New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins is back with a thrilling new gothic suspense set in a Gulf Coast beach motel where hurricane season can be murder. St. Medards Bay, Alabama is famous for three things: the deadly hurricanes that regularly sweep into town, the Rosalie Inn, a century-old hotel thats survived every one of those storms, and Lo Bailey, the local girl infamously accused of the murder of her lover, political scion Landon Fitzroy, during Hurricane Marie in 1984. When Geneva Corliss, the current owner of the Rosalie Inn, hears a writer is coming to town to research the crime that put St. Medards Bay on the map, shes less interested in solving a whodunnit than in how a successful true crime book might help the struggling inns bottom line. But to her surprise, August Fletcher doesnt come to St. Medards Bay alone. With him is none other than Lo Bailey herself. Lo says shes returned to her hometown to clear her name once and for all, but the closer Geneva gets to both Lo and August, the more she wonders if Lo is actually back to settle old scores. As the summer heats up and another monster storm begins twisting its way towards St. Medards Bay, Geneva learns that some people can be just as destructiveand as deadlyas any hurricane, and that the truth of what happened to Landon Fitzroy may not be the only secret Lo is keeping...

A true crime writer investigates an old case involving a young mistress who was suspected but never proven to have murdered her lover during a hurricane. This is by far my favourite Rachel Hawkins novel to date. Run don‘t walk. Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin‘s Press for the ARC.

3.5⭐️

This was an entertaining read, had some interesting twists, but it still left me wanting more…Or maybe less.

Everyone in the story seems to be carrying a secret, and as those were revealed, I found myself thinking: Well, this was convenient…

Also, one of the main events that happen in the story was heavily hinted at, so that took the shock out of it.

Overall, happy I read it, but expected more.

4.5⭐️

A murder from 40 years ago, a family that has a legacy, and a hotel, Rosalie, that has withstood years of hurricanes. Sounds interesting, right? Well, I had a little trouble getting into it. I think because I couldn't figure out, in some parts, who was actually telling the story. But, once I got that figured out, I got into the book, and by the 60% mark, I was flying through it.

Ellen, Fredia, and Gloria grow up together. By the time their nineteen, things they aren't mature enough to handle happen. Gloria, known as Lo, meets Landon Fitzroy, a married man. Soon she's accused of murdering him, but gets off. A journalist contacts her to write a book about what really happened. He suggest the go back to the town and stay at the Rosalie Inn. What will the book reveal? Is there more to the murder?

Hawkins had my heart pounding by the end of the book. Talk about twists! She had them and had my jaw dropping. The turns the book took were edge of your seat turns. I rated it 4.5 because I had trouble at the first, but had it not been for that, it would have been a 5. If you enjoy psychological suspense/thrillers, do yourself a favor and pre-order or get the book when it comes out!

There comes a point when the twists and turns become a tangled mess instead of an intricately plotted story. The shifting points of view and timelines and the soapy drama were just too much. The ending was not a surprise at all. Due to be released 1/6/26. Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for an advance copy.

I loved this book. It kept my interest all the way to the very end. A storm is coming. Both literally and figuratively. Set in Southern Alabama. Along the coast. Right where hurricanes hit...

Three best friends and a hurricane... What could possibly go wrong??

This is an atmospheric thriller set in Alabama. It has several flashbacks and deals with the destruction caused by several hurricanes that have hit the small-town setting. The action takes place primarily at an historic beach hotel and features some strong women and some less than wonderful men, so it does have a feminist feel that I enjoyed. There were a few surprise twists, and I quite enjoyed the book. Thanks to Edelweiss+ for the ARC. 4/5

Considering that I live on the coast of Florida, I really shouldn‘t like books that feature hurricanes, but I do. This one is about a murder that uses the Hurricane as cover/reason someone dies.
