Having nightmares of
uncontrollable classrooms.
I'll no longer sub.

P. S. And it's my 4th year of retirement. 🤣

Roary47 My students are rough this year. I haven‘t had the same sub twice. 🥹 3d
TheBookHippie We have college students who now sub each teacher has a college student and the students get paid. 3d
dabbe @Roary47 The more I've been removed from it, the harder the kids seem. Here's to your well-earned summer! 😍 3d
See All 37 Comments
dabbe @TheBookHippie It's really hard to get subs these days, isn't it? 3d
TheBookHippie @dabbe They try to bribe me all the time …. 3d
AnnCrystal Kids seem to have lost their childhood these days, just in the news where two stories...“2 days ago — Police arrested a 13-year-old and a 12-year-old for a series of burglaries and vandalis“ and “5 days ago — Brothers, 7 and 9, Engaged in Armed Standoff with Police.“ Unreal! The poor teachers who must have to deal with these rascals.

👏🏼🐝🙏🏼🏫🐝💝.
3d
TheBookHippie @AnnCrystal only about 5 percent of that here and I‘m in Title One Schools. It‘s more extreme poverty and hunger by me. The behavior problems are in the “white” schools and private schools including weapons, rape and theft. Unreal. 3d
kspenmoll 😂😂👏🏻👏🏻 3d
JenlovesJT47 Lol 😆💛🐝🖤 3d
AnnCrystal @TheBookHippie there's something terribly unbalanced in the world 🙏🏼😢🌍🌎🌏💝. 3d
TheBookHippie @AnnCrystal I feed as many as I can as often as I can. And give out as many books as I can! (edited) 3d
dabbe @TheBookHippie Oh, I bet they do! How much do subs make in your district? We make $100 a day, $120 if it's long-term. 3d
dabbe @AnnCrystal 😱😳😱 3d
dabbe @TheBookHippie The middle school I taught at awas Title 1. The high school I retired at was white privilege. Both in the same district. 😳 3d
dabbe @kspenmoll My last sub day was a day of ALL freshmen. It about did me in. 🤣😍🤣 (edited) 3d
dabbe @JenlovesJT47 🤣🐝💛 3d
TheBookHippie @dabbe same here we have 5 Title One and three very privileged and then about 10 that are everything in between .. our district alone is 9000. We have a huge district because it‘s everything not in the city proper. 3d
TheSpineView Kudos to all the teachers! I would have nightmares too. 3d
dabbe @TheSpineView I hope my brain finally gets over the 30 years of fun-filled trauma. 🤣 Just let me dream of lakes, mountains, and trees, please. 😍 3d
dabbe @TheBookHippie Ours is one of the biggest in the state with 27,000 students. I think we have around 15 Title 1 schools. 3d
AnnCrystal @TheBookHippie 📚💝📚💝. 3d
TheBookHippie @dabbe WOWIE. Also- I tried to take sabbatical this year…. Making decisions about next year. 3d
dabbe @TheBookHippie Do what you need to do for YOU. I know if you take another sabbatical, you'll still go in and work. Because you care about those kids, and they need you. At my high school, I'm not needed at all. They have all the privilege and everything that goes with that. So, it's easier to stay away and not sub. It's the 1st year I declined to do AP test proctoring as well. #timeformetomoveon #ifonlymybrainwouldlisten 3d
Reggie I used to be a waiter and had nightmares all the time about the restaurant. Great haiku. 3d
Eggs I still have nightmares about middle school…😳 3d
TheBookHippie @dabbe 🙃😬🤷🏻‍♀️ still deciding. I was a nurse for 20 years I would dream I lost the key to the med cart or reach for my stethoscope around my neck while I was asleep 🤣🫣😂 2d
bellabella I was homeschooled all the way until I graduated high school. I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about, but I can guess by the way I see middleschoolers now. It's very sad. 2d
SaunteringVaguelyDownwards I was fortunate enough to get my teaching job without subbing first - those who do it have my utmost respect! (Except for that one sub who ignored my detailed sub plans to keep us on pace with the novel we were reading and just "discussed current events" in my English classes.) 2d
dabbe @Reggie I was a waitress once, too! And had some nightmares there also! Usually in those, I drop all of the dishes, and the cook has to yell something like “Redo!“ 🤣 2d
dabbe @Eggs The most awkard time period ever. 🤣 2d
dabbe @TheBookHippie #oy! Losing the key to the med cart! 😱 2d
dabbe @bellabella It's exactly what my pic portrays. Kids doing all kinds of things except what they're supposed to be doing and me standing in the middle of the room, not knowing whose behavior to try to stop first. 😱 2d
dabbe @SaunteringVaguelyDownwards So was I. I was a teacher fro 30 years until I retired in 2021; my last year was the COVID year. I subbed after that, and the last day I did it was when I had to deal with freshmen all day. That was enough. 😳 2d
bellabella @dabbe 😂 😬 2d

