Death in the Family
Death in the Family | Tessa Wegert

A storm-struck island. A blood-soaked bed. A missing man. In this captivating mystery that's perfect for fans of Knives Out, Senior Investigator Shana Merchant discovers that murder is a family affair. Thirteen months ago, former NYPD detective Shana Merchant barely survived being abducted by a serial killer. Now hoping to leave grisly murder cases behind, she's taken a job in her fianc's sleepy hometown in the Thousand Islands region of Upstate New York. But as a nor'easter bears down on her new territory, Shana and fellow investigator Tim Wellington receive a call about a man missing on a private island. Shana and Tim travel to the isolated island owned by the wealthy Sinclair family to question the witnesses. They arrive to find blood on the scene and a house full of Sinclair family and friends on edge. While Tim guesses they're dealing with a runaway case, Shana is convinced that they have a murder on their hands. As the gale intensifies outside, she starts conducting interviews and discovers the Sinclairs and their guests are crawling with dark and dangerous secrets. Trapped on the island by the raging storm with only Tim whose reliability is thrown into question, the increasingly restless suspects, and her own trauma-fueled flashbacks for company, Shana will have to trust the one person her abduction destroyed her faith in--herself. But time is ticking down, because if Shana's right, a killer is in their midst and as the pressure mounts, so do the odds that they'll strike again.

Vibes of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. Interesting mystery and characters. The first half.of the book I was a bit frustrated as the main characters past is referenced a lot but details are not revealed. The second half.of the book some of those details are revealed and I could not put the book down.

HappilyEverKrafter I also loved it and can‘t wait for the next one! 4y
robinb @HappilyEverKrafter 😂😂I‘ve already plowed through it and it was great as well! 👍 4y
robinb Creepy, suspenseful locked-door whodunit focusing on a wealthy family who have gathered on their private island on the Saint Lawrence River. Detectives Shana Merchant and Tim Wellington are called out for a missing person/murder investigation during a nor‘easter. 🔻 (edited) 4y
robinb Shana has recently joined the force after being kidnapped/terrorized by a serial killer in NY.

The writing and plot are excellent. My only complaint is the drama of/number of times Shana becomes lost in her memories...a bit over-the-top maybe. I intend to stick with this series. 4.25/5⭐️

Thanks for the tag @Crazeedi 💕

1. Try to get my new year‘s goals off and running. 2021 has started off sluggish for me. 🙄😂🤷🏻‍♀️

2. Having several hours on Saturday with BOTH my kiddos home...a rare occurrence unfortunately.

Want to play @Texreader @sharread @squirrelbrain ?

#MotivationalMonday

Cupcake12 @robinb Good luck with the running and your goals. That‘s so nice that you got to spend time with your children. Thank you for playing x 4y

I enjoyed this! A "locked room" mystery in which the police are called to an island during a storm to investigate a missing family member- and all the other family members are suspects. Shana Merchant tries to solve this case while dealing with her traumatic past as an NYPD detective. Loved the setting- it definitely added to the tension of the story. Looking forward to the next book in the series! 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I'm fairly new to the locked-room type of mystery...and it ultimately makes me think of the game Clue...this story really reminded me of playing that game as a kid. Except these people are family. Plenty of secrets, lies, and betrayals in this family drama...also a promising start to a new series.

I wasn‘t sure about this but I‘m glad I stuck with it. Picked it up for its Agatha Christie ‘And Then There We‘re None‘ vibes. Atmospheric and full of unlikeable characters this was a fun whodunnit. Not sure I bought into the ‘who‘ and ‘why‘ of the ultimate solution but it was fun trying to figure it out alongside the MC. Very quick read and I‘m interested to see what happens to the MC next.

It's a variation of a locked room mystery: An isolated mansion. A private island. A stormy night. A wealthy family has gathered. Shana and Tim, newish partners, are called to investigate. They take a look at the blood soaked bed and think: J isn't missing ... he's dead. With plenty of suspects, this was reminiscent of Agatha Christie. When Shana and Tim are cut off from their team and there's a scream ... the pages practically flip themselves.

I really enjoyed this mystery! A rich family on a secluded island, reminded me a bit of the movie Knives Out, but this was definitely not a comedy. I look forward the the second in the series when it comes out!

The second half of March was weird, like it was for most of us. Though I have over 100 books sitting on my bookshelves waiting to be read, I only read 2 which brings up my total for the month to 8. Usually read 12-14 per month. The last book I read, The Girl in the Spider's Web took me from the 19th to the 30th!! Not because it was a bad book, in fact I really enjoyed it, just had no desire to read.

Putting my other book on hold because this library-hold came in today. I always feel guilty for making others wait, and this has only one copy at the library... hence why I‘m going to read it first.

The mystery was classic! A group of individuals are on an island where a grisly murder seems to have taken place. Mysteriously, there is no body but plenty of evidence. As the storm rages the fear rises as it becomes clear that there is a killer lurking among them. Once you started peeling back the layers, all the characters on the island seemed to have a motive for murder and I was kept guessing at who was responsible for quite some time.

Crazeedi Nice review 5y
