So, now that Game of Thrones is done, I think now would be the perfect time to make Dragonriders of Pern the next big series. It has something for everyone and it's an amazingly detailed world. Tons of material to work with. I love this book series. Just my recommendation for a new series to fall in love with.

Got my January Gothic fiction novel done. It's interesting. There were times when it had an almost Monty Python vibe. Lol Overall it was pretty good. Alfonso was badass too. Theodore and Matilda, I loved. My heart!

Velvetfur Oohh I read that when I was at high school! I remember that I loved it but can't remember anything about it, apart from a metal helmet that goes round killing people.... Is that correct?! 6y
Daisey Interesting! This is on my Serial Reader to read list 6y
LadyRuthven @Velvetfur well, the helmet kills the son of the ruler, which was quite comical really. The whole giant knights armor thing in this story is pretty funny to me. Lol 6y

New Years Resolution: Read Gothic fiction (at least 1 book a month) in chronological order.

I found an interesting article about gothic fiction and its history and thought it would be fun to read these novels in the order they were written so that I can really see the evolution of gothic fiction. Some I've read before, others I have not. Should be pretty fun, I think.

This turned out to be a really fun book to read. It was free on Google Books, so I thought, why not, and gave it a chance.

It's a reverse harem (1 female, several males) romance set in an alien world. The characters are engaging and the world building is well done. I actually can't wait to read the next book.

Just started this alternative reality series. It's really good so far. I was up for some different that my usual MO and this has really hit the spot. It's not a romance, but instead its a very good scifi/fantasy trilogy.

What if the Roman Empire never fell? What if the Roman's had discovered America first? In 1218 with the Norsemen. These are the questions that drove this story. So fascinating! Definitely recommend.

Speak of Mary Shelley...I finished this one on #serialreader and it was so good. This book was banned from the moment it was published and stayed that way until the 1950s. Its about the forbbiden love of a father and daughter and all the doom it brings. Some have said that this book was really about Mary Shelley and her father but there is no real evidence of that. Anyway, definitely recommend.

Clare-Dragonfly Wow! This sounds almost as good as Frankenstein and much better than The Last Man. I'll have to check it out. 7y

I just finshed my first book on #serialreader. This was little sci-fy written in the 50s. While I found the concept of the story and the ideals of humanity needing to come together for the good of all great, the actual writing was bad. It read like a first draft and if the author had taken the time to really fix up the writing it would have been great. So, its a thumbs down just for that unfortunately. And I couldn't find the book on here so...

LadyRuthven @awishman Seriously! The intense emotion of their scenes had me almost in tears. I found myself routing for Kylo Ren towards the end. Haha I'm going to be devastated if he dies in the last movie. Adam is so hot and amazing in his acting ability. He's going to have a long career ahead of him. 7y

LadyRuthven @Valeka Sploosh!!! Be still my heart. And that scar made him even hotter. :D 7y
Andrea4 I agree with all comments on Driver. I also really loved the scenes just with Rey; the shot where she is practicing alone made me tear up because I thought damn, I wanna be her and then I realised when I was a kid I didn't have any girl role models like that- I think that's why I loved Karate Kid 3(?) so much, cuz the chick was a bad ass! 7y
LadyRuthven @Andrea4 Yes, that's how I felt growing up too. There just weren't that many girl heroes as the main character back then. Plenty of sidekicks though. I wanted to be a Jedi also so Rey really has a special place in my heart. And she is so powerful too. My heart broke for her lonliness and I did tear up when Kylo Ren extended his hand to her and said what he said. Such a powerful scene as well as the cave scene. 7y
GrilledCheeseSamurai I loved everything about this movie and can't stop thinking about. And how about Luke Skywalker, hey? So, so good! 🙌🙌🙌 7y

Well, this is the book that started it all. Before Dracula, Varney, before Louis and Lestat, before Buffy, Twilight and all the rest. This book was the very first vampire story ever made.

It was created along side Frankenstein on the same day. The history of the book is just as interesting as the book.

A must read for all vampire lovers.

"It's what we are."

For some reason this part really struck me. John was talking with a gambler he had just arrested and was trying to understand why the guy couldn't just made money the legal way. What a profound moment and the kick start of John wanting to know why. Just fascinating.

I really must give a shout out to the BDSM Community on Reddit for this gem. This book and series is always at the top of their list when asked about what fiction books represent #BDSM correctly.

And it really does. I am loving it so much. I'm almost to the end and can't wait to buy the rest of the series. Its a great look into the lifestyle and living out a darker fantasy.

I definitely recommend this book. :) #darkerotica #romantsy

I just had to pick this book up after binging the Netflix series. I'm on chapter 4 and I have to say I am enjoying it. John, like Holden (who is based off him), is engaging and empathic. I will say there is an arrogance to his writing which causes me to roll my eyes at times but despite that its rather enjoyable. Holden was like that too though so... I can't wait to read more.

BarbaraTheBibliophage I started this a couple of days ago as well. Took the book out from the library after watching the series, which I loved! 7y
LadyRuthven The show was amazing! I have always enjoyed criminal psychology and been fascinated by serial killers and too the origin story of how it all came about was brilliant. I am still enjoying the book. He's an interesting guy himself. I'll probably pick up he others after this one. 7y
craftyreader I had a chance to hear John Douglas speak at our local university back when his book first came out. Fascinating! 7y
LadyRuthven @craftyreader That would be so awesome to hear him speak! Lucky you. He seems like a pretty approachable person. 7y

I got the ebook on a whim when I saw it was free and I quickly devoured it and the rest. It was worth it! #timetravelromance

Its the American version of Outlander and its fantastic! Can not recommend it enough. 1600's Jamestown, Native American side of history, A modern woman taken back in time and Vikings. What more could you ask for! A beautiful romance and a historically accurate tale. This series and its spin offs are all great reads.

This series was my introduction to #darkerotica genre and it ended up being the perfect series to start my dark, twisted love story addiction.

Never before had a character (Tess) spoke to my deeper needs and illuminated all those repressed desires I had.

Q is truly the perfect anti-hero. Intense, scary, feirce and broken. If I was a Disney princess, he would be my prince for sure. :D

This series has always been my favorite dark erotica.
