Interesting setting (1400s, what is now Korea), but I just never really got caught up in the story. The main character was supposed to be good at detecting but kind of just blundered around accusing everyone.

Finished this one last week. There were elements of it I enjoyed, but overall, I had a hard time getting into it, and didn't care much about the outcome of the "mystery. #Bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

What a fantastic mystery! Lots of history that was new to me, but without it feeling like a lesson, more just excellent world-building. The characters felt real and authentic, and there were plenty of satisfying twists and turns in the plot. A delight to read.

I wasn‘t sure going in to this one, but I ended up liking it quite a lot. The true parts of the history behind it were sad, and I had never heard about it!

I don‘t usually like YA but this was so interesting. A mystery and historical fiction with no romance 🥳🤩 finally! I love when women can just have their own stories. It was an interesting book and the relationship between the MC and her sister was satisfying to see progress. In a nutshell, a good mystery set in a time period and place that‘s overlooked. Recommend 👍🏽

I just couldn‘t take it — and it‘s probably my own fault because I should know better than to try to read YA. I don‘t enjoy them anymore but I was won over by the excellent reviews, different setting and gorgeous cover. I feel like I shouldn‘t even review this because I‘m not the audience for this book. I found it long and drawn out and boring. Though did enjoy the 1400s Korea setting. A true case of “”it‘s not you, it‘s me”.

Sisters in Joseon-era Korea investigate their detective father's disappearance and a slew of missing girls in this evocative historical thriller. Engaging and full of so many fascinating historical details. Definitely has me eager to read Hur's first book, The Silence of Bones, even sooner now. And decidedly one of the most beautiful covers I've ever seen.
