It turns out four years is long enough to burn out, get pushed into reinvention, learn you‘re autistic, build a new life (with the same wife and a few more cats), and still miss the gentle chaos of Litsy. I was #BookishMarginalia back then; I still am, just with better self-knowledge and a lot more joy. If we knew each other before, hi again. If not, I‘m glad we‘re starting fresh. I‘m now a self-employed writer & coach who still 🫶🏼 books!

It had been 30+ years since I read this book! It really stood the test of time. Just as good now as it was then. (Whew!!)

This book was so good! As a debut novel, it is 20x better than a novel I read recently that was probably that author's 20th novel. The characters were real - fully developed with flaws, fears and all. The story about a Vietnam Vet who was convicted of murder - but did he do it? - really drew me in. The suspense was real and the ending was most satisfying. Looking forward to more of this author's work.

My first time reading this author. I think he tried to do too much: police procedural, whodunit, friendship drama, family drama... it did not come together so well. Not bad, but an unsatisfying ending. I'm surprised Beth and Kate didn't know each other better (they were "best friends"). I remember 7 accounts of women in footwear and 5 of them were hiking boots, which bothered me (see my previous post). Meh.

Wow!! I loved this book! At first I thought it was my diary. Haha! Seriously, who knew I related so strongly to a robot. A Murderbot no less! The story grabbed me quickly and I liked the main character a lot. I want to know more about the secondary characters, so I'm glad the series continues.

The third in the series. I am reading them in parallel to the TV show. The book was great! I love Cardinal and Delorme together (and the actors who portray them have great chemistry). Cardinal's relationship with his wife is explored some more. The show diverged somewhat from the book but I didn't mind.

Been reading about ketogenic diets for 7 months now. The science seems good, and in between my work-related science papers, I am learning more about this diet. So then I started one. Within a couple of days my asthma symptoms were gone! That alone is worth it, but I am hoping for fat loss, too. This book is a little extreme, compared to some other resources. A good start, nonetheless.

I struggled to finish this one, but glad I finished. There were "yikes, I'm pretty sure that's textbook Orientalism" passages. And other parts where Kipling actually seems to be openly mocking British colonialism more than I'd expected. And still other stretches where I was honestly just falling asleep. It's just the risk you run with some late 19th/early 20th century novels. Not my favorite but glad I stuck it out. #litsyatoz #bookishmarginalia