We're on to list 2! Bye bye, scary 1700s. All of these are from the 1800s!
1. Survey link: https://www.listchallenges.com/1001-books-you-must-read-before-you-die-1800s
2. Share your score if you'd like.
3. Share your 3 favorites from the list or 3 that you might be interested in reading, or 3 you thought were horrible or a combo of whatever you'd like.
4. Tag a few!
Tagging JUST A FEW who've played before. 🤩

jenniferw88 1700s were NOT scary for me thanks to my MA 🤣 6d
CSeydel Yikes, only 13, although a couple of my favorite books did make the list (Silas Marner and Tess of the D‘Urbervilles) 6d
jenniferw88 18 this time! 6d
See All 65 Comments
Chrissyreadit Only 9- but a lot of nf books. 6d
Lynnsoprano Wow, only 12! However, there are 19th century authors who are missing from this list, whose books I would have expected to make the list—Hawthorne, Austen, Brontë, to name a few. 6d
Bookwormjillk Ooof only 9! 6d
Susanita @Lynnsoprano I guess the divisions are not entirely exact with so many books. There were some Austen and Brontë last week. In fact, without them my score would have been even worse! 6d
Lynnsoprano @susanita Ah, that explains it. I was down with COVID last week—not bad except for the headache. I‘ll have to go back and look at that list. 6d
BarkingMadRead I only had 15. I own like 5 or so more but haven‘t read them yet 🙈 6d
Bklover 15- thanks to a years ago obsession with Jules Verne and HG Wells. And, of course, #hashtagbrigade 6d
Librarybelle So bizarre—I did worse this week than last with only 13! And I call myself a classics reader! 🙄 6d
willaful 12 for me. Alice and Little Women my favs, of course! I'd like to read What Maisie Knew. Calling the #HashtagBrigade ! 😁 6d
dabbe @jenniferw88 Yay for you! I find them rather terrifying myself. 🤣 6d
dabbe @CSeydel I think my score will be right around there, too! TESS was my #1 fave book in 2023 with the #hashtagbrigade! And we're currently reading THE MILL ON THE FLOSS. I loved MIDDLEMARCH, too. Is SILAS your favorite of hers? Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 6d
dabbe @jenniferw88 #woohooyou Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 6d
dabbe @Chrissyreadit 🎯🩵🎯! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 6d
dabbe @Lynnsoprano There are still more books from the 1800s coming your way! 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 6d
dabbe @BarkingMadRead We need to get them into the #hashtagbrigade! 😍 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 6d
dabbe @Bookwormjillk I feel it! I haven't taken it yet, but I think I'll score around the same! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 6d
dabbe @Susanita @Lynnsoprano The list I have is ordered by centuries, but not necessarily in chronological order of that century. So, the 1800s could have one from 1813, then the next from 1802, then the next from 1889, and so on. 🤷‍♀️ 6d
dabbe @Lynnsoprano I hope you're feeling better! 😍 6d
dabbe @Bklover IKR? I still need to read WAR OF THE WORLDS. I've read his others, but not that one! 😱 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 6d
dabbe @Librarybelle I think I'll score worse, too! But, man, some of those titles I have never even heard of! I'm more of a British Lit classics girl, not a world one. Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 6d
dabbe @willaful Ooh, that one does sound good for the #hashtagbrigade, doesn't it? Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 6d
Bklover Thanks for the tag! I truly appreciate it. 🩷🩷🩷. Also loved Tess with #hashtagbrigade (edited) 6d
Susanita @Lynnsoprano Ugh. I hope you feel better! 6d
Eggs 💗🌺💖 6d
CogsOfEncouragement 19 for me this round. 6d
ImperfectCJ I missed last week, so I'm playing catch-up. I've read 17 from this round. Love Alice and was surprised how much I enjoyed Kim and Sister Carrie when I read them. Now to post about last week's list! 6d
dabbe @Bklover 💜💚💜 6d
dabbe @Eggs 💜💚💜 6d
dabbe @CogsOfEncouragement We scored pretty closely together this time! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💚💜 6d
dabbe @ImperfectCJ We're close in our scores! Added your choices to my TBR. Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💚💜 6d
tpixie @dabbe yikes! 9% I am currently reading Les MIs! December 31 that‘ll get me up to 10%! ❤️‍🔥. @dabbe @CSeydel Tess is a favorite ❤️ (edited) 6d
CSeydel @tpixie it‘s so good. Reminds me, I‘m due for a re-read … on the other hand, I still haven‘t read Jude the Obscure. Decisions decisions 6d
CSeydel @dabbe believe it or not, I haven‘t read Mill on the Floss OR Middlemarch (despite having the latter on my shelf for like 3 years, gazing dolefully at me every time I walk by with another book in my hand). But yes Silas Marner is one of my favorite books of all books! 6d
