Happy Pride Month, Litsy! 💕📚🏳️‍🌈🎉

I'm SO excited to read as many new to me Queer books as possible this month!

The tagged book is special to me because it was the first book I read as a teen that featured a bi girl and made me realize that I wasn't alone! One of the reasons I became a librarian was to help create safe spaces for young people to be themselves and find books that can help empower/validate them! 💕 #PrideMonth #PrideMonth2021

Tonight was such a great night! 💕 In the donation bin at the library I found this book! This is the FIRST book I read as a teenager that featured a bisexual protagonist and a positive f/f romance! It was the FIRST book that made me feel like it was okay to be me, that I was not alone. 💖 I can't even describe how much this book helped me and I'm so glad to own a copy now, all these years later! 🏳️‍🌈

Books save lives. They really do! 📚💕

Branwen @MissAimz_55 I totally agree! It's such a beautiful thing! When I was a teen there were barely any lgbt books at all and now there are lots more, with more and more coming out each year! It makes me so happy! I'm so glad teens nowadays have lots of options with books that can help them feel safe and understood! 📚💕 5y

HOTPock3tt If ONLY I could‘ve read a book when I was a teenager to let me know it was ok that I was bisexual!!!! I grew up in a community where it was not ok to be anything but straight (don‘t we all?! 😓) some kids found out and I was picked on. I switched schools to escape it. I also grew up at a time when household computers weren‘t prevalent so I NEVER got to see representation of anyone bisexual like me. (edited) 5y

Branwen @HOTPock3tt Friend, first of all I just want to say that I'm so sorry you didn't get to see representations of yourself during your teen years. 😟 I feel you. I also grew up in a small town (which was also uber religious and close minded) where it was not okay to not be straight. I really don't know what I would have done if I hadn't discovered this book and a few others at the library. I wish you could have had that too! *hugs* 💕 5y

Tonight's meal pairing (inspired by @MrBook ) - oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes, peas, Chardonnay, and Empress of the World. All wonderfully delicious 😋 I clearly have a lot to learn about picture taking and food pairings, as I had a gorgeous, all encompassing picture that has now been cropped.

Loving this book about a bi summer romance, though!

Bookzombie If you are using an iPhone (I don't know about Android), you can set your camera to take a square picture and it's the same size as Litsy and Instagram. It helps with the cropping. 😁 8y

Agreed! I've always thought it a weird word and much prefer "queer" as it seems to encompass more (for me at least!). But it is nice to see bisexuality named and described openly and accurately in a book. ??

Yamich49 @saresmoore Right? We definitely have a lot of different labels we use and it's funny how they vary based on who you're talking to as well. I noticed when I was coming out to family members that it was a weird word and I felt weird saying it - that may have just been the scariness of coming out as well! 8y

saresmoore @Yamich49 Yes! Both my dad and my best friend identify (albeit loosely, since the term is so limiting) as bisexual. My dad has never actually called himself anything other than my dad, even though he's introduced me to each of his partners. My BFF just said, "Sar, I'm bi." My response was, "Sam, I know." So probably the scariness made it feel much weirder than it really was! 8y

I couldn't find a book in my collection with one of those typical #headlesscovers where you see a woman's whole body except her head. So instead, have a cover that is mostly just hands! Empress of the World is a gentle read about a girl who goes to a summer camp for academically smart teenagers and falls in love with another girl. I read it several years ago and enjoyed it a lot. #YA #LGBTQIA #LGBT #photoadaynov16
