A murder from 40 years ago, a family that has a legacy, and a hotel, Rosalie, that has withstood years of hurricanes. Sounds interesting, right? Well, I had a little trouble getting into it. I think because I couldn't figure out, in some parts, who was actually telling the story. But, once I got that figured out, I got into the book, and by the 60% mark, I was flying through it.

I really enjoyed this book. It was inspired by the writing of Mary Shelly's "Frankenstein." It takes place at a Villa in Italy. The book is told with Mari and Emily's POV switching back and forth from 1974 to the present. Emily and Chase are both writers and have gone to the Villa to relax and write their books. I have read two other books by Rachel Hawkins, The Wife Upstairs and Reckless Girls.
Ellen, Fredia, and Gloria grow up together. By the time their nineteen, things they aren't mature enough to handle happen. Gloria, known as Lo, meets Landon Fitzroy, a married man. Soon she's accused of murdering him, but gets off. A journalist contacts her to write a book about what really happened. He suggest the go back to the town and stay at the Rosalie Inn. What will the book reveal? Is there more to the murder?
Hawkins had my heart pounding by the end of the book. Talk about twists! She had them and had my jaw dropping. The turns the book took were edge of your seat turns. I rated it 4.5 because I had trouble at the first, but had it not been for that, it would have been a 5. If you enjoy psychological suspense/thrillers, do yourself a favor and pre-order or get the book when it comes out!