Faranae 30! Some of these authors feel over-represented, like they could have just chosen 1 or max 2 by that author and fit someone else in. Some of these I really have to vote against! I read André Gide's “fruits of the earth“ in French and yikes. Also I love Sherlock but just put the Hound on there and move on! 6d
rwmg 29 Brings home how Anglocentric my 19th century reading has been, even if not completely so. But an embarrassing number where I've never heard of book or author. 6d
AnnCrystal
Thanks for the tag
📚☺️👍🏼💝.
(edited) 6d
peaKnit Ope, 5! I also love Tess, I see she is a popular read! I read it in Highschool. 6d
Daisey I‘ve read 30 from this week‘s list, and that‘s with consistently reading from the 1001 list for the last several years. 6d
tpixie @Daisey 🩷🩷🩷 6d
tpixie @CSeydel I know it‘s so hard to do a reread when there‘s so many other books still left to read! 6d
dabbe @tpixie You're in good company; most of us are between 5 and 25! Here's hoping the 1900s are better for all of us! And I think we should be able to include LES as 3 books just for its length alone! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💚💜 6d
dabbe @CSeydel And SILAS is the one of hers I haven't read! 🤣 I adored MIDDLEMARCH and am enjoying MILL, though MIDDLE is better IMHO. I'm moving SILAS up on the TBR! 😍 6d
dabbe @Faranae The Sherlock is a hard one for me as I am a MAJOR Sherlock fan. But I see your point. Perhaps only one book per author, right? Yet some writers are way better than others and contributed more to the overall literary aesthetics of history. Hard choices all around. BTW, you beat my sorry butt. Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💚💜 6d
dabbe @rwmg 🩵🎯🩵 So many world authors I've never heard of, nor their books. I need the clock to slow down so that I can get to them! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💚💜 6d
dabbe @AnnCrystal YW! 🥰 6d
dabbe @peaKnit I applaud any teacher who had high schoolers read TESS. I adored that book! 😍 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💚💜 6d
dabbe @Daisey You know, some of them just don't look that appealing to me. I don't care how low my score may be, if I'm not even interested by the cover or the little snippet provided in the 1001 book, I ain't reading it! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💚💜 6d
CatLass007 My score was 11 and I think I should get some credit for at least TRYING to read Les Miz three different times. But I didn‘t check it. A couple of these I‘m pretty sure I read so I checked them. I read most of these with #NoPlaceLikeHolmes, #HashtagBrigade, #RandomClassics, and #WhatTheDickens, so thank you #LITSY! I also DNF several others. But, as @dabbe reminds me, #HailTheBail #BetterBooksAhead (edited) 5d
CatLass007 Three that I own and want to read are Anna Karenina, War and Peace, and Middlemarch. 5d
TheLudicReader 🤣 7. I still have the essay I wrote about Tess. Hated her. But I loved The Mayor of Casterbridge. 5d
catiewithac 27/100 but why so much Zola? It was a weird list. 5d
dabbe @CatLass007 YES! I love book surveys, but I don't always agree with them. If the book doesn't look good to me, I don't care who thinks I should read it! 🤣 And 🎯 for all of the books thanks to Litsy. I feel the same way. Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 5d
dabbe @CatLass007 If I had to put these in order of what I enjoyed, I'd say MIDDLEMARCH, ANNA KARENINA, then WAR AND PEACE. But don't listen to me! 🤣 5d
dabbe @TheLudicReader Well, here's something where we aren't in sync. TESS was my favorite read of 2023 (maybe that was a crappy reading year! 🤣). I want to read that essay when I get there! And I never read MAYOR, but I adored FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWS. That Hardy! #oy Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 5d
dabbe @catiewithac I guess Zola is Ze besZt. 🤣🤷‍♀️😍 I've never read anything by him! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 5d
tpixie @dabbe lol Les Mis as 3 books yes! (edited) 5d
tpixie @CatLass007 I‘m hoping to read Anna K next year. I missed out on @TheBookHippie buddy read this year 5d
CatLass007 @tpixie I didn‘t know there was a buddy read to miss. 5d
dabbe @tpixie 🎯🩵🎯 5d
tpixie @CatLass007 🩷 it‘s hard to keep up with all the buddy reads!! 4d
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick I think I'm coming in with the lowest score: 4! I'm confident enough to carry that torch. 🤣 I enjoyed Little Women & Dracula. Jekyll & Hyde and Alice's Adventures...not so much. I am not familiar with many of these. I should probably do a little research and bump myself up to a nice, round eight books read. 2d
dabbe @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Some scored “0“, so you're not the lowest! Even if you were, who cares? 🤣 I loved Jekyll & Hyde, but did NOT care of any of Alice's adventures! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💚💜💚 2d

