I've enjoyed this author's books before and this one was very good also. Not exactly edge of your seat thriller or a mystery, but more of a story of friendships. Some tense moments yes, but friendships that are strained.

If you‘ve been disappointed by the lack of thrills in a Carola Lovering novel before then this one might not work for you since it‘s on par with her other psychological thrillers, they are more psychological than thriller. I find them intriguing, the way she delves into the psyche of the mind of her characters and pulls these complex, nuanced stories out of them. The narration by Helen Laser & Karissa Vacker was very good.

I enjoyed this book, found it a little bit slow and predictable at times, but the toxic friendship between the two main characters was what kept me reading it 🤣🤣

What also kept me from giving it a higher score is that some of the situations were too out there or just seemed to be resolved too quickly.

I quite enjoyed this story of a very complicated friendship (with great character development) that changed over the years as the girls became women. While some are calling this a thriller I did not think it really fit that genre, although there are a few 'thrilling' parts to the story. Both of the main characters were flawed, with interesting backgrounds, but I really only found one of them unlikable. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital ARC. 4/5

Billie & Cassie are childhood best friends but recently there‘s been more distance than ever between them. While Billie can chalk some of it up to Cassie‘s preoccupation with her social media influencer & boutique-owning career, plus a newborn, she knows that there is more to it than that. Cassie may come off as shallow, but an incident at her birthday party changes her perspective. A compelling read with tense moments but unlikable characters.

Friends forever and then no more.

What happened?

We follow Billie and Cassie from their teenage years to adulthood.

BYE, BABY was not the thriller I was expecting but got good around 50% as things are revealed.

It was more about the lives of the characters and petty disagreements.

I enjoyed this story. It's billed as a psychological thriller, but to me it was more a woman's fiction. It dealt with friendship from school to adulthood and how that whole concept changes things. It's written in dual timelines, as well as multiple POV's.

Billie and Cassie met at the age of 12 and became best friends. As adults, one drifts from the other one, which happens in all friendships. Then one night, one does something ⬇️

Monica5 that is unforgivable to the other.

There are trigger warnings in this book. Child Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Dementia, and a crime ( I don't want to say which crime bc I don't want to give anything away).

While, I didn't always like Billie or Cassie, I could relate to them. How many of us still talk to their best friend in school, even once a month? I'm sure some do, but for most of us, you grow apart. Rather it's distance, children or just life getting in the way. I will say that there was good character development in the book. The story moved along at a good pace. But, I just didn't think the ending as a whole was believable. That's just my opinion though. Others may think that that would actually happen, but I'm not so sure.

Tentative Publication Date: March 5, 2024

Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the E-ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

This book kept me on the edge of my seat right from the end of the first chapter. This is a story of toxic relationships and obsession. Carola Lovering did a great job in developing the characters and the concept is something that women can relate to. Billie and Cassie have different goals and aspirations and they've grown apart. Cassie made her peace with this, but Billie is left feeling abandoned by her former best friend. Solid 🌟🌟🌟🌟

More than anything this is about toxic relationships &mental health issues. We already know the big reveal: Billie takes Cassie‘s baby. What‘s left is the why &if Billie gets caught. The book focuses on self-centered people & many in need of therapy.

I enjoyed the writing &pacing, &most of the characters were well written, albeit unlikeable. However, I couldn‘t stand the ending. I hated it so much I actually dropped a 1/2 star from my rating.

I loved this. It would be a great book club pick bc the characters are so morally debatable. The characters are roughly my age and it's set partly in 2023, and I thought the author did a great job of capturing us. I could picture Cassie's bougie momcore Instagram stories ... and laughed too hard at all of the relatable bitchiness, but there was some genuine suspense and horror here, too. A very good book, will be enthusiastically recommending.
