A phenomenal non-fiction book and movie recommendation for #blackhistorymonth.

My masters is in forensic psychology so this story is powerful to me. Heartbreaking, motivating, educational and important too. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for each.

And Michael B. Jordan is my #1 celebrity crush... let's be honest here. He's beautiful to look at. Watch it. Read it.

ncsufoxes My son read this in high school & loved it. He took an ethnic literature course for his senior language requirement (this was 3 years ago & it was a pilot class his school in San Diego was testing out). We have a copy that I need to pull & read. 5mo

Eye opening account of the author‘s experience fighting for wrongly convicted and over sentenced people on death row and with life sentences. Even after commuting, years or decades of life has been lost to the prison system with rarely any compensation for the lives damaged. In some cases, innocent people and even children have been executed in American prisons.

Butterfinger Oh, goodness. Children? We do have to change the system. The tagged is about how girls of color are targeted in elementary and middle schools because of the stereotype of being abrasive and loud. There are few ways to escape the hardships, so they get into gangs and prostitution. It was really an eye-opener. All because of how the teachers branded them as trouble.

TheBookHippie @Butterfinger they just lowered the age of arresting children to older than six in Florida and many other states a few years ago. 6mo

Butterfinger @TheBookHippie @Cosmos_Moon_River let's continue to be reactive instead of proactive. Schools need more training for SEL in elementary and not worry about tests. It breaks my heart. I know I am preaching to the choir. 6mo

Cosmos_Moon_River @TheBookHippie so sad. Six year olds do not understand what they are doing and should never be arrested. Investigation into family life would probably be more appropriate and guiding the child with education and love. So sad, and I feel racial disparities are only going to grow with this administration. Continuing to dehumanize the “others”. 6mo

Cosmos_Moon_River I wish I would have been aware of his work before. He has done, and maybe still does, work in my city. @Butterfinger it‘s getting harder and harder to keep up the good fight and stay positive. 6mo

I had seen the movie and was a little familiar with the authors story. It was good to read this and get more of the story and more details. The Equal Justice Initiative does amazing and much needed work. Thankful for the work they are doing.
