Yes, the writing is great, setting fantastic, mystery compelling—the seventh Cork O‘Connor book is every bit as good as the first six. Maybe even better. What really makes this one work is learning more about Henry Meloux, Cork‘s spiritual advisor. Henry has never really asked Cork for anything but when he winds up in the hospital, he asks Cork to find the son he never met before it‘s too late. And that‘s just the beginning…Impossible to put down.

Another part of the larger series. The story is deviating from the earlier norm but it was a good one. I enjoyed learning more about some growing characters. It wrapped up well and I will keep on in the series.

Book 7 - Cork O‘Connor mysteries! Cork gave up his sheriff job and became a private investigator. His first case is finding Ojibwe medicine man Henry Maloux‘s long lost son across the Canadian border.

Blueberry Henry is my favorite character 🤎 2y
Clwojick Looks like it‘s set in my city of Thunder Bay, Ontario.❤️ It‘s so rare to find nonfiction books set here - though I really enjoyed 2y
Eggs @Blueberry I agrée - love Henry 2y

Eggs @Clwojick A dramatic backdrop for a mystery! The cold is intimidating to me; I was born in and lived in Minnesota for 28 years 🥶🥶 2y
Clwojick @Eggs Tell me about it! We just had another week of -40 weather. We get at least one or two stretches of that each year. I hate it! I love our fall weather, but our winters are gross. 2y
Eggs @Clwojick yes and some years it‘s like 3 seasons -June, July, and Winter ❄️ 2y

I worked my way through 6 of the books in Cork O‘Connor series last year. I enjoyed reading each and every one of them, including this. A lot has changed for Cork but he‘s still a great fictional figure I‘d like to wish were real. I think the man and his family could teach me a lot.

#serieslove2023 This series is getting better and better! I like how the setting and characters are different from all the other series I read. This time an old friend of Cork wants to meet his son, a son he‘s never met. Doesn‘t sound like a big thing to track him down, but turns out it‘s deadly. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Andrew65 Making good progress with this one. Well done 👏👏👏 2y

I took advantage of this rainy day to read the next Cork O‘Connor book. In this one we travel to Canada and learned more about Henry‘s past.

This was an odd one; the shifts in pov were jarring. Also Cork has a family issue that I don‘t think even needed to be part of the story. It was so great to know more about Henry Meloux‘s background though; he‘s always been an interesting character. When I finished it, I started Finley Donovan is Killing It. Lovely day outside. I‘m not sure why I only took one pic. #audiowalk

Another book where Cork takes a back seat although he is present. Part 1 is told by Cork in the first person — not usual in this series. Part 2 is Henry Meloux‘s story, told in 3rd person. Henry is an old Ojibwe friend of Cork, who has appeared in most of the previous books. The animals were out in force today. I saw between 10-15 lizards on my walk. #audiowalk
