Nothing makes me happier than a new book from Joanna Shupe!Sarah MacLean High society reprobate. An unconventional heiress. Childhood friends. Is it too late... Knickerbocker scoundrel Harrison Archer returns to New York to discover that his deceased father has bankrupted his estranged family. To save them from ruin, hes forced to quickly find and marry an heiress. For a matchmaker, Harrison turns to the one woman he wishes he could marry: his childhood friend and true love, Maddie, who once broke his heart and is now engaged to a duke. For true love? When her best friend Harrison left for Paris without a word, Maddie Webster took refuge in her infatuation with tennis. Now Harrison is back and needs her help in finding a bride. Begrudgingly, Maddie arranges a house party in Newport with a guest list of eligible heiresses. But watching Harrison flirt with potential brides is more than she can bear. When Harrison and Maddie reunite, the passion between them ignites. But with their marriages to others looming, time is running out. Is their fate inescapable . . .or can love set them free?

Mehso-so

Sadly this was a very meh historical romance. A story of childhood friends who lose touch and reconnect (very loose avoiding spoilers). Why this is disappointing is my biggest problem w/some romances. Which is when the entire conflict could be solved by a short conversation. So frustrating. I do like that this takes place in the gilded age America, and I‘ve heard this series gets much better, so I will probably continue. 2.5⭐️

Y'all. I get the Joanna Shupe hype now. I'm no Gilded Age expert, but the period FELT right, and all the characters were so well-drawn. And Harrison and Maddie's steamy moments! Whew! #historicalromance

I liked couple secondary characters more than the main characters. I liked to read about Maddie playing tennis, that was an interesting thing and made me to think how some things has changed.

I was a bit disappointed how this could have given an amazing atmosphere thinking about the era but details weren't really given about surroundings.

This was my first Joanna Shupe. I really enjoyed the setting (US Gilded Age) and the fact that the female protagonist is a serious competition tennis player.

It was a little on the serious side for me. I think I might be craving a little more light-heartedness like Julia Quinn or Eloisa James.

robinb I don‘t think I‘ve read her before…hmmm. BTW, have you read any Kerrigan Byrne? I just discovered her recently and she‘s great! 3y
ScientistSam @robinb I have not I don't think. I'll have to check out her books. Thanks for the recommendation! 3y

I'm not going to lie, this may be my least favorite Shupe I‘ve read. Harrison and Maddie were often frustrating to me. It defintely picked up steam for me in the second half, but there was also constant miscommunication/deception that was hard for me. BUT it should be noted Shupe is super talented and it didn't evoke more visceral frustration largely due to her talent. AND I can see the threads of the next books that I am very much excited about.

Delightful though predictable, this historical has a premise pretty similar to the Bachelor and hijinks ensue. Perfect way to unwind and escape during a busy work time. #BookspinBingo #MarvellousMarch @TheAromaofBooks @Andrew65

Joanna Shupe does it again! This is the first book in a new series and I loved the main characters, Maddie and Harrison, but the secondary characters also have me excited about where this series will go next.

The old New York and Newport settings were a fantastic backdrop to this friends to lovers romance.

mdemanatee This is fantastic news! I‘m excited but was, admittedly, hesitant to leave the city. 3y
