Christmas at the Cat Caf | Jessica Redland
post image
Pickpick

Having discovered Jessica Redland last Christmas and enjoyed her books since, I was keen to jump into this book about Tabby setting up a Cat Cafe, which seems a novel concept. Unfortunately just before opening her partner deserts her and if that isn‘t enough she also is suffering from the debilitating condition of fibromyalgia. There also seem to be people around her that want to stop the cafe opening.

Andrew65 I loved this book as much as her previous books and do enjoy the writing style of her books, and the romance style of them. I do feel it‘s good that people write about people suffering with medical conditions, and I learned a lot about fibromyalgia in this book which will make me understand it better, but I can see how this might put some people off who read books for escapism. 2mo
Andrew65 However I have to say I felt this was written very well into the book, and only added to the reading experience and the story for me.

I felt the story was very well written, and in particular the slow burn of the developing relationship in Tabby‘s life, and found myself rooting for them. I loved the main characters and was very glad to spend some of the Christmas season with them.

Andrew65 I‘m not particularly a cat person, but despite that I did love the story and the unique cat part of it, although I‘m sure I wouldn‘t spend the extra money to go to a cat cafe. Just a word of warning if anyone is a cat lover there is one part of the story that could be upsetting. However, even that I feel was very well written in the story.

Andrew65 Overall if you enjoy these romance style of books I would definitely recommend this book, and gave it five stars. There isn‘t one book by Jessica Redland that I haven‘t enjoyed very much, and look forward to reading more books by her.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book cover and blurb are pretty deceiving, as most of it takes place during November, not at Christmas time, so there was very little holiday festiveness. I really hate it when books do that! 😡

MallenNC Oh man. It‘s a pretty cover though! 2mo
Andrew65 Me too! Reading one at the moment and festive season very immaterial to the book despite Christmas being in the title. 2mo

As we come to the close of another year, never forget the true meaning of the holiday season: the uber wealthy getting scared into becoming compassionate & empathetic human beings.

Listening to 5 productions of this was an absolute delight. Curry brings the spookiness, Stewart a gravitas, Grant reminds me of listening to my grandfather read me stories, Dale is always a joy to listen to, & Burton is everything my reading 🌈heart needs. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

Andrew65 Absolutely brilliant 👏👏👏🙌 2mo

KathyWheeler I didn‘t know Levar Burton did a version of A Christmas Carol! 2mo
willaful It occurred to me for the first time this year that ACC has likely been very counterproductive! Heartless tycoons didn't get a ghostly visitation, so they figure everything's fine. *lolsob* 2mo

I used to get this book out from the library, but this year it seemed like it had been lost or culled. So I bought myself a copy as a present. It‘s such a great book to dip in and out of on those weird days around Christmas and New Years. And I‘m happy to have my own copy that I can highlight and fall asleep with.

A Small Death in Lisbon | Robert Wilson

Pickpick

This is a complex and gripping mystery/thriller spanning two timelines that eventually merge. Some parts are quite disturbing and graphic, but I enjoyed learning more about Portugal's history in the second half of the 20th century.

I chose this book for the “wartime mystery“ prompt of #CloakAndDaggerChristmas. @Ruthiella

This was pure fluff and exactly what I needed to get me out of a mini slump. Back in Christmas Falls, the B&B owner falls for an unexpected guest

Mehso-so

I really liked the concept of these queer fairy tale retellings, I think I just didn't care for some of the stories that were chosen to retell. There were two stories that I really loved but the rest left me feeling meh. Beautiful art though, I loved the colored pencil designs. I don't know if the author is planning another collection like this in future but I would give it a go if they do