Leftcoastzen I liked the fact that Maggie was direct about her sewing skills . She needed money , not just needlework projects for after dinner. 1w

Tagging Littens who played last week. 🤩

Librarybelle I got 16, but there are so many I‘m in the middle of but did not count because I did not finish them. Some I‘ve not heard of before and others are on my to read list. 😂 2w
BarkingMadRead 27 for me (I counted two that I‘m currently reading) 2w

BooksandCoffee4Me Oh, 22 only! Jane Austen saved me on this one. So many I‘d not heard of but look interesting! Remembered how much I loved Woman in White. Thanks for the tag @dabbe 💛 2w
CSeydel Just 11. Not bad for a STEM major, though, right? … right?? 2w
CSeydel Probably another 11 on my TBR. But most of them I hadn‘t heard of 😔 2w
Amor4Libros I got 1…Moby Dick! 🤣🤣 2w
dabbe @Librarybelle 🎯🩵🎯 Most from the 1700s, I'm like 😳! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2w
dabbe @BarkingMadRead Thank goodness for the #hashtagbrigade! We were able to count quite a few! (and I included MILL ON THE FLOSS since we will be finished soon). Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2w

SaunteringVaguelyDownwards Got 22, which is not too bad for a Lit major focusing on contemporary texts! 2w
dabbe @SaunteringVaguelyDownwards I think you'll kick some serious ass as we move forward in years! 🤩 Thanks for playing and sharing! 🩵📚🩵 2w
willaful Only 20 for me! Would be a bit higher if I had participated in *all* the #HashtagBrigade reads. ;-) Nothing I especially want to read but certainly might if the brigade does them. :-) 2w
peaKnit I know face slaps are not allowed but @dabbe…I got 4 😂 thank gosh for Jane Austen. 2w
shortsarahrose I got 12, which is honestly better than I expected (thanks mostly to actually liking 19th century American lit - Melville, Hawthorne, Poe). Sorrows of Young Werther should count twice cause I read it in German 😆 (surprised that with three Goethe texts on the list, Faust wasn‘t one of them! I guess maybe because it‘s technically a play?) 2w
Bklover 18- thanks to #hashtagbrigade and Jane Austen. There are quite a few I hadn‘t even heard of! 2w
TheSpineView Thanks for the tag! 🥰💛🏷 2w
Bookwormjillk Lucky 13. Grateful for#PemberLittens and #HashtagBrigade 🤣 2w

ChaoticMissAdventures Oh! It is too bad they couldn't find a few more 😂 thanks for the tag! 2w
Deblovestoread Thanks for the tag! I‘m going to get my book out before I do the survey as my memory was much better back then. 2w
Daisey @tpixie I went through and have read 39 (including currently reading Mill on the Floss). I‘ll have to watch for these the next few weeks. 2w
dabbe @willaful The #hashtagbrigade saved my sorry ass! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2w
dabbe @peaKnit I think the only one I read from the 1700s was GULLIVER'S TRAVELS. The others I was like 😳. 🤣 We'll get better as the list moves forward a few years!
Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵
2w
dabbe @shortsarahrose Yep, I think plays don't count, though they should. And you should count it twice! I read COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO in French, and I counted it twice. I needed all the help I could get! 🤣 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2w
dabbe @Bklover IKR? 1700s was like 😳!!! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2w

