If you have this book on your TBR, listen to the audio! The production was amazing! If it‘s not on your TBR, listen to the audio!

I was nervous that it was going to be difficult to differentiate between the podcast and story, but it was very clear. I‘m not sure if I would have enjoyed this as much if I read it. But I did really enjoy this story as well.

Nothing else from this author comes close to Oona out of Order for me. I felt this book especially was drawn out and I didn‘t love the podcast format parts. It probably would have made a great podcast but it didn‘t work on the page for me.
I kept reading to get to the end and hoped for a great satisfying ending but it just wasn‘t there.

Although I‘m terrible at daily photo challenges, this list was too good to pass up, so instead I attempted to read books with appropriate titles instead. Here‘s my final results for #temptingtitles

Headphones in, audiobook playing, multiple drinks and simple lunch all ready to go. I have mocha cold brew coffee, water (not shown), and the iced tea + lemonade Monster that @TheAromaofBooks shared the other day. I had to try it!

So far, I‘m really enjoying this book! 🖤

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Watch out for those Monsters... they're addictive 😂 13mo
Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks I‘ve always said I wasn‘t a fan of energy drinks, because they taste too much like Flinstones vitamins lol. But I guess there‘s so many new ones out there…. We tried a couple this weekend and I‘m definitely a fan of the Reign ones, the Pineapple Punch and now these Rehab ones. 😂 13mo
TheAromaofBooks I really like that the Rehabs aren't carbonated and don't have a lot of added sugar. That one is just an Arnold Palmer with boosted caffeine... hard to not like that! 😂 13mo

When I first started this one, I was like, "Wow, this is awesome!" I really liked how the story unfolded through podcast episodes, newspaper articles, and emails. But I didn't enjoy the narrative portions from Sasha's perspective as much. These sections feel less complex than I want them to, and her daughter does not seem like a 21-year-old to me. It's an interesting concept, but I left the novel uncertain of what the purpose was. #gettbr

ImperfectCJ And I really don't like therapy sessions in novels. 1y

Rain gave us rainbows this morning. I spotted a few while driving hither and yon and listening to the tagged book. More driving is on tap for this afternoon, but the cloud cover is more comprehensive, so I suspect the sun won't be able to break through enough to give us more rainbows. (I'll still watch for them, though.)

Indulging: Setting up my 2023 bullet journal by putting a bunch of tiny calendars and overly optimistic zone cleaning plans in my new notebook while listening to the tagged audiobook.

This feels embarrassingly accurate 🤣
But I'm the one who decided to open an in-home bakery during the holiday season sooooo... 👩🏼‍🍳
I'm surviving on coffee + audiobooks in the kitchen these days. Just finished the tagged book and... Meh. 🤷‍♀️ It wanted to be a Daisy Jones with magicians instead of a rock band but it veered off on a sci fi tangent that felt kinda random.

Suet624 I hope you can find sometime to relax. 1y
kyraleseberg @Suet624 Thanks, I'll definitely be making time!! It's a busy season but one I'm so grateful for 🥰 1y

Violet is an incredible magician who disappeared in the middle of her stage act & hasn‘t been seen in 10 years. How? Why? On the anniversary, a podcast is being made diving into her world and who knew her best, but did anyone or was it all an act? Her sister has never publicly spoken about it, but things are getting weird so it might be time. Loved the idea, hated the ending, Violet is a piece of sh*t, bye girl, stay gone xo

Great second book from the author of Oona out of Order. Magic is the key to this story, Violet Volk, a female magician disappears during an act and has been gone for ten years. Great read, set with emails, podcast interviews, and her sisters madness of why Violet has always done things that cause distress. 💜💜💜💜💜

This wasn‘t 100% for me, but I did enjoy aspects of the audiobook production and especially the podcast element of it. And it achieved the purpose for which I'd selected it, which was “A book with a punny title“ for my local indie's summer book bingo. ✅ 🙂

I loved this book, just like I loved Oona Out of Order. I liked the different formats used, email, articles, letters and podcasts. I can't say that I am interested in magic or magicians but I found this book really interesting and of course you want to know what happened to Violet.

I experienced this via full cast audio with sound effects, and it felt like I was binge watching an extended cut of Dateline. It was fun. When the story veered deep with podcaster Cameron Frank, I found myself awaiting the return to the Sasha and family‘s perspective. That‘s not a negative for Cameron so much as a positive for Sasha‘s story. I am on the fence about the ending though.

Kboltz I was not into the ending either but then I thought..it‘s magic! 😂. Why not!💜 2y

Ten years ago, celebrated magician Violet Volk disappeared during her disappearing act and no one has seen her since. As her fans and a podcast host ramp up to honor the 10th anniversary, her sister Sasha just wants to be left alone. I just loved Oona and liked this one as well, though I wanted a little more out of the how of it all.

If you can get the audio book of this book I would highly recommend. It has an array of different characters and since it‘s based on a podcast and a disappearance I was highly invested in this read. This will be a book that either you will love or you will not but I really enjoyed it.

This is a fabulous audiobook. I almost wonder if the author had the audio adaptation in mind while writing. Violet, a famous magician, disappeared on stage 10 years ago, and her fans have only grown more obsessed. Her sister is trying to live a normal life and avoids the publicity. The story is told through true crime podcast episodes, emails, and letters with some traditional narration. The characters are layered and the mystery captivating.

This was a fun, very well produced full-cast #audiobook that is a #BorrowNotBuy for me but 💯 worth reading!

Violet Volk was a wildly popular stage magician who disappeared during a show in her hometown 10 years ago. Fans and even family don‘t know if she‘s dead or just disappeared. The book mainly follows Violet‘s sister, who is still reeling from their complicated, messy relationship, and a podcast looking into Violet‘s life and strange exit.

ChaoticMissAdventures Love a full cast audio! 2y

I liked the way this story explored a complicated sisterly bond, as well as how it showed how differently everyone sees a person and how easily we are swayed by a public persona. Fame has been known to blind us to human fallibility. On top of these more profound dynamics, there is the mystery of what happened to Violet, which only enhanced my investment in the story.

A story of sisters, magic and a disappearance, I couldn‘t stop listening to this terrific #audiobook! With a wide cast of performers, and a high production value, the audio format feels genuinely multimedia as it switches between past and present narratives, podcast episodes, emails, letters and more. Engaging, mysterious and totally captivating, I absolutely loved this- though I think reading it may have left me less satisfying with the answers…
