None of This Would Have Happened If Prince Were Alive
None of This Would Have Happened If Prince Were Alive | Carolyn Prusa

Perfect for fans of Maria Semple and Jennifer Weiner, this smart and witty debut novel follows Ramona through the forty-eight hours after her life has been upended by the discovery of her husband's affair and an approaching Category Four hurricane. Ramona's got a bratty boss, a toddler teetering through toilet training, a critical mom who doesn't mind sharing, and oops--a cheating husband. That's how a Category Four hurricane bearing down on her life in Savannah becomes just another item on her to-do list. In the next forty-eight hours she'll add a neighborhood child and the class guinea pig named Clarence Thomas to her entourage as she struggles to evacuate town. Ignoring the persistent glow of her minivan's check engine light, Ramona navigates police check points, bathroom emergencies, demands from her boss, and torrential downpours while fielding calls and apology texts from her cheating husband and longing for the days when her life was like a Prince song, full of sexy creativity and joy. Thoroughly entertaining and completely relatable, None of This Would Have Happened if Prince Were Alive is the hilarious, heartwarming story of a woman up to her elbows in calamities and about to drive off the brink of the rest of her life.

I loved all the Prince references, of course, in this story of a mom trying to decide whether to evacuate her family from Savanah GA to avoid a hurricane. To add to the stress, she‘s just caught her husband cheating. Lots of humor and adorable kid moments, and a bit of a comedy of errors vibe throughout. Overall a fun read.

Library loan and #Aardvark pick. Overall this debut was humorous and touched on some very real topics that need to be discussed more, but it was mostly surface level, and didn‘t truly incorporate Prince into the mix. I appreciated the commentary on weaponized incompetence and unreal expectations of working parents (particularly moms), but cringed at the cheating husband excuses and general expectation that he‘d be forgiven. #Pop23 about a family

This is a light pick for me. It was a quick, easy read which is what I wanted. It wasn‘t spectacular but not horrible either.

Ramona is dealing with deadlines at work, taking care of her 2 children, dealing with the new knowledge that her husband is cheating on her all while trying to rescue her mother, several animals and the neighbor kid from a hurricane.

Ramona is trying to meet a deadline at work when she has to pick up one of her kids ahead of a incoming hurricane, and discovers her husband is cheating on her. I could nitpick this book, as the plot points were really obvious, but it‘s a fun read with a good heart, so I won‘t. I‘m glad this was my first #Aardvark read.

Soubhiville One of the topics for my RL bookclub this year is “absurdly long or bizarre title” and I‘m planning to read this one 🙂. 1y
Hooked_on_books @Soubhiville What a fun prompt! This one is perfect on both counts. 1y

Can you name a book with a longer title? We dare you 😉 (Nonfiction only gets partial points - those titles can get long!)

swishandflick By letter or word count? Haha. Maybe not longer but should be pretty close! (edited) 1y

theokiereader I feel like Fredrik Backman can make a strong showing in this category. 1y

I decided, after much deliberation, to go with these 2 for my December #aardvark picks.

swishandflick If I had been able to order 4 books I would have added Factory Girls too! Will be looking forward to seeing what folks think about it! 1y

I feel REALLY good about this #Aardvark clue guess!! All of this comes from the synopsis btw:

⛈ = There's a hurricane approaching
🚘 = As she tries to evacuate there's car trouble
💍 = Discovered her husband's having an affair
🐹 = The class guinea pig Clarence is with her 😂

jdiehr Nice work! 1y
AlaMich The title of the purple one would win in a best title contest!! 🤣 1y
Megabooks That is great sleuthing! 1y
