JonBenet: Inside the Ramsey Murder Investigation | Donald A. Davis, Steve Thomas
3 posts | 8 read | 1 reading | 7 to read
Finally, the information you've been waiting for: who really killed JonBenet? Perhaps the most compelling murder case of our day, the death of six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey galvanized the nation-and years after it occurred, the mystery still endures. Who killed the young beauty queen and why? Who is covering up for whom and who is simply lying? In JonBenet, the most authoritative and comprehensive study of the Ramsey murder, a former lead Boulder Police detective, Steve Thomas, explores the case in vivid and fascinating detail-pointing the way toward an analysis of the evidence some deem too shocking to consider. Here, Thomas raises these and many other provocative questions: -How was the investigation botched from the beginning-and why did police so carelessly allow the crime scene to be tampered with? -Why were John and Patsy Ramsey protected from early questioning and any lie-detector tests, even though their stories and behavior were erratic, suspicious and inconsistent? -Why was crucial evidence ignored, why were certain key witnesses unquestioned by detectives, and why were the Ramseys privy to sensitive information about the case and even police reports?

Pickpick

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Former Boulder PD lead detective Steve Thomas recounts the events of December 25 and 26, 1996, and the subsequent years-long investigation. He paints a compelling, believable picture against the elusive parents, yet this bizarre case remains unsolved. What happened to innocent, little JonBenét? I‘d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. ⬇️

Flaneurette It seems like it was most likely accidentally done by the brother and Patsy covered it up. I haven‘t read this book tho so maybe you have more insight? The whole thing is so strange and sad 3y
Eggs This has always intrigued me too...have you read the book? 3y
britt_brooke @Eggs This is the only book I‘ve read about it so far, but I‘d like to try another one. Do you have a recommendation? 3y

britt_brooke @Flaneurette This book focuses on the mom mostly. Barely mentions Burke, and not as a suspect, but I do think it‘s possible he was involved. 3y
Andrea4 I remember this being so big when I was a kid, she was on the cover of every tabloide. How sad, really. 3y
britt_brooke @Andrea4 That‘s what I remember, too. Incredibly sad. 3y
Eggs @britt_brooke I have not read a book about this case but I want to-I‘ll bet there are a lot to choose from 3y
britt_brooke @Eggs Yes, an overwhelming amount! Hard to know which ones are worthwhile. 3y
LeahBergen This is one of those cases that has really stuck with me. That basement window with the suitcase under it (used as a step?) has made me think that it MIGHT be someone from outside the home ... but I don‘t know? I‘m not really convinced that Burke had anything to do with it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3y
Cinfhen Definitely the first true crime that really struck a nerve with me and never left. I‘ve always thought like @Flaneurette that the brother was involved and the mom hid the details. I believe both parents are no longer alive or is just Patsy? I‘m sort of disappointed she (Patsy) took her secrets to the grave. Maybe Burke will divulge what he knows one day. I don‘t think it‘s an outsider🤷🏼‍♀️ 3y
Cazxxx The family know the answers to this crime, I don‘t believe anyone else was involved, all the evidence points to someone in the home. We will never find out the truth unfortunately as the family were rich and for a free pass as they pumped a lot of money into the community and police dpt. I don‘t believe Burke was the culprit as I really don‘t think he could‘ve kept that secret all these years. It‘s a shame there will never be justice 3y
britt_brooke @LeahBergen So many weirds things involved. I think it was probably the mom, but I don‘t think the Burke was involved either. 3y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen I def think it was someone inside the house, probably the mom. I‘m not convinced Burke accidentally killed her, but I wonder if he was abusing her? And that‘s what led to the bed-soiling? Idk. It‘s just a mess. Completely mishandled and so very sad. 3y
britt_brooke @Cazxxx Completely agree with everything you said. 3y
Cinfhen So sad 😞 no justice forJonBenet 💔 3y

#NoFemmeber #NonFictionNovember No case has fascinated me more than the brutal murder of Jon Benet Ramsey. And more than 20 years later, it‘s still remains unsolved. Burke Ramsey has always been floated as the possible killer & after watching his only interview, I was left wondering is he #justacreep or a very seriously awkward individual. His demeanor was very off-putting but I‘m going with the latter. In theory he is the most logical killer👇🏼

