A shocking, heartbreaking story of taboo romance thats as compelling as it is controversial.Seventeen-year-old Lochan and sixteen-year-old Maya have always felt more like friends than siblings. Together they have stepped in for their alcoholic, wayward mother to take care of their three younger siblings. As de facto parents to the little ones, Lochan and Maya have had to grow up fast. And the stress of their livesand the way they understand each other so completelyhas also brought them closer than two siblings would ordinarily be. So close, in fact, that they have fallen in love. Their clandestine romance quickly blooms into deep, desperate love. They know their relationship is wrong and cannot possibly continue. And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right. As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain: A love this devastating has no happy ending.

She is only five, yet already she has learned that there is no point in askin her mother for a bedtime story, that inviting friends over is something only other children can do, that new toys are a rare luxury, that at home Kit and Tiffin are the only ones who get their own way. At the age of five she has already come to terms with one of life's harshest lessons: that the world isn't fair...

⭐️ If only I could give this less than one star! Not an enjoyable read at all! Not believable, whiny characters, didn‘t make anything but uncomfortable and oh yes, no way is this YA. With regards to a story about tragic incest, I‘d go back to Flowers in the Attic any day. Now that‘s a tragic more realistic story.

Hey y‘all!! Sorry for the inactivity lately! Life has been pretty crazy that I just didn‘t have time to sit down and update you guys. Now that it has been slower, I‘m looking forward to being back on here and giving you my opinion on the books I have read. Look forward to posts starting next week :) Here‘s a photo of my son, Barnabas Collins and I :)

Nothing better than a snow day. I read this riveting book in two sittings. It‘s the story of siblings who fall in love, which I know is all sorts of problematic, but Suzuma manages to make their story believable, beautiful and devastating. It‘s YA, and while I don‘t personally believe in trigger warnings, I would certainly be asking some questions before I lent it out to students.

Another controversial read. I‘m finding it hard to get through this one. Not because of the obvious reasons but because of the style of writing. I can‘t properly engage and I really want to know what happens but not through spoilers. I don‘t want to put it in the DNF pile, button it‘s getting there

I‘ve been curious about this one since its release. Curious if it was well written enough to convince me that a brother and sister could really fall in love due to their circumstances. In the end though, I didn‘t buy it. Interesting idea to get you thinking and pretty good writing but I wanted the author to convince me and she didn‘t.

I have to take a moment here to recommend that most heart wrenching books I have ever read. These books will make you feel things you never imagined you would. I read them back to back and both left me emotionally drained. The mark of a great book. They are beautiful, tragic taboo romances. Incest, abuse, neglect, obsession are the backdrop to these romances. Couldn't recommend them more.

Rcoco Sounds like VC Andrews reincarnated! 6y
LASluvesbooks I just read the synopsis for flawed...wow sounds good...🤓 6y
LadyRuthven @Rcoco Yes! They have the same feel as Flowers In The Attic. Love VC Andrews! 6y

LadyRuthven @LASluvesbooks I wish I could have tagged them both here. Flawed left me in tears. Its a heavy book for sure. So, so worth the read. 😀👍 6y

Whenever I try to rec this book to people, I‘m met with a lot of judgment. And, full disclosure, it is a book about an incestuous relationship between a brother and sister. But it‘s so beautifully written, incredibly heartbreaking, and so respectfully covers a controversial, taboo topic.

One of my favorite reads of the year and I cried through an entire box of tissues.

Cinfhen Wow!!! This is YA?!? Very Intense 😱I‘m intrigued... 6y
BookKenz I loved this book and I wasn't sure that I would. Curiosity about how the incestuous relationship would be handled had me picking it up, but wow. I was not prepared. So emotional. 😭❤️ 6y

I actually read this book four years ago and I really enjoyed it. I've been thinking of picking it up again. I think the author does a great job of making the reader feel sick about the incest but also sympathize with the two characters because of their situation.

I allow myself to be suckered into stuff Iike this and am never sure why. I read and was titillated by V.C. Andrews when I was a teen, but this kind of story no longer has shock value. An big ho-hum.

BookMaven9 I‘m about to review this one. Feel the same way about it. I read flowers as a young adult, but I think that one was done waaaay better. 2y

Warning: this book deals with very taboo subject matter.

This book destroyed me. Out of all the books I've read this one still sticks out like a sore thumb in my mind. The main characters stole my heart, then crushed it with their story. Be prepared to cry.

MissCarrieLou I cried like a baby after I read this!!!!! 8y
heyitstay @MissCarrieLou me too. I figured out what was going to happen right before it did, and I had to set it down for a week to mentally prepare myself 8y
