Bailedbailed

Nothing wrong with this one, it just wasn‘t working for me, and even though I‘ve listened to some of her music, I‘m not enough of a fan to stick with it until the end.

Also, currently trying to tame down my “Currently Reading” list so that I can start new books! 😅

SLOW DANCE. | RAINBOW. ROWELL

Bailedbailed

I‘d never read a Rainbow Rowell book, so when I saw this on the library shelf I figured I‘d give it a try. Almost 100 pages in and I‘m throwing in the towel. The main character is annoying, the dialogue is trite and stilted… and the worst offense? It‘s just so incredibly boring. 😖 Moving on.

Aims42 Oof, that‘s a lot of very valid reasons to bail 🫠 Onto better books! #Hailthebail 🚀 20h
Prairiegirl_reading I‘ve only read one Rainbow Rowell and I felt pretty much the same but I finished. 😕 (edited) 19h
freeatlast1137 I haven‘t read this one, but I can agree on her writing style. I have struggled to finish her books. 19h

Amiable @Prairiegirl_reading @freeatlast1137 I tried so hard to push through but got to a point where I thought, “why am I wasting valuable reading time on this?” I was surprised because I‘d heard good things about her books. This did not meet expectations at all. 😖 8h
Amiable @Aims42 My sentiments exactly! 🚀🌞 8h
Prairiegirl_reading @Amiable I am typically an unapologetic bailer but sometimes I have times where I think I should be better at finishing so that‘s probably why I finished. My comment was meant to be more of a “bad on me.” Too many good books!! 7h
Amiable @Prairiegirl_reading oh, I‘m with you! It took me a long time to get to a place where I could bail —I always felt obligated to finish what I‘d started. I still feel kind of guilty when I do. But the older you get the more you realize how little time you have left to read all the really good books out there —so you can‘t waste that time on the bad ones! (edited) 14m

5 DNF's -- Hail the Bail! (Actually, at least 6.)

I got somewhat derailed from my plan by the #TransRightsReadathon, so some extra books around the sides. Plan to read Making Money for my upcoming vacation though.

TheAromaofBooks Yay!! Fantastic month!! 3d
willaful @PuddleJumper #HailtheBail, right? 😁 I actually pretty much expect to DNF a lot of my #Roll100 choices because I picked them from my ancient TBR. 3d
PuddleJumper @willaful It gets them off your TBR! Mine is mostly books I bought years ago and just left to rot. I imagine I'll DNF most of them 3d
willaful @PuddleJumper Excellent, we're on the same page! 3d
julieclair Wow, what a month! You finished TWO chunksters?! 🏆 13h
julieclair @willaful @PuddleJumper Isn‘t it interesting how books that once sounded so interesting somehow lose their appeal as years go by? 13h
willaful @julieclair Four really! But I didn't count Crooked Kingdom because it was such a pageturner. 10h
willaful @julieclair @PuddleJumper yes, I could probably just dispense with the last 50% of my tbr and not even notice. It's sad too when there are genre classics that I once would have loved, but what can ya do... 10h

Bailedbailed

I started this because the author was born at the same time and place as one of my great great grandfathers, but their lives have moved in different directions and there‘s still a are still literally hundreds of pages of self-congratulatory florid prose to go. I‘m bailing so I can remove it from my profile!

There‘s nothing wrong with this book. I just don‘t have any enthusiasm for it. And why bother spending time on books I‘m not enthusiastic about?

I typically really like Donoghue, so this surprises me. And I‘m honestly not sure if this is me, the book, or the format. I found the audio reader hard to hear somehow, and that certainly didn‘t help. (I think the performance was fine and the mixing just needs to be adjusted.) I may try it again in print just because of the author.

squirrelbrain I started this but only read a tiny bit before all ‘the lists‘ came out 🤪. I wasn‘t particularly drawn to it yet. 6d
TheKidUpstairs I've been told this one starts really slow, but when it picks up, it's a good read. @squirrelbrain 5d
Hooked_on_books @squirrelbrain I made it about a third of the way and was so bored. But @TheKidUpstairs you give me hope for the print! 5d
squirrelbrain Thank you @TheKidUpstairs - I‘ll push on through once I get back to it. 5d

Bailing. I‘ve followed the author on insta for a while. She describes it as a “why choose/reverse harem inspired by ACOTAR with spice from book 1” & I was like “ok I ❤️ trash, let‘s go” but 50% in aside from the fae being divide into “Starlight, Forest courts, etc.” nothing is like ACOTAR, the worldbuilding isn‘t luscious, the characters aren‘t strong, the dialogue is terrible, &the spice finally arrived with the FMC witnessing a very unsexy orgy

I‘n doing a bit of cleaning up on my “Currently Reading” shelf. This has been on it for too long and I find myself not reaching for it anymore.