Cinfhen But I‘m still not convinced he killed his sister. Any thoughts on this case @Reviewsbylola 5y
Megabooks I was wrapped up in this when it happened but haven‘t given it much thought since. I think I may actually have an idea for this prompt! 5y
MKbookworm This happened on my 10th birthday and I weirdly remember the tv broadcasts vividly. I remember thinking, when they showed the pictures of her in her pageant outfits, she doesn‘t seem happy. The case has always haunted me a bit. It‘s weird the details your brain holds onto as young child. 5y

Cinfhen It‘s true @MKbookworm the case is haunting and the way Jon Benet was over sexualized in those pageant outfits with her hair teased and the extreme makeup is still haunting & heartbreaking. 5y
LeahBergen Oh my God! I haven‘t seen that interview with him! 😳 I must hunt it down. 5y
bullbunny Honestly from all the evidence and talking interviews I have seen. I am honestly convinced that the brother did it. Think about all the evidence. You look at how he was back then. Jumping about, unable to sit still. It wasn't investigated right, back then. Tell a child something over and over again and if it's a lie. They will believe that lie is the truth eventually. 5y
TrishB Another confirmation not to read true crime . We‘ve even seen those pics in the U.K. How sad for her 😢 5y
Cinfhen @bullbunny I agree with everything you said but the part I can‘t accept is would a 9 year old sexually molest his sister??? And was he strong enough to strangle her???? He honestly was not convincing during his on air interview with Dr. Phil. You have to watch it @LeahBergen 5y
Cinfhen I often think about that little British girl who went missing while her parents were on vacation - @TrishB another too sad story 💔 5y
bullbunny @Cinfhen did you see that one special when they reinvestigate everything. And go through the times and have like a mock up of the scenes? They believe she was actually hit with the flashlight. In like a fit of anger. And was poked with of the train track parts. That was believed to be the taser marks. They tested it. And the toy tracks part, looked 5y
bullbunny @Cinfhen accidentally hit send...Really close. 5y
Cinfhen I didn‘t know about the taser marks being the same as toy train tracks - that makes sense!! And I was convinced the parents were covering something up. I knew about the flashlight @bullbunny I totally get how Burke looks extremely guilty 5y
TrishB That case is very controversial here - there are a huge amount of people that believe it was her parents - either accidentally or otherwise- then hid her body. As always with these things there are big discrepancies in the info and at the centre a lost and potentially dead child 😔 5y
bullbunny @Cinfhen Yeah in that special investigation they just looked at everything and noticed how there was a track out on it's own. The food found. He could have been eating it. Like a younger sibling woke up to, stole a piece and ran off. Angered by her stealing from him. And teasing. He picked up the flashlight, chucked it at her. It hit her in the end, knocked her out. So the parents covered it up 5y
Cinfhen But how did they explain the sexual assault?? And strangulation??? @bullbunny 5y
Cinfhen We‘ll never know the answers to these questions @TrishB but it chills me to the bones 5y
eanderson I always wondered if it was him! That kid creeped me out. I watched a special and in it they brought up several things about him. I guess some evidence was very childlike? Kinda weird! 5y
bullbunny @Cinfhen they claimed that broken stick found around the neck to strangle was longer and that the other half was used. To make it appear like sexual assault. The panties were new. Because she was a frequent bed wetter. And the mysterious DNA found, was probably from the worker packing the package 5y
Cinfhen Wow! What a miscarriage of justice @bullbunny 5y
bullbunny @Cinfhen agreed really sad 5y
Cinfhen Yea, he was definitely affected by whatever went on in that house @eanderson and it was nothing good 😢 5y
Billypar I remember when this case occurred, but not all of these details, or even that the brother was a suspect! Very sad and difficult to understand regardless of what the true story is 5y
