Why do the blurbs on the back of books reveal so much of the story! I try not to read them, but sometimes it happens before I can stop it.

I reached the third act of this book and kind of lost interest. 🤭 There was a huge shift and I‘m sure it‘s going to get really good, but I am ready to move on. Do you ever feel like you‘ve been reading the same book for so long, you just want to be done with it?

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I remember that feeling with this book, the last section is so far ahead....think of it like the epilogue, afterwards short story, that focuses on how those people who made such desperate choices worked out and came back together eventually. I remember it as being fascinating once I got into it, but hard to start initially. 5y
TelevisionNeighbor @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I had to skim a little (a lot) to get through it. I liked the plot but the descriptions of everything in space put me to sleep! 5y

This was way more fun than reading the Odyssey. I wouldn‘t mind my own island with lions and wolves. Circe got on my nerves though. Definitely want to read the Song of Achilles sometime.

Also a story of compassion and brokenness. The way Bryan writes about how we‘re all connected through our brokenness is something I‘ll always remember. It‘s always alarming to see stats and dates that show how awful this country has been and in recent years. Not just way back in the history books.

Amiable Wonderfully written and very powerful 6y

I‘ve started this three times and think I finally found my rhythm. I was about to give up and then I read an article about the author‘s interview with Roxane Gay that made me keep going. I‘m in a non fantasy loving season of life, but this book is beautifully written. Also, it smells really good. 😂

Very short classic about race. This is the kind of thing that I wish was taught to me in high school. I think every classic novel we read was written by a white person. Plus, this is just over 100 pages long. Perfect for busy high schoolers!

After A Place For Us, I want to read everything out of SJP for Hogarth. I finished earlier today and I don‘t know how to rate it. It‘s so crushing. It‘s going to bother me for a while. It‘s a very fast read. I don‘t think I‘ve ever read about Trinidad before, so I feel like I‘ve learned something about that place through this novel.

I have a lot of new followers. I‘m probably a big disappointment, but thank you! Today is my birthday and I gave my two week notice to my current job. Kind of a wild day! This book is really good so far, I‘ve just had no time to read with all the changes happening in life.

These were both really weird and trippy. And you can read them in one sitting. One is fiction, one is non fiction. Fever Dream made me want to hug my child. I definitely recommend What We See When We Read to anyone who loves reading. Makes ya think about your brain and what‘s going on in there when you look at words on a page.

My favorite book of the year! This was all my wheelhouses in one. I am so glad Esi Edugyan is on my radar now. I have to read more of her work. This was such a great story. I don‘t want to give any of it away. It should be a movie. If you like the Ologies podcast, I recommend this book. I just finished it and can‘t stop gushing. There is one specific quote I wrote down and will have to think on it more later. Gah! The hype is real.

AmyG Mine, too! I just loved this story. It will make a great movie. (edited) 6y

I wanted to slow down my reading this year. This book certainly helped with that. It‘s nice to read about my home state although I‘m not familiar with the particular area the book was set in.

I grabbed this from a little lending library a while ago. I feel bad but it‘s just not for me. More and more I‘m finding fantasy isn‘t my genre unless it‘s the classics I grew up with. I‘m glad I can give it back the the lending library and someone else can enjoy it.

I have owned this for such a long time. I think I bought it in high school. I really wanted to start 2019 reading something by a woman but since I‘ve owned this for so long, I think it‘s a great way to start reading what I own. Also it‘s really funny. I haven‘t read Vonnegut in a long time. I missed him.

This is a stack of books I‘ve read in the past couple years that I want to go back to. I read them all from the library and then bought them later. Normally I don‘t circle back to something I have read before (unless it‘s Harry Potter) since there is so much new material to consume. But in 2019 I want to take my time and enjoy these again.

This may be the last book of 2018 for me. It was really entertaining, I‘m just becoming a fuddy duddy when it comes to fantasy lately. Pro tip: there is a glossary in the back. I found it quite useful for my slow holiday brain.

This was a beautiful book. I read it on the hoopla app, which is a great resource if you have a library card. This story contained so much, but I really like the passages on faith, how we use “God‘s will” to simplify complicated matters and use it to try to erase or ignore a lot of pain. There is so much I can‘t get into here, but please read this book if you haven‘t already!

#nonfictionnovember So my son started the morning early with a stomach bug, so I get to stay home today and read (and also take care of him, of course). I‘m taking this back to the library without finishing. I love it, but my library is charging me an insane amount of money and accusing me of damaging a book. I‘m done with them. I called and they just wanted to get me off the phone. I loved that library, so I‘m heartbroken. It sounds stupid, but I know you all will understand. Luckily, I have a small local library I can go to. Just sad about losing this other one. 😔

This is not the kind of book I ever enjoy. I would much rather read a non fiction book than historical fiction. Like I need to know way more about the Spanish flu. The ending was too neat for me. I‘m going to put it in a little lending library and hope it finds a good home.
