It might have just been a right time, right book situation, but I loved this novel. Tina, in England, writes a letter to a professor that she doesn‘t know has passed away and Anders, in Denmark, responds on his behalf. The two continue to exchange letters getting to know one another, as well as learning more about themselves. #LitsyAtoZ #Y #Booked2019 #FoodOnCover (raspberries)

BarbaraTheBibliophage Sounds fun! 👊🏻♥️📚 3mo
Jas16 I adored this book. 3mo
Cinfhen Interesting cover design choice!!! Did raspberries play into the storyline??!! Glad you circled back to a previous season 😊keeping us on our toes!! 3mo

Bookzombie @Jas16 Yay! I‘m so glad. 3mo
Bookzombie @Cinfhen I‘m behind on the challenge this year. 😕 Yes, raspberries did play into the storyline. The characters talk about how when you pick raspberries and then look back there are ones you missed. That is what happens in life too. The books explains it so much better, lol. 3mo
Cinfhen I like the metaphor 😋 3mo
Bookzombie @Cinfhen Me too! 3mo

Overall I enjoyed the story. It is well written. But I found the portrayal of Lily‘s abusive father problematic.

Cinfhen I remember liking this book but I don‘t remember the father 🤪 6mo

The Bobby Gold Stories | Anthony Bourdain

Bobby Gold takes the fall for a friend and ends up in jail for 8 years. This follows his life as a bouncer and strong arm for the same friend involved in dodgy business. Hardboiled gangsters, lots of restaurant scenes and some explicit sex scenes.

I loved this and still can't get over what we lost when Anthony Bourdain took his life. An unnecessary and sad ending to a life well lived. You are missed! #Booked2019 #foodoncover #Spring #1toGo

BarbaraTheBibliophage Great review, and why haven‘t I heard of this book? Look how young he is ... 😰😰👨🏻‍🍳👨🏻‍🍳 7mo
IamIamIam @BarbaraTheBibliophage I wanted a pic that showed Bourdain in his natural habitat, even if he was a chameleon! There's even a bit of travel stuck in at the end!! Don't miss this one. You'll bust it out in an afternoon! 7mo

Book club read for April! Libby told me there were two people waiting (probably other book club members), so I went ahead and finished it. Meanwhile, I‘ve only just started the book for March, and the meeting is Monday!

Anyway, this is an enjoyable #cozymystery with #foodoncover and a likable main character. Some of the side characters are a little two-dimensional, but all the food sounds amazing. Don‘t read it when you‘re hungry! #Booked2019

Mehso-so

What starts out as a slapstick (the days before a wedding when the family is preparing for the big day and the midlife crisis of the bride‘s father is reaching a height), first turns into a tragedy and then spins out of control - for me at least.
An amusing fluffy read but one to forget about quickly.

Librarybelle I read this one when it first came out...don‘t remember much about it, other than rich people problems and some odd humor! 9mo

jessinikkip I have heard mixed reviews about this. I hate when a book isnt really remarkable 9mo

CarolynM I'm about half way through. I like Winn less and less as each page goes by😒 9mo
Cinfhen I thought the writing was better than the standard fluff but I felt and I think I mentioned that certain plots boarded on absurdity. I still enjoyed it as I‘ve read some heavy books and I liked the lighter moments. I agree @CarolynM Winn is more of a caricature than a character (edited) 9mo
BarbaraBB @CarolynM @Cinfhen The writing is good, definitely, and so are the dialogues. Maybe I shouldn‘t say ‘fluffy‘ but I felt it spun out of control (Winn, indeed, but also Agatha!) and I felt that some of the characters were not or not well worked out (Daphne, Bitty, all other brides maids). Only Livia and Dominique came to live. So unbalanced. Why?! (edited) 9mo
BarbaraBB @NatalieR Thanks! It‘s my yoga stuff indeed 😀 9mo
Cinfhen I agree, the writer‘s debut flaws were a little obvious but I still think what could have been utter rubbish was saved by insightful smart prose. But I hated certain parts, like the dog, whale and especially the end with Winn. Even the golf cart incident was a little too silly. 9mo
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen The whale and the Fenn‘s house made no sense. That‘s where I lost it. And yes that golf cart incident... 😂 9mo

I liked this one. A woman who seems to be close to death reflects back on one summer, hinting at something that might have happened. #foodintitle #foodoncover #halfbloodbingo
