Third in the Detective Kim Stone series, I was so bowled over by the prior Evil Games that I immediately picked up this one. Two young girls are missing and ransom is demanded which eerily resembles an unsolved case from a year ago. The ransom demand is extra horrifying as it involves a psychological twist rather than just money. There are three baddies: the “brains”, the twisted killer and someone pulling the strings behind the scenes. Kim and 🔻

robinb her team are under pressure to keep the parents as calm as possible, keep the case under wraps and bring the girls home safely. And yes, this is another story to be bowled over by…lots of tense moments, twists, and just plain good plot development. Great read. 4.5/5⭐️ 4mo
squirrelbrain That was quick! 😃 4mo

No. 3 in the series see DI Stone take on a child abduction case which has a sick twist. Two girls are kidnapped & the parents have to bid & the highest bid gets their daughter back. The other is never seen again.

A fast paced read & the best of the series so far. 4🌟

CW: aftermath of brutal violence, quick scene of animal death.

Charlie & Amy have been kidnapped. The kidnappers' game is an auction. Whoever offers the most money, their daughter will live, the other will die. Kim Stone is tough on her team. She is determined to bring these children back unharmed.
Story builds and builds and the plot twists and turns until the very surprise ending. Kidnappers are real nasty. Looking forward to the next book & highly recommend this book to those who love mystery thrillers.

Crazeedi I definitely need to add this to my series reads! 4y
EadieB @Crazeedi Yes! Another good series! 4y

Crazeedi @EadieB awesome!! 4y
TrishB I‘m loving this series 👍🏻 4y
EadieB @TrishB I just wish Kim wasn‘t so grumpy. 4y
TrishB I like that 😁 I‘m pretty sure it‘s probably an apt description for me a lot of the time! 4y
Andrew65 @TrishB 🤣 And me! 4y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi You do, after I‘d read the first one I recommended the series to a colleague and read all 11 over the Summer holiday. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 Loved this! A great series and I liked the interactions between grumpy Kim and the Negotiator, someone who takes her on. 4y
EadieB @TrishB I‘m feeling grumpy too as I am falling behind on my reading as I am helping my 7 yo grandson with his online schoolwork on Tuesdays and Thursday. Also have a big dumpster in my driveway and throwing lots of things out. Found out carbon monoxide has been leaking into house from heater and air-conditioner which is causing major coughing for years. Very scary! So no time for reading. @Andrew65 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB That‘s awful, the carbon monoxide that is. In UK all children been back in school full-time since beginning of September. Look after yourself 😊 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 New Heater/Air Conditioner will be installed in 10 days. Windows are open now. Still coughing but not as bad. Thought it was allergies. Hopefully cough will get better soon. Finn can go to school but my daughter optioned for online at home. 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Not the time to be coughing with Covid about. (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Parents in this country do not have any choice, have to be at school. 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 That‘s not good as I heard UK has lots of cases floating around. 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB The are definitely on the increase again but intention from Government is to keep schools open for children‘s learning and mineral health and to get the country going again. Not fully in favour but this is what we are told we have to do with a lot of safeguards in place. Have to say barring two children all 400 of ours is back, and in main very happy to have the children back. Unlike flu evidence showing low indicence of children spreading (edited) 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB it. We are in out third week back. Referred a number of staff / children for tests due to coughs or temperatures but so far all negative, and appears to be Autumn colds. 🤞 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 Sounds like it‘s working out. 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Time will tell, but inundated with work and having to keep reviewing arrangements. Children all in bubbles that staff / children don‘t cross, children don‘t move around school, staggered start and finish but still full hours, children not in masks as not advised for under 11s, children 2m away from staff - unless got PPE on. At least children learning of a fashion. Children all happy to be back and are thriving again. But watch this space 4y
Andrew65 Need children back for the economy so adults can go to work. Any cough, temperature, or loss of taste or smell children have to go home or stay home and get tested before can return. If a confirmed case that bubble would then shut down and isolate for 14 days, but other bubbles would stay in unless outbreak or school not done a good enough job of maintaining bubbles. I am very strict on these points. Forty page Risk Assessment in place (edited) 4y
Andrew65 That at least reviewed daily. @EadieB Been like setting up a new school with all the new systems we have in place. (edited) 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 As always you have an amazing system in place. Not surprised as you always put your all into everything you do. The parents are lucky to have such a caring headmaster. 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB And to be fair to them a lot of positive comments from parents, praising my openness and honesty with them and my very regular letters with them that has kept them updated on everything. Thanks 😍 Yes sums me up as a person I try to put my all (sometimes too much) into everything! At Christmas will have been there 14 years and head at previous school for 4 years. But this has to be the most unique of times. (edited) 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 Definitely very unique times but you seem capable to handle whatever is thrown at you. 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Don‘t really have any option. 55 in November when I could retire if I wanted to and did debate this with myself over the Summer but felt I had to be there for staff and children, and couldn‘t let them all down by leaving at this time. But a very different job! (edited) 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 Hopefully things will get better and these conditions won‘t be classified as normal. I‘m a little nervous of when flu season hits and what will happen then. Will we be able to determine which flu is infecting people at which time? 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB Only by doing what we are doing in school at the moment and getting a Covid test completed for any of the 3 core symptoms, we however need governments to have the testing capacity. 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 A vaccine is suppose be available in October 4y
Andrew65 @EadieB 🤞🤞🤞🤞 But all depends on how effective it is, if tests go well and how long to get it to everybody. One can but hope. 4y

