"Absolutely splendid storytelling, a book to entertain, to immerse, and to challenge." --A. J. Finn, New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the WindowShe saved his life. Now he'll never let her go.Detective Elise Sutton is drawn to cold cases. Each crime is a puzzle to solve, pulled from the past. Elise looks for cracks in the surface and has become an expert on how murderers slip up and give themselves away. She has dedicated her life to creating a sense of order, at work with her ex-marine partner; at home with her husband and two young daughters; and within, battling her own demons. Elise has everything under control, until one afternoon, when she walks into a department store and is forced to make a terrible choice: to save one life, she will have to take another.Elise is hailed as a hero, but she doesn't feel like one. Steeped in guilt, and on a leave of absence from work, she's numb, even to her husband and daughters, until she connects with Wade Austin, the tall man whose life she saved. But Elise soon realizes that he isn't who he says he is. In fact, Wade Austin isn't even his real name. The tall man is a ghost, one who will set off a terrifying game of cat and mouse, threatening Elise and the people she loves most.

3✨ This was a #OUABC read that I was putting off. I was not very into it for most of the story. I was tired of the constant complaint and run around with her affair, and that even as a police officer she was trying to handle things on her own. The ending was where I enjoyed the storyline a lot more. While there was suspense throughout the story the ending was the most intriguing to me.

“Thrillers” have been hit or miss for me these past couple of years, but decided to take a chance on Wendy Walker. I read Emma in the Night, one of her earlier books, and it remains one of the better thrillers I‘ve read. This was a good, entertaining read, but had lots of TWs…beginning with a store shooting in the first chapter. Turns the victim/perpetrator dynamic on its head. A pick, though not life-changing!

I‘m not a suspense or stalker book fan. Did find myself having to finish it thou. Creepy as heck, but I couldn‘t find myself enthralled by that. My focus was on Elise and how she managed the two trauma filled pieces of her; having to shoot someone and then being stalked. Which is what got into her head so hard. Quick 245 page read. Maybe that‘s why it just didn‘t sink in for me; I like longer reads. Great gifts for the box at least.

I love when I get a mystery/thriller in my OUABC box! This one was so good and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. This was also a OUABC special edition and it is gorgeous!! I definitely need to read other books by Wendy Walker because I loved this one.

Ok…so I‘m thinking that this book would‘ve been better if we had another point of view. I‘m thinking something along the lines of Joe from You by Caroline Kepnes. I wanted more of the unhinged moments that kept me on the edge of my seat. I may or may not write a longer review because this sums up how I felt about the book. 🤷🏽‍♀️ we will see.

It took me a minute to get into this one. I really wasn‘t expecting that ending though. The books itself was a good read but kinda weird to me. It kept jumping from the case to how everything got started. If you‘re looking for a book to mess with your mind, this one will do it

I‘m saddened to say that this with not my favorite from Wendy Walker 😕 - the thriller was there, but it just didn‘t seem as intense me as her usual writings.

4¾⭐
This started with a bang that left me slightly triggered (since I work in retail) but left me fully engaged once the actual story got going. It was cleverly plotted and with an exceptional mystery at its core. I really liked the way the two POVs kept you questioning how & when they would intersect right up until they did intersect and you get that a-ha moment. This was Wendy Walker at her best but I wasn't a fan of Gabra Zackman's narration.

First Wendy Walker book. The cover and title looks like the story is going to be intense. Let‘s get it!

Reading_Beyond_The_Book_Cover It took me some time to get into this. Around chapter 5 or 6 is when it picked up for me. 9mo

The title for this book was perfect.
What Remains..
What does remain. After you take a life. Even when it's in self defense or when you think someone else's life is at risk. You have to pull that trigger and take down a suspect. His life is over. Your's is never the same. That is what happened to Detective Elise Sutton when she has to take out a young man who is firing a gun inside a department store.

This author writes very complex mystery/thrillers. I like that I don't have them all figured out in advance of the reveal.

I totally failed with the picture taking. 🤷😘
