I have always been curious about the life of younger Dumbledore, and yay for what's coming up film-wise. Except for the Johnny Depp thing. I hope he can curb his tendency to overplay characters. But what a complex chapter. Who can Harry believe? Despite his #disillusionment, he does need to try harder to be a better friend to Hermione. Also why does Rowling always refer to Gellert's looks?

So much #determination here, this time from a lot of secondary characters - Romilda's attempts to 'woo' Harry, Ernie's desire to apparate, Crabbe's fight with Malfoy, Twycross's need to teach these 6th formers, and Slughorn's ongoing crusade to win Harry over. They are determined to succeed. Rowling generates much of the LOLs here from these efforts.

This image turns up regularly in my fan art search for this challenge, and today after reading this chapter, it all became clear. Such a cute scene. Wish we could spend a bit more time with Hedwig, to be honest. Anyway the room of requirement is another plot device that is used skilfully and happily not too often.

What can I say about Harry here? His inability to empathise with Ron isn't surprising. His wrath against Malloy is warranted, and can someone explain to me how Snape continues to get away with his outrageously inappropriate behaviour?

The first crack in Harry's friendship with Ron, one of several that persist throughout the reminder of the books. We can talk about Ron's insecurities, but there is a an element of manipulation, both on the part of Voldemort, but also Rowling herself.

The last chapters of these book leave readers satisfied and at peace (until the next time). All is explained, and each new book sees Harry that bit happier when he leaves to head back to Little Whinging.
