Pickpick

Well, that‘s one way to start the year. From the very first page, King‘s ability to hook me and also give me nightmares was apparent. A good read overall and I want to read on in the Holly series. #Roll100 #96

5feet.of.fury I loved this one! So creepy! 4w

My January #Roll100 picks. This year I wrote my 100 books as general “Any ARC, Any Mystery, Any Non-Fiction, Any Audiobook”etc. which I‘m excited about as I can pick each month. 📚

#96 Any Retelling: the tagged book (also for #ChloeGongReadAlong) is a reworking of Antony & Cleopatra

#57 Any BOTM -The Teller of Small Fortunes- been trying to read this one for a few months now.

#62 Any Library Book: The Night Guest (it‘s short & looks good)

kspenmoll I like your idea of categories! 100 books felt overwhelming before I even started. 1mo
DebinHawaii @kspenmoll I did it about half/half this year with titles & categories on my list & really liked having the categories! 1mo

A fictional story about 3 families who are connected through the very real event, the Miracle on the Hudson. The POVs flowed very well and the main character development was captivating. Very engaging and beautifully written! Book #96 in 2024

This book is beautifully written, as Michael Cunningham can do, but I just didn't care much about it. I figured out the connection early and so it mostly dragged for me. Still glad I finally read it though. It has been on my shelf for a long time. It was #96 for #Roll100. @PuddleJumper

PuddleJumper Brilliant! 2y
Ruthiella This book didn‘t do much for me either. I‘ve since read another from him and I liked it better, but it still wasn‘t all that IMO 2y
Morr_Books @Ruthiella Glad to not be alone in my opinion. Thank you for the recommendation, as I am not opposed to reading something else by that author. ♥️ 2y

#Roll100 #96 I gave this a pick because the stories were fun and a nice diversion. However, I'm a little disappointed because I expected a book with a bonus story but essentially got two novellas. Oh well, off my list! @PuddleJumper

PuddleJumper That's great! 2y

Low pick / high so-so.

You can tell this was ghost-written - I was expecting to read 'I did this', instead I got 'Anthony did this'. I only got Anthony's voice in the epilogue.

My January #Roll100 picks are:
#96 - A Poetry Handbook by Mary Oliver
#84 - Mystery Man by Kristen Ashley
#44 - Our Malady by Timothy Snyder

I had already put the Snyder on my #BookSpin list, so clearly I need to read it this month! The Ashley was a swap gift from a couple years ago (one of my 2023 reading goals is books I‘ve received) and one of the few repeats from my 2022 #Roll100 list.

Thanks @PuddleJumper for hosting this challenge!

PuddleJumper Good luck! 2y

January #Roll100!!!
#96 - next in the Sookie Stackhouse series (GR lists all the collections that contain Sookie short stories as part of the series, so I‘m reading all of those too, and have really liked some of the stories from other authors). I actually only have 1 or 2 Sookie novels left.
#84 - This Is Where I Leave You (I‘ve seen and enjoyed the movie)
#45 - Broken Monsters (my 2nd Beukes; I loved The Shining Girls. SO excited for this one)

PuddleJumper Looks great! 2y

Meh. I‘ve read one other Michaels and felt the same - I thought this was supposed to be spooky and thrilling and chilling, but it was all pretty bland. Minor romantic elements, small amount of academia, but meh. And a very early-90s focus on feminism (in academia and otherwise) that was actually really obnoxious. Not terrible but disappointing. This was my #roll100 #96 @PuddleJumper