dabbe @TheLudicReader Reading with the #hashtagbrigade and loving Austen are the only two things that gave me a few more books. 1700s? #wtf 😳 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵📚🩵 2w
Amiable @dabbe It is the longest! I couldn‘t have gotten through it without the Litsy #Clarissa crew. 2w

tpixie @dabbe I like your math! 2w
AnnCrystal @dabbe 🤩👍🏼😍🎬💝. 2w
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Only 8 from these. I should check a few of these out. I don't remember much about A Modest Proposal other than a one line plot description, but I know I thought it was clever. Wild that we read it in school. I enjoy Edgar Allan Poe, so those two are probably the favorites. I've seen Emma on film and read a graphic novel. I'm counting that in my tally because I've decided that Austen novels just aren't for me. 2w
dabbe This was me looking through the ones from the 1700s: 😳😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩵💙🩵 2w
ImperfectCJ I'm late taking this quiz, but I got 21. I want to read Candide and The Sorrows of Young Werther. I've read everything by Austen so if there'd been a few more of those, I would have gotten a higher score. :-) 6d
dabbe @ImperfectCJ 🎯 re: Austen. I have WERTHER on my TBR, too! Thanks for playing and sharing. 💜💚💜 6d

mcctrish It happened faster than I thought #maggiespeaksthetruth I wonder if Tom will actually hear and understand Maggie‘s words later on? How he is inherently mean? I pity any girl he sets his eye on ( I don‘t think Tom is wrong though that #techytully being upset with Phil and Mags would be nothing compared to #snakywakey ‘s response or how compromised Mags would be if it was known she was meeting up with a boy) 2w
TheAromaofBooks @mcctrish - That's the thing, Tom wasn't 100% wrong; I think he was actually right about a lot of what he said, but wowsers he sure is one self-satisfied, obnoxious kid. Such an uncomplicated conscience - if I do it, it's right; if I don't do it, it's wrong 😂 Poor Maggie. I was glad that she at least put the vow into her own words! 2w

Ruthiella Tom could have been more compassionate, for sure. I did like how Maggie told him off-even though it will not soak in-he is so sure of his own correctness. 2w
Bookwormjillk Yeah I was liking Tom for a while but today I was team #ShutUpTom 2w
dabbe I couldn't help but also notice that this chapter ends with Maggie actually being a wee bit glad that the secret is out in the open and that she can't see Phil anymore. Maybe she loved him but not enough. And Tom, well, maybe a new hashtag: #tommytemper? #oy
2w
Leftcoastzen Tom is so overbearing, he feels he‘s the only thing holding it all together.Poor Maggie has so few privileges or prospects because of the situation.I think she loved talking with Phil & having a little secret.Like @dabbe I think she felt relieved. She doesn‘t care for Phil enough 2w
ElizaMarie @TheAromaofBooks yes!!!! Its a whole #IAmTheONlLYRightPerson in all scenarios thing with Tom. Ugh #TomTheSelfRighteous 2w

#divisive

I am so sorry for any offense I caused with my original image. I was in a dark place today, and this word really threw me off the proverbial cliff. I'll stay away from words that are triggers for me in the future.

AmyG That‘s quite the crowd. 😬 4w
Melismatic No disagreement here lol 4w
dabbe @AmyG It was a difficult one to do and look at. Sorry for yours and everyone else's eyes. 👀 4w

