4⭐️ A graphic representation of Timothy Snyder‘s On Tryanny. While some of the material is uncomfortable and difficult to read, it is definitely a worthwhile read. #2024 #nonfiction #history #politics

Wow. Powerful and really makes you think. Scary, as well, because how many people are actually going to be strong enough to stand up to tyranny? The illustrations are unusual and fascinating. I‘d like to read the full book at some point; there are definitely parts of this that I didn‘t understand. I wrote down a lot of quotes.
I did find it strange that there were frequent and specific references to Trump, but he is never named.
“Make an effort to separate yourself from the internet. Read books.”
That‘s some advice I can get behind 😁📚📚📚
“The mistake is to assume that rulers who came to power through institutions cannot change or destroy those very institutions—even when that is exactly what they have announced that they will do.”
I‘ve seen so many people talk about the 2026 and 2028 elections as though we can rely on them happening. I don‘t believe we can.
I learned so much from this little book. It was amazing. At 128 pages it is well worth the read. I also added three new quotes to my quote journal from this book!
This book is just fascinating.
I keep setting myself a limit on library books so I can find time to read books I already own. And then… #libraryhaul
This book has important lessons for surviving and resisting America‘s arc toward authoritarianism. And with the second election of Trump, this is more important than ever. It‘s a quick read but don‘t mistake that for shallow or uninformative. The narrative, the art, and the historical lessons will leave you ready to participate in resistance and wanting to learn more from Snyder.
Reminder to folks that the On Tyranny graphic edition is readable and just as information-filled as the text one

Graphic novel and “only 120 pages” are very deceiving. This is a hard and important read. It made me rather ill but I‘m very glad I read it.

Love this graphic edition! I didn‘t compare the text side-by-side with the original version, but the graphic edition is definitely updated. References to all four years of Trump‘s control, including the pandemic. The collage style / mixed media presentation of the illustrations and photos enhances all of the ideas. Would make a great gift🎁
Breakfast with a book🤓📖 Excited to dive into this graphic edition and really pour over the illustrations.
This was just so excellent. It should be required reading in every middle and high school. The graphic novel edition takes Snyder's text on how tyrannical governments get power -- and how to resist -- and makes it even more accessible. Definitely going to be gifting this to my nephew!
Side note: I was reading this during #potteraday and saw so many parallels! HP + On Tyranny would make an excellent course together.

I really liked how the graphics added to the text through a mixture of illustration and photography. I thought it really brought the subject matter to life and made for a quick, engaging read. I thought it was a little weird how it referred to Trump as “an American president“ and the focus only on European democracies, but those were things that were done in the original edition as well and aren't just specific to the graphic edition.
History does not repeat, but it does instruct.
