to start using it? I kinda want a break from goodreads next year and this will work perfectly.
Recently discovered thriftbooks.com. Which is a big deal because there are no used bookstores near me. But also bought a book about feeling “trapped in the machine of excess.” Oh and I still have one book in transit.
Most people seem to love this book. I liked the historical part of it but didn‘t really care about any of the characters.
Oops. Read it in one sitting. Now it‘s way past my bedtime.
One of my favorite books from childhood. Can‘t remember much about it though. I had to buy it again because my parents donated all my books to the library about a decade ago. Boo.
