Who is Huda (the author)? She is funny and wise and a great comic artist and a Muslim and an American. I adored her graphic novels! More Huda please, dear Huda. 😊

I love that she‘s dedicated the book to her Mom who wants it made clear that she doesn‘t like the title 😂
Anyway, this set up was a tiktok/reel trend for awhile and it made me laugh!
This was funny and honest and dealt with serious issues the Muslim American community faces in a very age appropriate way. I read the whole thing while covering a 6th grade class today as they completed an independent assignment. #middlegrademarch @megnews @sblbooks
The cringing humour inherent in being a teenager, contrasted with xenophobia and Islamophobia which is experienced by Muslim-Americans, even in a majority-supportive environment. Very glad my library has it available in my community for all ages. It has a fun illustration style, main character that I think would be most relatable to fellow teens, and it covers topics like family, heritage/culture and religion in an approachable fashion.
Good story. How she learned who she was as an individual in high school outside of just being someone who wears a hijab. Shared vulnerable moments like when her mom was sticking up for her when people were being racist and Islamophobic at school and in public, but she brushed over it. I like that I learn things about Muslim culture through these graphic novels. I liked That Can Be Arranged better, though.
Loved this graphic novel! A story about finding your identity and a coming of age story of a young teen. Huda is such an authentic teen voice and I absolutely loved this. I truly hope this author continues the series bc I want more!
Love a book that is both window & mirror (Rudine Sims Bishop)—at once relatable & perspective expanding. Is this discrimination really as bad as I think? (Paraphrasing)
This was a quick graphic novel read. Arab Muslim teen Huda is constantly questioning who she is while trying to make friends in a new school. Although the plot is good I felt like Huda doesn‘t move the plot, its just thrown at her. I suppose she finds part of herself but her growth is limited. But I would still recommend it because hey, it takes a long time to grow.
Oh I loved this one! A funny and relatable graphic novel about trying to fit in. Huda‘s family moves to Dearborn where she realizes she‘s no longer the only hijabi in class. She doesn‘t seem to belong to the gamers or the athletes or the fashionistas. Can Huda figure out who she is and learn to accept herself? The author blends self-discovery with heavier topics like Islamophobia and microagressions. Honest and charming
SO GOOD!!! Follow Huda as she traverses high school, pimples and racism in this coming-of-age graphic novel from one of my favorite cartoonists. Cannot recommend enough! ☕
