#DynamicDs Day 7: I loved seeing how the two friends were able to tell each other about the things they love through their dancing hands. The Afterword provides information about Filipino Sign Language and how it is distinct from American Sign Language. People tend to assume homogeneity among the non-speaking, #differentlyabled communities, and this book shows how this is not the case. My review of this award-winning book: https://wp.me/pDlzr-r64
My students responded to this book with audible gasps and sighs of relief. I thought the way the book was made was more interesting than the book.
#FeelinTheLove Day 13: When Llewellyn meets Evelyn, Llewellyn hands her a jar filled with cherry light. Since then, Llewellyn and Evelyn collect things together. One day, Evelyn tells Llewellyn that her family is moving away. What will happen to their friendship? In a Jar is a beautiful reminder that friendship knows no distance. #LongDistanceLove - Fats‘ review here: https://gatheringbooks.org/2020/04/27/monday-reading-bunny-stories-parting/
See how Luna puts her cute face in between me and my book? Clever girl.

After reading the Red Jacket, I let the kids design their own. They needed to include infinite pockets and this kid chose kittens. I need a kitten now.
3 ⭐ This is a sequel book to Something Wrong. This book is fine. It‘s over long by a lot. One of the characters is one that I think talks to hear themselves speak. But they do it in the guise of helping their friend. That is the important lesson to learn. It also shows that someone can say they‘re fine when they‘re not fine, but at what point is the line of finding out what fine actually means.
I needed a book character with one of my names for a book challenge, & my friend found me one. This is a middle grade story about a girl who has OCD. She ends up being in a community theater musical, a new experience for her. Friend drama & dealing with her grandmother & mother‘s arguments are stressors. Very responsible about mental health & normalizes therapy. A really good book that a middle schooler should enjoy.
Such a great book about navigating friendship, family and grief as a young teen. My 13 year old theater kid loved the setting of a summer theater camp. The musical the camp is putting on? Wicked! (Kudos to the publisher for excellent timing. 😁) Swinarski captures tween/teen voices so well. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
