Very much a “it's not you, it's me“ situation. I always knew I didn't really want to read this and I apparently still don't. I'm glad it's around for the people who need it.

Ahhhh, this was so good! I tore on through it in less than a day, thoroughly caught up in Imogen‘s identity struggles and her intense friendships. I laughed A LOT (especially at the small German sausage), nodded along with Imogen‘s thought processes, and desperately hoped for her to reject Gretchen‘s prescriptive declarations. It‘ll stay with me for a long while.
Also, I think both Imogen and Tessa would approve of my penguin. #AuldLangSpine2025

Even though not everything is done correctly in this book (one difficult character should've gotten more attention and a real solution to her problems), I liked this book more than I thought I would. I was surprised by how much of me I found in Imogen. Same thoughts, struggles, over-thinking, questioning. There are some problematic parts, but I still think this work might help some people finding themselves.

I don't know that I can explain how much I loved this book. It feels like it was written for me. Albertalli so accurately encompasses the messiness and confusion of questioning your identity, especially amid accusations of queer baiting and what it means to be a good ally. At the same time, the story is so hopeful and filled with the tingles of a new crush and the lightness of finding your people, where you can comfortably be yourself.

Fiction #ReadingBracket2024 update for May
I still have to catch up on reviews but there were two stand outs for the month. The Fae Keeper was a great ending to the duology that I couldn't stop listening to. Imogen Obviously made my little shy bi heart happy 💖
So many good reads this year already, I'm running out of bonus spaces! 😅

This one made me laugh and cry and I loved every minute of it! When Imogen goes to visit her newly out bestie, Lili, in college, she finds out that Lili‘s told all her new college friends a little white lie. That Imogen and Lili are ex‘s turned BFFs… So she pretends to be bi to support Lili. But as she gets to know Lili‘s newest bestie, Tessa, she starts to suspect that being bi might not be such a lie. Because she‘s falling for her.

Omg.... I want more of the tagged book. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE write another one!!!!
LGBT+ FAMILY

Just borrowed the tagged book from the library via audiobook (Libby). So this is how I will spend my NYE and NYD.

Overall pretty good, sweet and cute. I loved reading this as I watched Imogen slowly fall for Tessa without realizing it because she believed she was straight for so long.

Nearly done with this and I‘m enjoying it aside from the best friend who is really annoying 🙄

Read in a day so of course it is a pick!
This is a sweet YA coming of age - wrestling with labels book. Imogen is the straight Ally friend, but maybe she is not?
I had a bit of trouble getting into the YA language the first 50 pages but once I got the rhythm it was a quick read that kept my interest.

⭐️⭐️ Could be helpful and insightful for a younger person. It really goes all-in on Gen Z, so much of the relatability flew out the window for this Elder Millennial. This riff on Albertalli‘s real-life experience has thoughtful moments, but the writing /dialogue / stereotyping became exhausting and repetitive. And the term “discourse” is obnoxious and overused. I‘ve enjoyed some of her other queer YA novels, but this wasn‘t for me.

My two new purchases to celebrate the start of Pride Month 🏳️🌈 📖! I hope they are both as cute and happy as they look.

The way I squealed for five minutes when I finished this one!! Love how this book tackled the "who gets to be queer enough" discourse while also being a beautiful romance and a fun friendship story. Becky Albertalli has the range! #yalit #yaromance #book100of2023

My signed bookplate came in today for this one! 🩷📚🩷 I love preorder bonuses! 😀 I read Imogen, Obviously as soon as it was released and absolutely loved it! I pretty much enjoy everything that Becky Albertalli writes, but this one was really special!
