Wow! That felt like a marathon. Would most probably put it somewhere between so so and a pick. Quite a complex story, that related to events in the past. Really felt the book was too long, and at times could have been more on topic. A fair amount of surplus detail that wasn‘t needed. This ended on a cliff hanger and a tragic end for one of the characters in this story. #NordicNoir

EadieB @Andrew65 Not liking the characters can definitely make the story feel like a trudge. By the way, do you have any idea what book or books we are going to read with the group on LT for August as I‘m making up my TBR for August. 4y

EadieB @Andrew65 Glad to see you are moving along on these #NordicNoir. Moving along with downsizing my library. I met someone who lost all their books in a flooded basement. He came over to my house and I moved a lot of boxes of books outside and he took home about 250 books. I'm going to call him again after I go through some more books and let him pick through some more boxes. I told him he could have them for free but he insisted and gave me $40.00. 4y

EadieB @Andrew65 Yes he was thrilled to get some books to read. He‘s had a very trying upbringing (homeschooled and his parents belonged to a Christian type cult) so he never socialized much and his books were his escape so he was very happy to get some books back on his shelves. Great to see you are on holiday and getting a lot of reading done. 4y

Andrew65 @EadieB Did wonder if we‘d ever get to this point. Am getting a lot of reading done, but struggling to get in a reading flow after everything. We are in Scotland but having to do some things differently, like shopping, and usually we do some Fish and chips, but choosing not to do take aways. Scotland safer as in highlands recently only been about 1 new confirmed case each week. (edited) 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 That's great that Scotland is so safe and 1 new confirmed case each week is quite low and nothing to be too worried about. Probably better that you are able to spend time more time outside when the weather is good at least. I think we are all hoping to get back to normal and this covid living is for the birds. I have been using the time in order to get my house and books back in order. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB The past five months are so surreal, now we need to somehow find a way forward safely, would help if everyone respected the virus and took it seriously by ensuring social distancing wherever possible. We are all holding out for a vaccine. 1 case in the whole of the highlands is almost non existent, long may that last. 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 They never tested the vaccine on animals and skipped that step. I might not be the first in line and may wait to make sure it‘s safe. My daughter is also scaring me as she thinks is will have a tracking device and will change people DNA. I really worry about her as she just seems so paranoid and she doesn‘t speak nice to me at all. I honestly don‘t know what I have ever done to her to be treated this way. Hopefully things will get better 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB These conspiracy theories amaze me. Why do they need to chip us, we all carry phones that do that job quite nicely! These theories do target the vulnerable. It must seem like a nightmare to have her back in the household if she is treating you that way. I think the Oxford Vaccine has been tested on animals but may be wrong about that. Sending positive thoughts. (edited) 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 Just checked about the Oxford vaccine. In May it was tested on monkeys, but the shot could not protect the animals from contracting the novel coronavirus. Hopefully, they will get better results soon. 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB I am confident eventually we will have a working vaccine as necessity is the mother of invention. I admire those people who have volunteered for the trial for these vaccines around the world. We will eventually have a working vaccine just a matter of when - next year, the year after? Etc. 4y

Tove_Reads You‘ll be speed reading now, so you‘ll catch up! I just finished reading a bunch of books, went to the library and now I have more than 20 books on my nightstand again. Too many books, too little time. 4y
Crazeedi @EadieB you know about my girls and me Eadie, it's so sad. They think so differently. I will be passing on vaccine too, I think they may be rushing things. Not sure. But I read about the vaccine they developed for scare in the 70s that ended up a disaster, several people developed Guillaine Barre syndrome 4y
EadieB @Crazeedi I think I will just wait and see if the vaccine has any bad affects too. Mothers and daughters can be real problems when thrown together. I don't have a problem with my youngest daughter but she wouldn't tell me if she did have a problem with me. She also has a problem with her sister so I really don't think I am the problem. She said Meredith just wants everyone to agree with her point of view and if you don't agree you have a problem. (edited) 4y

Holy Cliffhanger, Batman!

I love this series. I have a thing for Scandinavian mysteries anyway, but these are especially good. This is the sixth installment. Start with The Ice Princess if you're interested.

Butterfinger I think so. She became more of a supporting character to Patrick. I liked the Ice Princess because of Erica. They need to just hire a nanny and let her be his equal. 4y

AnneCecilie In the first book and previous one, Erica had a more active part in solving the books. During the first pregnancy, she stepped back and it was all about the maternity leave, and in a crime series that gets a little boring. I like Erica when she‘s in the action. @Butterfinger @EadieB @Tove_Reads 4y

Butterfinger I liked it. I liked how Erica was still prominent in solving the mystery and not passive as she was when pregnant with Maja. 4y

Butterfinger I wonder if it is possible in real life. The men never associated with Christian except that one night. I could see why they didn't recognize him. It just goes to show - never trust a person who is not willing to discuss the past. I really don't know. I'm a secretive person till I know I can trust. 4y

AnneCecilie I guess people see what they want to see, and love makes blind. And when his wife started to snoop, she didn‘t look for two personalities, but an affair. The trio doesn‘t seem like a group of people that would care enough to ask too many questions. As kids I don‘t think they saw Christian but his fat, so when he comes back slim in adult life he‘s someone else. @Butterfinger @EadieB @Tove_Reads 4y

Butterfinger I honestly thought that the letters were from a woman. It was very eery when she entered the house to leave the letter. 4y

I thought the concept was very clever in this novel. This series was my first #NordicNoir and I continue to favor it over others. I cannot believe the ending and will not be able to wait till next month to read the next.

Christian comes out with his debut novel, and everything turns up and down. His friend is found murdered. Christian and two of his friends receive threatening letters. No one knows anything about C's background, not even his wife. C's book gets praises, but he becomes weirder and weirder. A tough case for the police to solve. I enjoyed the book very much, but it's not my fave in the series. #NordicNoir

This one is in the middle of the series but still enjoyable especially if you like more information on the personal lives of the detectives along with the mystery.

Ich entscheide auf den ersten 20 bis 100 Seiten, ob mir ein Buch zusagt. Bei diesem Krimi ist es leider nicht so. In den ersten 20 Seiten werden soviele Charaktere mit Ortssprüngen eingeführt, dass ich niemanden mehr zuordnen konnte. Zudem gefallen mir persönlich die Charaktere nicht so. Für mich ist es nichts, anderen kann es gut gefallen.

Tasau Ich habe auch mal ein Buch von ihr angefangen zu lesen - es aber auch nicht beendet 😉 7y
