Bailedbailed

I am so sorry, Mercedes. But it‘s me, not you.

I‘ve been picking this up every night for almost two weeks, and I make it five or ten pages before getting bored.

Okay, so it‘s a little bit you, but I think I‘m going to have to file this as a #NotRightNow and try again later. 😅

AshleyHoss820 I think Not-Right-Now is a perfectly acceptable reading category! ☺️ Maybe next time! 9h

The Last Magician | Lisa Maxwell

#AllergictoChunksters inspired me to tackle The Last Magician again - I started it 2 years ago, and didn‘t make it very far. I was determined to get through it because, as you can see, I had slowly collected the rest of the series.

Ugh, I just can‘t do it y‘all. I reached page 100 this morning and called it quits. Turned it into a #ReadORDonate situation. My local library will be getting these to sell or loan out to other readers. #hailthebail

ChaoticMissAdventures Always so frustrating when we collect all the books and they end up not for us!! 21h
dabbe Time to #hailthatbail! #betterbooksahead 🙌🏻 17h
willaful @ChaoticMissAdventures On the bright side, we're supporting the industry we love.

Also, remembering George Carlin on leftovers. “When you put them away, you feel really intelligent: I'm saving food! And when you find them with hair growing all over and throw them away, you feel really intelligent: I'm saving my life!“

(Or in this case, your precious reading time!)

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage @ChaoticMissAdventures @willaful So true, but I feel good giving them to our local library. I‘ve donated to them before and they‘re always appreciative. 14h
ChaoticMissAdventures @Booksblanketsandahotbeverage just don't rebuy them from the library after you donate. Not saying I would ever do such a thing... 😂 14h
willaful @ChaoticMissAdventures I have definitely done such a thing! 13h
Booksblanketsandahotbeverage @ChaoticMissAdventures LOL exactly why I never go to their book sales 🤣 @willaful (edited) 13h
julieclair I think you made two intelligent decisions (like George Carlin!) First, you made a sincere effort (for the second time) to read the first book, second, you made the sensible decision to bail when you realized you just couldn‘t. Plus, you‘re helping your local library and clearing some space on your bookshelves. Win win win!! 🏆👍🙂 11h

A Christmas Bestiary | John Kenn Mortensen, Benni Bdker

Bailedbailed

This was unfortunately disappointing. Advertised as a handbook of international winter folklore, it was neither entertaining nor informative. A lot of the entries were very similar, which is a result of cultures borrowing from each other, but the blurbs were too short to provide much information about the differences. The same can be said for the illustrations, which felt too similar to be interesting. DNF at 75%

TieDyeDude They also made the same joke about Iceland being dangerous this time of year because of the number of myths from their culture way too many times. 2d

Here‘s my review.

#hailthebail

julesG Well, it is more RomCom than mystery. I read it for #LittensLoveRomance and quite enjoyed it, but went in with that in mind. Hope you're next read is better. 2d
BarkingMadRead Awwwww I‘m sorry you didn‘t like it! I went in for the Christmas vibe so I really enjoyed it 2d

Made quick work of my December #bookspin pick by…not finishing it. I knew this was headed for the DNF pile when I had to look up 10 words in the first few pages, and the unstable mother displayed a penchant for speaking in Shakespeare quotes. I have nothing against learning new words, but it felt very much like a book that was going to prioritize style over story, and I just don‘t have the energy for that kind of thing right now. Next!

TheAromaofBooks At least it's off the list!! 3d

I‘m so glad this was a kindle freebie because this is one of the worst books Iv read this year , it starts well but then disappears down the boring hole I found the world building tedious and at 259 odd pages still nothing has happened , I started to skim read it. I think romantasy books are either jam or marmite some are great some are truly awful and publishers are just desperate to publish more due to the current trend.not for me sorry

willaful It happens to every popular genre, unfortunately. As Theodore Sturgeon put it, 90% of everything is crap. 3d
Bookbuyingaddict @willaful that‘s really made me laugh 🤭 merry Christmas 🎄 😘x x. X 1d

And that's a bail! Some interesting stuff, but a lot of stuff so over my head that I was just reading words with no meaning.

But, yay, got a bingo! 😁

TheBookgeekFrau @Andrew65 Yes 😕 But I might go back to it; because what didn't go over my head was really quite interesting 2d

Sad to #dnf this, but I just don‘t like it. The characters are not very engaging and just horrible things are happening to the women/female characters which I just don‘t wish to read about anymore. I think I will just jump to the Fitz & the Fool series and pass on the Rainwilds - which is generally disliked. #hailthebail

Debut local author novel. I really tried. DNF around 40%. The story plot line itself is amazing - what if bugs, specifically the honey bees - were the guardians of the earth and they were just done with humans destroying the earth? The writing style is all over the place, seemingly written without edits.
