Eight books in & this series is as strong—and as impossible to put down—as ever. Besides always adding depth & nuance to what we know about recurring characters with each installment while always introducing fully fleshed out new characters, one of the strengths of this series is its ongoing exploration of the difference/overlap between the law and justice. Things are seldom black & white & the stories are the stronger for it. Great read.

Finished another in the long series. I am personally enjoying a slower pace this summer and reading for pleasure. These stories are good—captivating. They are all similar but each different too. This one deviated a little within the main characters moral compass. Interesting to see how that will develop. Book ended with an unexpected storyline—tragic and thought provoking.

This is not just a book. It‘s a lesson, to learn and grow. It‘s full of humanity that when the realization of the final pages hit me, that I let out and audible gasp and said to myself “Oh no.” I‘ve grown to love and appreciate the characters major and minor, that are written into the books by Mr. Kent Krueger. 5⭐️

With each Cork O‘Connor novel, I think “this was the BEST” but I‘ve decided they are all amazing! Beautiful writing, settings, all the emotions. This is the 8th of 19 in the series

Holy cow! I sent a message to the author William Kent Kreuger saying how much I enjoyed this book and that I appreciated the way he approached gun violence. He replied!!!! I was already a fan girl but this just kicked it up another knotch.

I so enjoy this series. Each book has its own unique mystery while continuing the development of the characters in the town. The ending of this one was a hard listen but it contained an important message.

Mehso-so

I like this series, but this particular installment ended in a way I think was totally unnecessary. (I‘ll put it in comments below as a spoiler.)

Bookwormjillk It ended with a school shooting that was not part of the main story at all. 2y

TheAromaofBooks I hate it when the way a book ends changes my feelings about the story as a whole. 😕 2y

Bookwormjillk @TheAromaofBooks yes, and it didn‘t have anything to do with the rest of the book. 2y

I liked the main story, but the subplot that comes to the fore in the last few chapters was completely unnecessary. You know it‘s coming; the clues are obvious, but it wasn‘t needed. I started Heaven‘s Keep on my walk today. Cork is outside of Minnesota in the Absaroka mountains in Wyoming. That location made me want an appearance by Walt Longmire. They have a lot in common. #audiowalk

I haven‘t been able to get out and walk for the last two days because of my back. I‘m still babying it, but I was able to walk today. It was lovely. #audiowalk

If I were Jo, I‘d divorce Cork. He puts both her and their kids in danger too much — not intentionally, but still. Their little boy, Stevie, is only 10 and he saw his father shot when he was 5, was kidnapped at 7, and almost shot a couple of times. Despite the fact that I don‘t like gang stories usually, I am liking this book so far. That turtle is longer and narrower than most of the ones I see in the park. #audiowalk

Bookwormjillk This is an old post, but yes! I would divorce him too! 2y

New Cork O‘Connor for walking. This boy is Ferguson; he was found in a Target parking lot. We agreed to foster him, but we kind of love him, and his adoption fell through, so now he‘s ours. #audiowalk

Enjoying this book! I was diagnosed with cellulitis (infection of the skin) from a bug bite yesterday so I am spending today on the couch reading!

Megabooks Oh dear! I'm sorry. That can be very painful. Good thoughts for a speedy recovery! 8y
