The Other Daughter
The Other Daughter: A Novel | Lauren Willig
20 posts | 24 read | 38 to read
Raised in a poor yet genteel household, Rachel Woodley is working in France as a governess when she receives news that her mother has died, suddenly. Grief-stricken, she returns to the small town in England where she was raised to clear out the cottage...and finds a cutting from a London society magazine, with a photograph of her supposedly deceased father dated all of three month before. He's an earl, respected and influential, and he is standing with another daughter-his legitimate daughter. Which makes Rachel...not legitimate. Everything she thought she knew about herself and her past-even her very name-is a lie.Still reeling from the death of her mother, and furious at this betrayal, Rachel sets herself up in London under a new identity. There she insinuates herself into the party-going crowd of Bright Young Things, with a steely determination to unveil her father's perfidy and bring his-and her half-sister's-charmed world crashing down. Very soon, however, Rachel faces two unexpected snags: she finds she genuinely likes her half-sister, Olivia, whose situation isn't as simple it appears; and she might just be falling for her sister's fianc...From Lauren Willig, author of the New York Times bestselling novel The Ashford Affair, comes The Other Daughter, a page-turner full of deceit, passion, and revenge.

When Rachel‘s mother dies unexpectedly Rachel discovers that her father, who she was told died 23 years before, is alive. And an Earl. She sets off to join London society, solve the mystery of what happened all those years ago and maybe get revenge.

#Marchintoreading #setinthe1920s

This is a great standalone novel set in the 1920s by the author of the Pink Carnation series. When Rachel finds out she is the illegitimate daughter of an earl, she secretly maneuvers her way into the life of her half sister. But things go wrong when she actually likes her sister and starts falling for her sister's fiancé. #excellentaudio

Pic is from a murder mystery party with a 1920s theme! I'm on the left.

Hollie Oh my goodness a 20s murder mystery sounds like so much fun! 8y

Tadkins Somehow missed this picture in my feed. Love this time period. The dresses reminded me of one of my favorite reads, the Girls at the Kingfisher Club. It's about sisters who sneak out at night to go dancing. 8y

I had to pop to the store for some sustenance and finished this audio - thoroughly enjoyed the book! It had some twists I didn't see coming and was delightfully read by Nicola Barber.

Lauren's best book yet. Family secrets, shades of Mary Stewart, 1920s, Bright Young Things. All the love.
