It had been 30+ years since I read this book! It really stood the test of time. Just as good now as it was then. (Whew!!)
This was the cover art on the old book. 😄😄😄

FlowerFairy Oh I loved this one as a child! No idea how many times I read it. Chose it at the school‘s book fair and I still have my original copy with this same cover art. 6y
No_One @FlowerFairy it‘s so nice for me to find so many people who also enjoyed this book! After 30-ish years! Amazing. 🙂💙 6y

This book was so good! As a debut novel, it is 20x better than a novel I read recently that was probably that author's 20th novel. The characters were real - fully developed with flaws, fears and all. The story about a Vietnam Vet who was convicted of murder - but did he do it? - really drew me in. The suspense was real and the ending was most satisfying. Looking forward to more of this author's work.

morgan_krahn I loved this one too and find myself recommending it quite often ☺️ 6y
No_One @morgan_krahn It may be the best book I‘ve read so far, this year. 🙂📚 6y
azulaco This is on my list for next month! It‘s been sitting on my TBR pile far too long. 6y
No_One @azulaco for me too, it was on my TBR for over a year, at least! So worth it! 😊 6y

My first time reading this author. I think he tried to do too much: police procedural, whodunit, friendship drama, family drama... it did not come together so well. Not bad, but an unsatisfying ending. I'm surprised Beth and Kate didn't know each other better (they were "best friends"). I remember 7 accounts of women in footwear and 5 of them were hiking boots, which bothered me (see my previous post). Meh.

Zelma Excellent final tally of hiking boots. 👍 6y
No_One @Zelma 😂😂😂😂. I only just saw this message! I‘m glad you appreciated my effort. Have a relaxing weekend in your boots! 😃 6y

Wow!! I loved this book! At first I thought it was my diary. Haha! Seriously, who knew I related so strongly to a robot. A Murderbot no less! The story grabbed me quickly and I liked the main character a lot. I want to know more about the secondary characters, so I'm glad the series continues.
#LitsyAtoZ #W #BookishMarginalia

LectricSheep Murderbots? Yes please! 👍🏻 6y
No_One @LectricSheep how about a Murderbot that doesn‘t like its job? 😄 6y
LectricSheep Probably better than a murderbot that does like its job. 😬 6y

The third in the series. I am reading them in parallel to the TV show. The book was great! I love Cardinal and Delorme together (and the actors who portray them have great chemistry). Cardinal's relationship with his wife is explored some more. The show diverged somewhat from the book but I didn't mind.

Shemac77 I quite enjoy this series. Just started watching the tv show. And hoping it‘s half as good as the books! 6y
No_One @Shemac77 To me, there are some major differences, but it does not detract from the story. I like them both! 6y

Been reading about ketogenic diets for 7 months now. The science seems good, and in between my work-related science papers, I am learning more about this diet. So then I started one. Within a couple of days my asthma symptoms were gone! That alone is worth it, but I am hoping for fat loss, too. This book is a little extreme, compared to some other resources. A good start, nonetheless.

DivineDiana Interesting! 6y
Aseleener 👍 I lost 80 lbs. by ditching carbs. My husband and I have eaten this way for two and a half years and still going strong. Glad you found something that makes you feel better. 6y
Txdmarie I have thought about doing this but the thought of losing my pasta scares me. I‘m Italian so pasta is life. Lol. I‘ve also heard that you get sluggish the first few days. Is that true? 6y

susanw Been doing this for about 18 months. And have never felt better. I never feel bloated. Eating this way really fixes a lot of problems caused by inflammation in the body. At first you do miss the carbs but pretty shortly after it goes away. The added fat is totally satisfying. 6y
AngelErin I did keto and lost 97 lbs! I still eat low carb high protein and I feel great. It does fix a lot of issues. 6y
No_One @Aseleener wow! That is quite an achievement! Congrats! 🙂 and thank you! 6y
No_One @Txdmarie yes, I‘ll be honest, I had a few days of awful headaches, cloudy head and sluggishness. But it does not last! Everyone is different but they say it takes approx 3 days to become ketogenic. I also love pasta, but the saving grace of this diet is that it is high fat. That makes a huge difference in satiety. 6y
No_One @susanw that is very encouraging! Yes, besides treating asthma and fat loss I want to do what I can to reduce inflammation, which leads to all kinds of disease states. Cancer is my biggest fear. 🙁 6y
No_One @AngelErin thank you! I am happy to hear of people‘s positive experiences. It helps! 6y
Txdmarie @No_One maybe if I started on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday by Monday when I go back to work it wouldn‘t be so bad 6y
AngelErin @No_One I think it‘s great! Good luck to you! 😀😀 6y
No_One @Txdmarie it takes a couple days before you feel bad.... maybe start on a Wed or Thurs? Good luck!! 6y
No_One @AngelErin 👍🏼 I also meant to say that 97 lbs is a big deal! I‘m in awe! 🙂 6y
Aseleener @Txdmarie It's caused by an imbalance in electrolytes, so the best thing to do is drink beef broth or an electrolyte drink like Propel. It helps a lot. 6y
Txdmarie Will keep both those in mind @Aseleener and @No_One Thank you! 6y
minkyb Great discussion. 6y
AngelErin @No_One Thank you! Keto combined with getting out of a crappy marriage really helped. 😂😂 Let me know if you ever have any keto questions. ♥️ 6y
No_One @AngelErin oh! 😂 well, congrats on both fronts! Both big changes, and those changes don‘t come easy! Absolutely, I will ask for advice if I need it. Thank you!! 🌷🌻🌹😀 6y
CherryPie I've been on and off Keto for 25 years (neuro probs). I no longer go off it. Check out reddit and youtube for hours more fun (and arguments). 😀 6y
No_One @CherryPie that is quite the testimonial! Amazing. I hope you are well all the time now. 😊 I have seen some of the discussion on reddit and Youtube and you're right! Lots of opinions and good/bad resources out there! 😄 6y
CherryPie I am well. Thank you! It used to be that we were supposed to transition back to some DASH-ish type diet. Not anymore (thank goodness). BTW my username has nothing to do with sugar; it's my fave color and cat's name. 😹 6y
No_One @CherryPie hahaha!! I did notice your username and then I thought about cherry pie and cherry cheesecake. 😄. No judgement, even if it was your name! That‘s cute.... a cat named pie? 😄 6y
CherryPie Named after the horses in National Velvet and International Velvet. I prefer salty flavors. 🐴👍 I like Ketoconnect on IG and youtube. Although they don't do a medical keto, they're into fitness. 6y
No_One @CherryPie Awesome! I will check out Ketoconnect. 😊 thanks again! 6y

I struggled to finish this one, but glad I finished. There were "yikes, I'm pretty sure that's textbook Orientalism" passages. And other parts where Kipling actually seems to be openly mocking British colonialism more than I'd expected. And still other stretches where I was honestly just falling asleep. It's just the risk you run with some late 19th/early 20th century novels. Not my favorite but glad I stuck it out. #litsyatoz #bookishmarginalia

Bklover Do you put your Litsy handle on the outside or on the inside so they don't know? (edited) 7y
robinb @Bklover This is my first time participating, but I put my Litsy name on the inside in my letter...not sure if that's correct? Have you done this before? I'm excited, and it was lots of fun picking out goodies for my secret match! ❤️ 7y
