Right out of the gate, we‘re introduced to a few of the personalities of someone with MPD. Head mates in a creepy castle- such a fascinating perspective!! I started figuring out what was going on about midway, most people disassociate because of trauma. The epilogue was a bit too strange for me though. Book #115 in 2024

Ken, the MC, has dissociative identity disorder, and she “awakes“ to find she is the caretaker for a house on an island. Her “headmates“ are interesting characters. Based on book description, a murder occurs and Ken is a suspect. 23% in and just now getting to the island. Concept is really unique but too slow for me. It feels like a chore to pick up. Moving on.

Liatrek I only finished this because I was doing a buddy read. It was very disappointing 🙁 2mo

One of Us Know is a novel about a woman with multiple personalities. (Not my normal read.) I almost put the book in a DNF pile but I did work my way through it. Kenetria Nash and her alters are hired to be the caretaker at a historic castle. Someone is murdered and because of a storm the police have not been called. It was hard to keep track of who was who. 3.25/5

Idk if audio was the best format to read this book. There are a lot of points of view as the MC has DID. They get a job at a remote castle on an island as a caretaker. It‘s a thriller so won‘t say much more. I‘m not sure I like Alyssa Cole‘s mysteries.

I feel good about this grid because I know some of these would remain buried on my TBR had I not read them this month. I chuckle because my tagged favorite was a book I originally bailed.

5* = Loved It, want to shout out loud about this book! I do/will own/keep a physical copy. A+
4*= I liked it, would love to discuss. Solid B
3*=Meh, no need to discuss. Avg C
2*=Nope D

I bailed on this book, then started over and ended up almost loving this in a mind-blown sort of way. Sure there‘s a creepy house on an isolated Hudson river island and there‘s a murder - because you have to have a storyline. But for me it was all about the identities (head mates) sharing a physical body to navigate the outside world while an entire ‘family‘ exists and communicates within.

Ruthiella Sometimes a re-start like that can work with a book. 😃 2mo
marleed @Ruthiella I‘m such a mood reader that when I‘m not liking a tbr‘d book, I often wonder if it‘s me, I‘m the problem. And then when I give it a retry, yep, it‘s true - it was me. 2mo
bthegood Glad you enjoyed it, I just started this and I find the “head mates“ very interesting addition to the murder mystery - 🙂 2mo

This is the second Thriller by Alyssa Cole and though I adore her romances I‘m just not the biggest fan of her work in this genre. Like the story and characters were ok but it always feels like something is missing. The endings are always rushed and all out crazy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

The MC of the book has DID (dissociative identity disorder) & 1 of the “headmates” has taken a position as caretaker at a castle isolated on an island, another headmate, after a long period of dormancy has to deal with this
Given the mental health condition it‘s tough to find a reliable narrator (multiple POVs)&Much of the mystery plays out inside the MC‘s mind (but there‘s plenty of weird stuff at the castle).
I have never read anything like it.

The main character, Kenetria, has dissociative identity disorder (DID), and has multiple ‘alters‘ or ‘headmates‘ who take turns ‘fronting‘ or driving her body, actions, and decisions. With a storm approaching, Ken is shocked to see two men from her past included as board members of the estate, and when one of them is murdered, she becomes the lead suspect.

With a creepy and immersive setting and a brilliant cast of alter ego characters. Book 95.

I enjoy this author‘s writing style - it deals with dark content in an upbeat way. She manages to make her central characters very likeable despite being layered and flawed (& in this case very nuanced). This story deals with DID (dissociative identity disorder) in the mix of a murder mystery on a haunted island. Is it too much? Probably. But the author provides a quick read. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3.5/5 stars.

This trod a little too close to horror for my tastes so not the book for me but it‘ll definitely ring all the bells for some people.

Library book 2/3 for #AwesomeApril

Month 4 complete making this year my longest continuing reading streak!

I like this Calendar feature in the Bookmory app a lot. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ April brought lot of scares. May is shaping to be more upbeat, I think.

Fave read was def the Ruth Ozeki…but Grady Hendrix came in a close second.
