MemoirsForMe @rubyslippersreads You must watch the extended interview on YouTube. There‘s a funny story about her daughters and her atonement about a certain cat in French Braid. 😉 2d
rubyslippersreads @MemoirsForMe Thanks! I‘ll definitely watch. 😸 1d

French Braid | Anne Tyler

Pickpick

First book by #AnneTyler. #FrenchBraid is a very well-crafted and quiet book about a family, with a focus on the matriarch. There were a lot of characters & names in this, but it didn‘t feel stressful.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️,75/5

Ladder of Years | Anne Tyler

Pickpick

#LadderofYears #AnneTyler #BookSpinBingo

Delia Grinstead, 40-year-old mother of three almost-grown children, on a sudden impulse, walks away from her marriage, hitches a ride into the unknown, and settles in a strange new town. But soon after she begins her impersonal, unencumbered new life, fresh responsibilities inevitably accumulate.

EadieB This is a story about the 90's but feels more like the 50's. It has themes of abandonment, identity and a second chance for love. Has bits of humor but depressing in parts. Tyler's books are enjoyable. I think I will read Dinner At The Homesick Restaurant next. Read this and find out how Delia seems to have found a new and exciting life. 4y

Mehso-so

This was a very different kind of read for me. Anne Tyler is a prolific writer. If not for her writing I would've finished the book. Despite the slow-paced plot I enjoyed reading and getting to know the characters. I might check out her future book(s) if it comes highly recommended. cassareada This was the first book I read by her and I was definitely not a fan of it. I was told not to give up on Anne Tyler and that "The Accidental Tourist" is one of her better books. So I'll eventually read that to give her a second chance. 7y
Jee_HookedOnBookz @cassiopia thanks for the recommendation! I'm going to give that a try :) I liked her writing style. I just felt the premise and plot a little too quiet for my liking... Good thing I enjoyed the characters :) 7y
cassareada @Jee_HookedOnBookz you're welcome! For me, I don't know if it was her style of writing, the pace, or the lack of action that turned me off. In her defense I did just finished Dark Places, so going from a suspense book to a lazy Sunday reading may have had some influence. But I did enjoy a few of the characters like Cheryl and Sir Joe, oh and Airplane. 7y
Jee_HookedOnBookz They're my fav too :) it's hard not to love Airplane 😊 do you have a blog? Would love to follow you! :) 7y