It took me a while to finish the last 30 pages, not due to the book at all. The book was captivating! I love Kim Stone and I really liked seeing her personality really show up in this book. I also enjoy the banter with her and her team. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Another excellent Kim Stone thriller! This one is a race against time with two little girls kidnapped and kidnappers playing the parents against each other. It has a few good twists that I had forgotten since I first read it. There's also some nice insight into Kevin with the secondary mystery. I really enjoy then assertiveness and cleverness of Kim in these books.

TW: kidnapping, some pretty brutal murders

One the best series ever, if not the best! I have fallen in love with Angela‘s writing. I feel like a teenager who‘s in love with a boy band! Huge fan here! The plot is fantastic, the characters great, the writing perfection. If you do not believe, why not try reading these books yourself?

Today is about this! I know I‘ve been raving about this author lately, but I have found my new fave author, bar none! Absolutely brilliant! Luckily today Is only about reading and eating chocolate 😍🥰📖. ** This is a review, but I accidentally pressed ‘blurb‘. I guess there‘s no way to change that afterwards 😤

eanderson Sounds like you have a great plan! I love finding a new favorite author. Sharon Bolton is an auto buy for me. So is Karin Slaughter, MJ Arlidge, and Jane Harper. Enjoy your reading day!!! 4y
Tove_Reads @eanderson Absolutely love Bolton! Jane Casey is another one! 4y
eanderson I really need to read Jane Casey! I have the first two books in the series but have yet to pick one up. I‘m making a priority tbr list and she‘s on top! 4y

Another compelling read featuring Detective Kim Stone. This time the lives of two little girls are at stake and it is a race against the clock to solve the kidnapping. I loved the pacing and the intensity of it. Also that twist I didn't see coming at all even so that's awesome. It did feel like it was dragging sometimes but not so much that it mattered.

Got a little crazy with the debit card and Audible while on night shift last night. Didn't realize I bought this many. Oops😘👍🏻📚📖❤️

Sue Whoops!! 8y
SarahK Haha. I've made the mistake of getting on Amazon after working all night and buying all the books. 8y

List_addict Night shift does that to you. Last night shift I bought four pairs of shoes! Enjoy. 8y
AshManzer Is your debit card smoking now?! 8y
JoeStalksBeck @tricours none , just haunting Bookbub and Amazon. Got them all for 30$! 8y
JoeStalksBeck @AshManzer lol nope, thanks to Amazon! The most expensive one was 5.00$. Got Dark Matter on a credit:)) 8y
JoeStalksBeck @List_addict thanks!!👍🏻📖 8y
tricours I only thought the Audible daily deals were that cheap! Never heard of bookbub, what is that? 8y
JoeStalksBeck @tricours I stumbled on it by accident . It's part of Amazon and audible. Sends me daily deals and tons of free books! 8y
Lola My best Audible hack-if you borrow a Kindle book from the library and the book has a Whispersync audio match, you can by it for the reduced price while the Kindle book is active in your account. Once the borrow expires, the reduced price option does too but if you buy while the borrow is active, the audio book you buy is yours to keep. I've gotten some amazing deals that way. 8y
