This series is my happy reading place right now. These books are impossible to put down. Krueger is masterful at building tension, at putting his characters in high stakes situations where not everyone makes it out while those that do, more often than not, do so in believable ways. As always, the mystery itself is compelling but it is the characters themselves that keep you turning the pages. Another really good book in the Cork O‘Conner series.

Anna40 Which of his books would you say should someone new to the author start with? 3w
TracyReadsBooks @Anna40 sorry for my tardy response! I‘ve read the series in order from the beginning which I‘ve really enjoyed because of the development of the recurring characters from book to book. That being said, the first book is good but not my favorite so if you start there, I‘d read a couple of more to get a real sense of the series. If you just want to see what the series is all about, try Boundary Waters or Heaven‘s Keep. Writing is always excellent. 3w
Anna40 Great! Thanks so much! 3w

Another in the series. I found this one interesting because I moved to the area right after this story was set. There was a bad wind storm in the boundary waters of northern Minnesota and it was a central part of this story. This one was different than the others in the series but still the same. I‘m back in grad school now so I expect I will read more for school and less for fun.

A fierce and dark storm is a battle for survival for the O‘Connors, during a houseboat vacation on the remote Lake of the Woods. But what looms even darker and more violent are a group of Northwest Angle residents who feed on evil 👿…

Another Cork O‘Connor book that I liked. My one issue with Krueger is that I wish he‘d write his women better. Even when they‘re involved in the problem, they end up doing stereotypical things. A fight coming up? Rose stays home and cooks; Annie stays to help her. Jenny sees a baby & wants to keep it. Sigh. The 15 year-old Stephen? He‘s in the middle of the fight with the rest of the men. Started Last Call at the Nightingale. #audiowalk

The temperature is lower than it has been (89° as opposed to in the high 90s) but it still was a bit uncomfortable out there because there‘s not a lot of air moving around. While I‘m liking this book, Krueger really did not need to let a character spend more than 5 minutes on a religious speech in order to show that he was an “the End Times are here now” person. Ugh. #audiobook

Cork takes his whole family on vacation at a remote lake, so, of course, there‘s a horrific storm and a dead body. Interested to see how this plays out. After 400 miles on my shoes, I had to get a new pair today. They‘re a different brand, so I hope they work out. They were fine for my 1 mile walk, so we‘ll see how it goes. #audiowalk

William Kent Krueger is another of my favorite authors. His mystery series is set in the #north woods of Minnesota and should be read in order. His protagonist is Cork O‘Connor, the former sheriff of Tamarack County and a man of mixed heritage - part Irish and part Ojibwa. His stand-alone novel “Ordinary Grace” in 2013 won Edgar Award for best novel of the year. An excellent writer not to be missed.

LauraBrook One of my clients was just telling me about this series - she said it didn‘t matter if they were read in order or not! I gasped and said “what?!?!!????”, and she just shrugged and asked if it ever matters. 😳 Ummm YYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS IT MATTERS!!!!! Phew! Glad to see someone else recommend this series and that they Should be read In Order. Uffda! 6y
EadieB @LauraBrook It does matter because the kids get older, relationships change, references are made to things that happened before. I‘m a stickler for reading in order. 6y
