#unpopularopinion I know a lot of people really enjoyed this book, but it's just not doing it for me. Maybe it's because I've just listened to two mysteries, I'm burnt out on solving murders, or maybe Lafferty isn't an author for me. I also bailed on The Shambling Guide to New York City. I think it's time for something lighter.
I had to bail after 50 pgs. I chose it because It was apocalyptic and set in California, two of my favorite genres. I looked at reviews before I quit and it didn't look like it was ever going to go anywhere.
But this particular cover is beautiful.

Dacian empath, Malina, is captured in the aftermath of battle where she failed to protect her Celtic adopted family and taken as a slave by the Roman general and dragon shifter, Julianus.
The combination of relationship dynamic and power imbalance between Malina and Julianus with the ancient Roman inspired system of slavery, was too off-putting for me, and I just couldn't get past it. It was also a darker romance than I had expected.

57 which includes a few DNFs. I once carried around an old and old-smelling paperback of Rushdie‘s Midnight Children and finally got rid of it. #someday
I had Pratchett‘s The Color of Magic out from the library but it was returned before I read it. #sigh
Unfortunately bailing on this one for now. I might try the ebook once my hoopla borrows reset for May, but I've been slogging through this audiobook. I'm a third of the way and feel like barely anything has happened. Has anyone else read this one? Does the pace pick up at all?
I'm bummed because it was doing some cool things inverting the Darcy/Elizabeth characters that I was excited to see explored

Stopped at 10%. Usually I love Scalzi, but i could not get into this story. Normally I fly through his pages, but I was creeping along with this one. Like reading just a few pages each sitting.
I wasn‘t looking forward to continuing, and even worse, I started dreading picking up my Kobo. That‘s when I knew to #DNF. Maybe I‘ll try again someday.
This is a very steamy book. It also a plot that I have read multiple times before, and the characters are not interesting enough for me to care. I made it 39% and I‘m done. #hailthebail