LauraBeth I went to school with her step-sisters, Melinda and Beth. This was before their dad had left their mom and married Patsy and had JonBenet. Melinda and I played on the same softball team and I spent the night at her house - her dad seemed normal to me. I saw him at an Atlanta-Area coffee shop about ten years ago and that was the last I‘ve seen of him. I actually don‘t think that anyone in the family did it. 5y
Cinfhen That‘s crazy @LauraBeth it‘s such a sad story regardless. Patty passed away from cancer, their lives were destroyed and a beautiful little girl died. 5y
LauraBeth It‘s all sad and crazy. Beth died in a horrible car accident when she was only 21 or 22. She would light up any room she walked into. The entire family has been through so much. 5y
Cinfhen Wow, John Ramsey has been through so much. I saw him on an interview @LauraBeth He‘s remarried again and seemed somewhat at peace. He also came across as a really honest decent guy. It‘s too much to imagine. 5y
Reviewsbylola Wow @LauraBeth that‘s crazy you knew her older sisters. I read a book about Jonbenet within the past few years that talked about Beth‘s death as well and my heart broke for John Ramsey. He has had so much heartache in his life. 5y
Reviewsbylola And as for who the killer is, I‘ve always been flummoxed by this one. There‘s really no good suspect, although Burke does seem logical in the sense that I do not think Patsy or John did it, but I could see them covering for Burke. 5y
LauraBeth @Reviewsbylola I tend to lean towards the intrusion theory as opposed to Burke. I truly think that if he comes off as weird today it‘s because he‘s spent pretty much his entire life dealing with this and being under the umbrella of suspicion. I‘ve read reports as to how much money John Ramsey had and I would have never guessed that Beth and Melinda had a multimillionaire father. They lived upper middle class for sure - but nothing extreme. 5y
LauraBeth @Reviewsbylola this also makes the $118,000 ransom plausible to me. I could see someone assuming they had some money - but nothing like what he actually had. 5y
Cinfhen From what I‘ve read (and that‘s mostly People Magazine & Vanity Fair 🙄) @LauraBeth people question the validity of that VERY LONG WINDED 5 page ransom note written on Patsy‘s private stationary, and they wonder why there were no footprints at all in the snow outside their home?!?! IDK it‘s all so tragic (edited) 5y
LauraBeth @Cinfhen well People and VF are like my bibles so I can get behind their theories 😂 5y
Cinfhen Hahaha @LauraBeth well done 😘😘 5y
emilyhaldi We used to pick up every issue of National Enquirer at the grocery back when Jonbenet was on every cover 🙃 I‘m still totally confused by the whole thing! 5y
Cinfhen That interview with Dr. Phil & Burke was uncomfortable to watch. @emilyhaldi and yes.....The National Enquirer was quite the source of info 😁 5y
bullbunny @Cinfhen hey I just recalled something, did you recall that the 911 operator was never questioned in court? Like they said she couldn't say anything. Until then. But always kept the 911 recording. And so they played in. And discovered other voices in. When the mom thought she hung up, but didn't 5y
Cinfhen No, I don‘t remember that @bullbunny but that seems dubious 🙄I really need to investigate this case more. 5y
bullbunny @Cinfhen Yeah they played the recording, and very faintly you can hear other voices. And so with today's technology, they were able to bring it up. And you can faintly hear two different voices and sentences 5y
Cinfhen Wow!!! I know, the more you dissect this case the family really seems like the obvious suspects @bullbunny 5y
bullbunny @Cinfhen right! Didn't want to be childless.. so they say someone else did it. Say it enough you believe it. And it's crazy how he was married before too 5y
Cinfhen So is your theory Burke accidentally killed JonBenet and the parents covered it up?!? @bullbunny 5y
bullbunny @Cinfhen Yes I do, I believe in a fit of anger. Over a little sister stealing a pineapple from his bowl, without asking. He got upset and chucked the flashlight at her, with the intention of missing her, but scaring her. And actually hit her in the head, killing her immediately 5y

I read too much last night. I put down the book around 12am only to end up on the Internet to find out what's the latest on the (still, cold) case. Four hours of sleep later and here I am waiting for the kids to get ready for school and starting off my day like a zombie!!!
