I am in love with Ocean
lifting her thousands of white hats
in the chop of the storm,
or lying smooth and blue, the
loveliest bed in the world.
In the personal life, there is
always grief more than enough,
a heart-load for each of us
on the dusty road. I suppose
there is a reason for this, so I will be
patient, acquiescent. But I will live
nowhere except here, by Ocean, trusting
equally in all the blast and welcome
of her sorrowless, salt self.
pickThe imagery in Oliver's poetry is exquisite-- and at times. She is able to stop me in my tracks with just a sentence or two.
RIP. Oh, Mary, I hope you have lots of poetry in a drawer that we can keep reading for years. 😩😩😩
It's #myyearinbooks 😍 My shortest book was Red Bird by Mary Oliver and my longest book was a rereading of The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
This lovely book of poetry was my final read of 2017 - reaching my goal of 66 books!!! It's the most I've ever read in a year. Thanks Litsy for all the inspiration ❤️