Deblovestoread Oof so many loud and wrong voices here. #Divisive 4w
Leftcoastzen You going for the nasty prize ? 😄 4w
dabbe @Leftcoastzen My sincerest apologies if it came across as nasty—that wasn‘t the intent. But it‘s hard to deny that these figures spark strong, polarized reactions, which felt in line with the prompt. No malice meant, just an observation on how divisiveness unfortunately plays out in public discourse. I should have stuck to posting a fictional book that had the word in it--keeping it light so that no one was offended. Thanks for the gentle poke. 🙂 4w
Hooked_on_books I didn‘t see your original post, but it‘s kinda sounding to me like you hit the nail on the head for divisive! 4w
dabbe @Hooked_on_books I actually posted certain people's faces. #oy 🤦🏼‍♀️ 4w
AmyG You caused me no offense, fyi. 4w
Bookwomble Oh, man, I missed it! I so want to be offended by your post! 😄❤️ 3w
TheLudicReader I didn‘t see the post but 🤷‍♀️…seems these days everyone is on the verge of getting their knickers in a knot over something. 😘😘 3w
Leftcoastzen I wasn‘t the least bit offended! 3w
Leftcoastzen THEY, offend me , not your post !😁 3w
dabbe @AmyG 💙🩵💙 3w
dabbe @Bookwomble I had pictures of 5 people: Trump, Musk, Kanye West, Ellen DeGeneres, and J.K. Rowling. Think any of them are divisive? 🧐🤣🧐 3w
dabbe @TheLudicReader Now THERE'S a hashtag for the ages: #knittedknockers or #knottedknickers 💙🩵💙 3w
dabbe @Leftcoastzen 😅🤩😍 3w
Bookwomble @dabbe 🤔💬 ... 🎯💯 3w
dabbe @Bookwomble 💙🩵💙 3w
TieDyeDude No one you mentioned show any empathy, remorse, or awareness of the impacts of their actions. You have no responsibility, IMO, to show them any tact or change anything to appease those who might have been upset with the post. You are not commenting on what they have done, and anyone who does not agree that they are divisive are not paying attention. ❤ 3w
dabbe @TieDyeDude I guess I'm so afraid of offending anyone these days, and I shouldn't be. You called it EXACTLY regarding those five. Thanks for making me see that and giving me more strength to post the truth, no matter how #divisive it may be. Wake up, people! ♥️ 3w

TheAromaofBooks The end of this chapter felt like some heavy foreshadowing that things aren't going to go well for Tom at Stelling's 😂 2mo

Ruthiella @TheAromaofBooks Agree! 😰 😅 2mo
mcctrish #fathandsriley I‘m with Maggie and thinking he‘s not worth listening to 2mo
Bklover @TheAromaofBooks I agree- I‘m feeling very sorry for Tom right now. 2mo
dabbe We haven't even met Tom yet and already we're feeling bad for him! And this is another one where it sucks to be a female in the 1800s! 😊 2mo
BarkingMadRead @dabbe I was so glad I read this in the hotel instead of bringing it into Disney, I was yelling at the book 🤣 2mo
ElizaMarie (I am not getting the tags; can you re-add me). Anyway, I love Maggie. Poor girl :( “A woman's no business wi' being so clever; it'll turn to trouble.“ - Also, I love how Tom is trying to talk himself into thinking he made the right choice to give them the recommendation. 2mo
dabbe @BarkingMadRead 🤣😍🤣 2mo
Clare-Dragonfly I really want Tom and Maggie to switch places like Alanna and her brother! She would be much better suited to scholarship! 2mo
Morr_Books I found myself being very suspicious of Mr. Riley. Maybe it is cuz Maggie didn't like him. 2mo
Leftcoastzen 🙄poor Maggie , poor Tom . I think this Mr. Riley isn‘t reliable, does he get a cut for finding students? I‘m with @Dabbe it sucks to be a girl in the 1800s 2mo
dabbe @Leftcoastzen Talk about a patriarchal world, right? #oy 2mo
Sparklemn Riley can tell himself that he‘s being magnanimous by recommending the clergy as tutor to Tom. But I think this is going to be an “you scratch my back and I‘ll scratch yours” scenario. 1mo
Sparklemn @Clare-Dragonfly I agree 👍 (edited) 1mo
Sparklemn @Morr_Books He was so dismissive of her reading. Blech. 1mo

#NoPlaceLikeHolmes @Cuilin

Lend me an 👂 or 👂👂, Sherlockians. 😱 Thoughts?

Librarybelle That was a bit gruesome! I think I exclaimed “oh my” when we learned the contents of the package. A revenge story, with a bit of violence. 2mo
dabbe @Librarybelle Most definitely! 😱 2mo
CogsOfEncouragement I enjoyed this one. Was entertained that SH didn't want any credit for it because it was too simple. I was amused at the end when Lestrade acted as though it was yes, very simple - then why did you call in SH! He sent the note that they couldn't get anything to work upon. In my opinion, they would have still been at a lose without SH. Lestrade, just say thank you. 2mo

kelli7990 I enjoyed this story. 2mo
dabbe @CogsOfEncouragement And Lestrade has no problem in taking ALL of the credit and acting as if he really didn't need Holmes at all. #oy! 2mo
