All Stirred Up: A Novel | Brianne Moore
12 posts | 9 read | 9 to read
Inspired by Jane Austen's Persuasion. She returned to save her family's dying legacy--but found the ghosts of her past alive and well. Susan Napier's family once lived on the success of the high-end restaurants founded by her late grandfather. But bad luck and worse management has brought the business to the edge of financial ruin. Now it's up to Susan to save the last remaining restaurant: Elliot's, the flagship in Edinburgh. But what awaits Susan in the charming city of Auld Reekie is more than she bargained for. Chris Baker, her grandfather's former protg--and her ex-boyfriend--is also heading to the Scottish capital. After finding fame in New York as a chef and judge of a popular TV cooking competition, Chris is returning to his native Scotland to open his own restaurant. Although the storms have cleared after their intense and rocky breakup, Susan and Chris are re-drawn into each other's orbit--and their simmering attraction inevitably boils over. As Chris's restaurant opens to great acclaim and Susan tries to haul Elliot's back from the brink, the future brims with new promise. But darkness looms as they find themselves in the crosshairs of a gossip blogger eager for a juicy story--and willing to do anything to get it. Can Susan and Chris reclaim their lost love, or will the tangled past ruin their last hope for happiness?

This was the perfect adaptation to kick off a month of Persuasion-adjacent reads! I loved the two leads, particularly Chris, our Wentworth, and the Edinburgh setting was an absolute dream. Fun and sweet and set in my favorite city? I'm sure I'll be re-reading this one many times. #PemberLittens

#PemberLittens Modern Day Retelling. Listened to Audiobook and Narrator is perfection. Gave me lovely flashbacks to my visit to Edinburgh and made me very hungry. And I have an overwhelming desire to bake.🎧📖🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🍞👩🏻‍🍳

@sprainedbrain #pagesofpersuasion

Crinoline_Laphroaig Several negative reviews on Goodreads saying it doesn't have enough romance. I don't think those people grasp that original Persuasion is a quiet read. Having just read I know most of the romance happens off the page and there's a lot of family drama. I think Author did a really good job of modern day retelling. 3y
TheBookHippie Thanks for the recommendation. 3y

#Pemberlittens @sprainedbrain already started Retellings. Modern Day Edinburgh Restaurant Setting. ? Fiesty young woman chef side character

"no more names that you pretend to think are cute and funny but that we all know are incredibly shitty. If I hear anyone throwing around racial or ethnic or sexist slurs, there will be consequences. And those consequences may or may not include me pinning your willie to that bulletin board." ???????

A modern day Persuasion retelling featuring competing chefs and Edinburgh.
Susan Napier is fighting hard to save her grandfather's restaurant after her family's poor business decisions. But she wasn't expecting competition from her old flame turned celebrity chef Chris Baker, who still bears a grudge about their break-up a decade ago...
I enjoyed this, but know going in that it takes a lot of pages for the hostility between leads to ebb.

CaramelLunacy I also think the cover makes this look like a light and fluffy romcom, but the emotional beats track Persuasion pretty closely so it deals with some pretty dramatic stuff. 3y

Felt like today was a good audiobook and project day. 😅 As you can see it‘s been too long since my last closet clear out. I have my coffee brewed, lunch and dinner planned out and my audiobook playing in the background. It‘s time to tackle this embarrassing stack of clothing. At least the cats are enjoying themselves. 🙈

TheLibrarian I did this last year and got rid of so many items. Sadly I still have a ridiculous amount of clothes. Good luck! 4y
Mrs_B Good luck! Also keep that dress it's really pretty!!! 4y
lil1inblue Is that a Night at the Roxbury shirt? Because I love it. It was the first movie my husband and I watched “together” (we watched it simultaneously while on the phone). We have so many inside jokes related to this movie!!! 🤣🤣🤣 4y

Leftcoastzen Cats love a good sort mess!😻 4y
Clwojick @TheLibrarian I normally do it twice a year, since I tend to go to a lot of $1,$2, $3 sale days at the thrift store 😅 But as we all know 2020 was a weird year, so I didn‘t rotate my closet, and I basically forgot about all but 30 articles of clothing. 4y
marleed Good luck - have fun going down the memory lane your stack of clothing takes you on. 4y
Clwojick @lil1inblue IT IS! It‘s a pullover hoodie and I wear it every week! A Night of the Roxbury is my favourite movie, and I‘m obsessed with it. Like to the point where I used the cover of What Is Love by Jaymes Young for my Bride and Brother dance at my wedding. My brother gave me away, and I‘m so grateful we have the same amazing taste in movies. He loved it as much as I did. 😂 4y
Clwojick @lil1inblue the lyrics are kinda weird for a siblings, but our love for the movie over looked it 😂 4y
TheLibrarian @Clwojick Hahaha right? I ordered new clothes and am so confused why. I‘ve been wearing the same sweater for 3 days 🤦🏼‍♀️ the joys of working at home. 🤣 4y

I thought this would be a light fun rom com. To me it was a family drama that I was just not interested in. The family restaurant is going under and only one daughter can save. But a former staff member, now world renowned chef is moving in and opening a restaurant down the street. The set up is there, I just didn‘t care. I just found myself not caring if I finished the book, so I didn't.

ShananigansReads Oh no. I put this to the side because I had just finished Recipe for Persuasion and it seemed too similar. 4y

All Stirred Up by Brianne Moore is a cute second chance romance.

All Stirred Up is a really cute second chance romance. It is lighthearted and was nice to read between all the heavy books I‘ve been reading. As the story progresses you hear more about the past as well as the present.

Thank you NetGalley and Alcove Press/Dreamscape Audio.

October's Baecrate showed up today. The featured book is a modern re-telling of Austen's Persuasion. And it included a Baecrate exclusive edition of Persuasion.😍
